5-0 out of 5 stars The best ECG resource for med students
This book is an absolute gem. It's corny in places and has a few minor errors (autonomic physiology section for example), but it breaks down the nuts and bolts of ECG like no other resource. Some consider the book to be too basic; however, for a medical student's purpose, I disagree. I was called on on several occasions in internal medicine morning report and conferences to read ECGs of patients being discussed. I used the systematic method proposed by Dubin, and was commended by Staff on each occasion. The book breaks interpretation down and gives an algorithm: rate, rhythm, axis, intervals and hypertrophy and ischemia/damage. It's easy to learn because the book is very repititious. In fact, the repititious nature of the text may be irritating if you already have a good handle of ECG. Unlike other textbooks, once you've meticulously worked through this one, the knowledge gained is very easy to retain. I attribute this to the redundant nature of the book, i.e. while working through, you're contantly reminded of pertinent concepts previously presented in the text. This is definitely a five star resource for med students.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perhaps the best
I purchased almost every book on the market pertaining to ECG's and this is perhaps the best you will find? It has great illustrations and explains heart function/anatomy very well. Covers every technical aspect to the subject of cardiology. However, many of the ECG strips could have been illustrated a lot bigger and more clearer. Some of the ECG strips are fuzzy!

5-0 out of 5 stars Unless your a cardiologist, stick with this book.
This is truly an excellent book on an important subject.I read this book once as a medical student and once again as an intern.I cannot imagine another book being better at teaching EKG interpretation.Maybe there are some other good onces out there, but you cannot go wrong here. This was quite helpful from a residents perspective when taking care of medicine patients. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Cardiology Book Review by Dr. James Thogtam
DR. Chizner's book is the most well founded and delightful book to read. As a former clinical professor in nursing, this book is the only one nurses will need. Do not waste your money on other books, this one is the best. All nurses who practice cardiology on any level, should buy this book. It is a keeper for life!
5-0 out of 5 stars review of cardiology
The book is just FANTASTIC. The reproduction of heart sounds is something absolutely necessary for the physician, but you cannot find real patients to hear all of these sounds. The addition of the CD, with this and other very important features is just too impressive to describe.

5-0 out of 5 stars ACLS Study Guide 3rd ED
I love this book! The author sounds exactly like me...scared to death to take an ACLS course.I have just started using this book but so far it has helped to calm my fears/anxiety. I also have the American Heart Association book, but this one explains things very basically for those of us not in critical care and/or have no critical care experience. It gets to the point in an understandable way.I would recommend it to anyone!

5-0 out of 5 stars A must have for the Cardiac Sonographer
I have been in the field since the 70's and find this reference to be one of the best. I always find what I want quickly and also use it for a teaching guide with students doing their externships with me. Anna Wynott B.S., R.D.C.S.

This book, is very detailed but very user-friendly.It covers basic cardiac anomilies to the more detailed,(not so common)anomolies as well as signs and symptoms. This book covers adult as well as some pediatrics. Listed in alpphabetical order, they are easily accessed. The last section covers all formulas and methods, with calculations.5-0 out of 5 stars The best echo reference
Great tables of normal/abnormal values and diagnostic criteria (more complete than Otto and Mayo manual).Especially useful for practical echo reporting. The book does assume a basic working knowledge of echocardiography: beginner should use this book in conjunction with the Otto or Mayo text. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Maybe it's just me
I really didn't like this book, and I'm not sure if it is just the topic that I struggled with or if it was the text.I had a tough time reading the book...I didn't like the blank lines to fill in the answers, it seemed distracting to me trying to learn the information and having to stop and fill in the blank as I go along.
5-0 out of 5 stars Simple, simple, and simple!
I have to say that this is the best college text book I have ever used. Clear, concise explanations of semi-complicated topics. I could not ask any more out of a book, except maybe lowering the price.

5-0 out of 5 stars How "Basic Arrhythmias" helped me in paramedic school.
I was an basic and intermediate EMT for years.Intimidated by learninghow to interpret and analyze EKG's, it was, by far, one of the mostfrustrating topic for me in paramedic class. My instructor recommended the"Basic Arrhythmias" book by Gail Walraven and in no time at allinterpreting and analyzing EKG's became easy and soon after I was doing itlike a second nature.Read more

A textbook providing a simple and wide view of basic vascular ultrasonography

5-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Text and Reference
This new 5th edition is an improvement on an already excellent text on vascular sonography. Some tests are heavy on very detailed, hard-to-grasp, very long-winded theory that seem to be aimed at physicists. Still others are intentionally simplistic in an attempt to convey the basic issues, while unfortunately,

5-0 out of 5 stars not as boring as it looks

5-0 out of 5 stars echocardiography at its finest
As a student echocardiographer learning the pathology of cardiovascular diseases, I have both this edition and one earlier. This is well worth the upgrade in price. It has 1 second loops of most of the many possible pathologies found in echocardiographic studies. Though I have looked at the clips several times, installation was initially a short-lived problem. This new edition is a complete overhaul as described by Feigenbaum. He admits that he is not the sole author but Armstrong and Ryan are the primarys on this edition. This book's attention to clinical detail makes it a must in my book when considering Echo books. Having a resource to give you a moving example of cardio pathology can only enhance one's understanding.

5-0 out of 5 stars superb
excellent clinically oriented, very well written and organized text book, supplemented with great clips on DVD. I found it very useful for exam preparation and in clinical practice

4-0 out of 5 stars Great echo book but...
When I was a young man, I read the last edition of this book and I fell in love with Cardiology.Every word in the last edition was memorized, just like a love letter. Now I am an old man, and I was delighted to see a new edition of this book finally published.I spent one weekend digesting every word. While I found the book highly delightful to read,I am finding factual errors in the book, to my disappointment. For example, in chapter 6, page 172, figure 6.51, deceleration time of mitral inflow was drawn incorrectly (it should start from the peak of the E wave, not from the beginning of the E).Then in chapter 16, page 513, the book stated that in dobutamine echo, a hypokinetic area that exhibits "sustained improvement" rather than "bipashic response" should be read as non-viable.But in echo literature (Heart. 2001 Dec;86(6):672-8 and Am J Cardiol. 1999 Jul 15;84(2):130-4), "sustained improvement" is considered viable.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Stellar Work
The wave of cardiac CT is increasingly gaining momentum in the field of cardiology. It has the potential to revolutionize the traditional practice of cardiology particularly for the management of subclinical and clinical coronary artery disease patients. Cardiovascular professionals who do not wish to fall behind the curve are rushing to equip themseleves with the knowledge and the technology. In this book, Dr Budoff and colleagues most of whom I know from their outstanding research, give hands to the early adopters. The book provides an excellent state-of-the-art review on the subject. It also reviews related applications of cardiovascular MRI and nuclear imaging. I have found the CD companion of the book quite handy.

Editorial Review

Mehmet Oz is a Renaissance man of cardiac care, combining yoga, aromatherapy, hypnosis, energy healing, music therapy, acupuncture, and visual imagery into his surgery practice at the Complementary Care Unit of New York City's Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center. He's adamant that the relationship between traditional and alternative medicine should be symbiotic, not mutually exclusive. His patients are proof of this: when treated holistically, not as just "another transplant patient" with a plaque-addled heart, they perceive less pain during surgery and recuperation, are less likely to suffer depression, and heal more quickly.Read more

Dr. Oz, the heart wizard, is of Turkish descent and attempts to combine East and West traditions of healing during post-surgery.He is a heart surgeon located in New York City.First of all,he is searching for the elusive one universal healing endeavor. Some things we all need are recommended such as Love is a major healing force, as is religious faith in one God.He is of the opinion that modern medicine is not perfect.Nothing is perfect, not even beauty, he says.

5-0 out of 5 stars Useful reference
This is an excellent concise introduction to cardiac catheterization. This book is now in its 4rth edition published in 2003 and includes a wealth of material on the basics of this field.650 pages encompass 10 chapters on topics such as arterial and venous acess, hemodynamic data, angiographic data, EP studies and ablation, research techniques, special techniques, high-risk cardiac catheterization, and interventional techniques. The book includes specific, how-to information. However, this short text is not intended to fully teach such advanced techniques as catheter ablation or interventional cardiology. Very useful tables and clear diagrams are included (496 illustrations).

4-0 out of 5 stars Better than others
Unfortunately, there is a dearth of "cardiology-review books", especially when it comes to ABIM Cardiology Boards preparation. There is NOT a single review book written keeping in mind that it has be used ONLY for ABIM cardiology boards. This book at least tries to achieve this goal, but does a mediocre job.
