5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent pocket companion
High yield for all aspects of ICU life... as well as the medicine wards. It is very well written, with topics covered surprisingly well for its size. I basically ended up carrying this, its cousin text, the pharmacopoeia, The Sanford Guide to Antimicrobial Therapy, and The Consult Manual of Internal Medicine in my pockets. Thats all you need.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tarascon Internal Medicine & Critical Care Pocketbook,
Excellent as are all prior editions.Would love to see larger lab-coat-pocket version made.

4-0 out of 5 stars price
The information in the book is very good, very useful indeed, and very compact. But the book is extremely small for the price.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just what I needed!
At last a text with up to date radiological anatomy of the head and neck. We all know that this is potentially the most challenging area to interpret and none of the standard texts to date are equal to demonstrating the level of exquisite detail obtained by modern imaging techniques. The radiological images and the illustrative drawings are excellent and the organization correlates well with the problems likely to be found in radiological practice. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Terrible binding
The binding of the thick and heavy book is terrible. Many pages just fell apart about one month or so after I bought it. Also, I found there are some problems with its organization. For example, it is kind of confusing to describe both benzodiazepines and barbiturates together.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not Awful, Not Great
There are many good things to say about this text. It is through, has great cross-references, and is relatively cheap. Sadly, however, that is pretty much where the positive ends and the negative begins.
1-0 out of 5 stars Awful
This text is required at my medical school. The text is dense and unapproachable, but that isn't my main complaint-the organization is TERRIBLE. One drug can be covered in multiple different chapters, but none of the chapters really have a great description! For example, B blockers are covered under "Autonomic Drugs", "Anti-Hypertensive Agents", and "Heart Failure Drugs"... just for starters! Anywhere you can use a B blocker, there's a separate discussion. Just give me ONE chapter on B blockers that actually talks about all of their uses!

1-0 out of 5 stars Is This a Book?
Is this a book to help out women who suffer from being misinformed about menopause or an advertisement for progesterone cream?Didn't help me at all, if anyone wants to buy it, it's yours but I don't recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Eye-Opener Sans The Wool
Back-to-back, I've read this book and the other one by Dr. John Lee, "What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Pre Menopause: Balance Your Hormones And Your Life From Thirty To Fifty."Although the one just mentioned is more pertinent to my age group, and both books cover much of the same ground, I chose to review this book because it seems to be more in-depth.Both books, however, are laden with valuable information for women of any age.

I have been in the field since the 70's and find this reference to be one of the best. I always find what I want quickly and also use it for a teaching guide with students doing their externships with me. Anna Wynott B.S., R.D.C.S.

Listed in alpphabetical order, they are easily accessed. The last section covers all formulas and methods, with calculations.5-0 out of 5 stars The best echo reference
Great tables of normal/abnormal values and diagnostic criteria (more complete than Otto and Mayo manual).Especially useful for practical echo reporting. The book does assume a basic working knowledge of echocardiography: beginner should use this book in conjunction with the Otto or Mayo text. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A must-have!
This little guide may seem confusing at first glance, but it is quite helpful once you figure out how to use it!You'll still need a prescribing reference for dosages, etc. but this gives you a place to start.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must on the wards
Always a great help for any medical student or resident, especially in primary care. If you're going to be culturing something, you need to know what to treat empirically with until the C&S comes back, and that's where Sanford's is a great help. It's not quite an ID consult, but it works until they show up.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great daily reference--in clinic and hospital
Great quick pocket reference, use it daily for both out-pt and in-pt infectious disease treatment.Details first line therapy (and includes pediatric doses), and gives concise clinical criteria for back-up choices (eg. treatment failures, associated comorbidities, drug allergic patients).

1-0 out of 5 stars The Neuroscience of Psychotherapy
I have not received this book. Please advise when it will arrive.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Review and Exploration
Cozolino's text presents a very complicated topic in an extremely accessible manner, owing to a straightforward writing style and a penchant for perfectly applicable example case studies. He breaks down the functioning of the brain into "digestible" chunks and builds throughout the text on earlier learning. If you work in the field of counseling or psychotherapy, you simply cannot go wrong by reading this book and supplementing your knowledge of neuroscience-psychotherapy connection.

5-0 out of 5 stars An outstanding piece of synthesis.Buy it.
This book is simply a masterpiece in presenting neuroscience relevant to the both researchers in braod areas of psychological science and therapists. The presentation of brain specific information is assured, clear and reasonably well referenced. The book always connects brain regions with manifested behaviours and psychological symptoms. There is so much clarity in the text that it really deserves a very wide audience way beyond what its title suggests. The book embraces aspects of affective and evolutionary neuroscience, ties them to human consciousness development and identifies specific brain developments that cause us to be who we are.The piece of the development of the parietal lobes is one of the best I have ever read. The author has a gift for communication, and this is so rare in neuroscience books that the stands proud of the rest. The tripartite brian, psychology and psycotherapeutic connections are presented with out propagandising one at the expense of the other. There is a degree of good quality speculation in the book from time to time which could set its own research agenda.I will conclude by saying that do give a longer review would runs the risk of spoiling the lively and surprising erudition of the author.Definitely a book worth reading, worth keeping and certainly if you loan it out, you may have trouble getting it back. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Maybe it's just me
I really didn't like this book, and I'm not sure if it is just the topic that I struggled with or if it was the text.I had a tough time reading the book...I didn't like the blank lines to fill in the answers, it seemed distracting to me trying to learn the information and having to stop and fill in the blank as I go along.
5-0 out of 5 stars Simple, simple, and simple!
I have to say that this is the best college text book I have ever used. Clear, concise explanations of semi-complicated topics. I could not ask any more out of a book, except maybe lowering the price.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Supplement for Internal Med
Case Files is well made and good at what it covers. The format is very readable, giving you a scenario and making you think of a diagnosis and plan. It's much better than skimming a heavy albeit more complete text. That said, while 60 case scenarios are a lot, it can't hit everything, and it's important to have a wide base of knowledge for the Internal Med Clerkship.I read this after reading First Aid for Internal Med a few times, and while I picked up a couple of things that I had little clue about, it mainly reinforced what was in that book.I would recommend Case Files for people who 1) like the scenario format and can't stand outlines/bullets/texts2) are close to taking the shelf exam and want an indication as to how questions might be constructed.MKSAP, however, is probably the closest to the exam you can get.Once again, this is a great supplement, but I would not use this as a primary / singular source.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic study aid
I used this book and did quite well on the shelf exam.I recommend it to anyone who wants to do well on an internal medicine test. It's very complete and the cases allow you to integrate a lot of knowledge in one scenario.

5-0 out of 5 stars Intended for Review
These flash cards are great. They are in full color (not all anatomy flash cards are created alike!) and include basic information about the body (ie the origin and insertion of muscles along with their importance).Remember, flash cards are meant for review, not for primary studying. You can turn these cards into a full study tool simply by adding information from Moore or any other anatomy text.We all want to cut corners, but using these cards alone won't do it (but they'll get you pretty close).I couldn't live without them.Couple them with Moore's Essential Anatomy and you have the perfect cocktail for success in Gross.

4-0 out of 5 stars Could be better.
The flashcards are nice to take anywhere. The numbers are lined to different parts of the region one is studying. Example the skull, if you are studying lateral view of the skull a number would highlight the temporal bone but you will have four lines pointing to four different parts of the temporal bone, if you needed more help to which part of the temporal bone was the zygomatic process it would be hard to find out which of those four lines pointed to it. The answers are next to the temporal bone in parenthesis but it does not go in to much detail to which line represents what. This could be better.

3-0 out of 5 stars A good starting point
I just finished my first year in medical school, and I thought these cards were a good starting point for studying.Often it's hard to motivate yourself to learn all the mundane details required in gross anatomy, and these flash cards were great to carry around on the bus and review during my commute.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Let's learn all the facts.
I don't know, myself, exactly what I think of craniosacral therapy. But I've made a point of searching out the most sceptical material I could find on the subject, and I have read the ENTIRE BCC meta-study on it that was released a few years ago, not just Stephen Barett's opinions on it (which is all that some commenters have read, I think!) This "study of studies" was basically for the purposes of trying to decide if craniosacral therapy should be covered by third-party payers, and it reviewed all studies to date. It basically came up with three conclusions:
5-0 out of 5 stars Controversial but not quite a quack science
Au contraire Mr. Deveno, everyone knows the cranial rhythmic impulse, like the pulse rate and blood pressure, varies from time to time and from person to person and from measurer to measurer. But this is an aside. A recent article in the respected Journal of Pediatrics, showed that osteopathic manipulation (which included CST) helped in cases of otitis media (i.e. ear infections). What makes CST controversial is the theory that the cranial sutures are being moved and that cerebrospinal fluid motion is being influenced. This is the theory behind CST. For all we know the working mechanism of CST could be completely different. Upledger's book is well written and gives practical advice on the treatment of patients, as well as the current working theory behind CST. He includes not only his variation of the vault maneuvers, but also the classical vault maneuvers developed by Sutherland.By the way it should be noted that Upledger taught CST at MSU-College of Osteopathic Medicine which is consistently ranked as a top 50 medical school by US News and World Report.

1-0 out of 5 stars Why craniosacral therapy is a quack science ...
In various studies of craniosacral therapy, when multiple practioners are asked to determine the craniosacral pulse rate of a common set of patients they quite consistently fail to agree on rates. But this is an aside, the fact of the matter is that bones of the skull really are fused after a certain age of childhood. Craniosacral therapy has been objectively studied ... and found wanting. This is the primary reason why most respectable osteopathic teaching schools have decided to leave craniosacral therapy off the curriculum. ... Read more

A textbook providing a simple and wide view of basic vascular ultrasonography

5-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Text and Reference
This new 5th edition is an improvement on an already excellent text on vascular sonography. Some tests are heavy on very detailed, hard-to-grasp, very long-winded theory that seem to be aimed at physicists. Still others are intentionally simplistic in an attempt to convey the basic issues, while unfortunately,
