5-0 out of 5 stars like it
I got the book for my ICU rotation, its a easy read. Goes over the imp stuff and the basics too. Liked it a lot.

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent book overall
Too little details in places (mechanical ventilation) but too wordy in others.Excellent cardiopulmonary phys review, good breadth of subjects.Kinda big book but fast reading.

5-0 out of 5 stars My favorite
This book is rare because it is original. It welcomes you to the real world of critical care as seen by one expert physician. It was probably never intended for quick reference or board prep. The relatively large print and generous spacing make the book bigger but more pleasant to read. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent pocket companion
High yield for all aspects of ICU life... as well as the medicine wards. It is very well written, with topics covered surprisingly well for its size. I basically ended up carrying this, its cousin text, the pharmacopoeia, The Sanford Guide to Antimicrobial Therapy, and The Consult Manual of Internal Medicine in my pockets. Thats all you need.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tarascon Internal Medicine & Critical Care Pocketbook,
Excellent as are all prior editions.Would love to see larger lab-coat-pocket version made.

4-0 out of 5 stars price
The information in the book is very good, very useful indeed, and very compact. But the book is extremely small for the price.

5-0 out of 5 stars Principles of Critical Care-book
I know this book from my residency years, when I rotate in ICU,
5-0 out of 5 stars A must!!
This text is clearly one of the best in its field. It is well organized and very thorough. The organization and attention to detail make it a great referrence source and an easy read. It should be in anyone's library that takes of critically ill patients. I would highly recommend it for fellows in critical care medicine. The "Pretest" question and answer study guide that is a companion to this text is also excellent and a great tool for the critical care boards. I am anxiously awaiting the next edition.

5-0 out of 5 stars Principles of Critical Care
This is an excellent review of the most common problems found in the clinical practice of Critical Care. It helps with the initial assessment of the patient and formulates a systematic approach to the differentialdiagnosis and therapeutic plan. The bibliography is updated and it hasdetailed illustrations and diagrams. Certainly, recommended as referencefor those persons involved in the management of Critical Care patients. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars You will need!
I spent a lot of money in shipping cost's finding a good ECG book! Nothing impressive about this book, which is why I sent it back. Don't be fooled by the title! You will to find another book if you want to understand ECG's.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Review Book
My initial exposure to EKGs was via Dubin. That was a great starter. But a couple of months later, I had to relearn everything again and this book really helped. Each chapter is divided into subheadings. Each subheading gives you the big picture. Then the whole chapter concludes with a recap: an EKG for each subheading. It was great.I checked it out from my library and did not buy it (if youcan, I suggest you buy it).Happy learning!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best EKG Book Around!
I'm a medical student, and this is the best EKG book I've found for learing EKGs relevant for students.Probably all you need for med school exams are heart blocks and MIs, but this book has all the major stuff, bundle branch/fasicular/hemi -blocks, SVTs, etc.The best part about this book is that its NOT just pattern recognition like other EKG books. It tells you why a rhythm is narrow vs wide, what's actually going on in that re-entrant rhythm, why that block looks the way it does by relating it to what's actually going on with the current, which makes you remember it better.Basically, if you just want to memorize some shapes, go use Dubin. But if you want to understand why EKGs make the patterns they do for various pathologies, then you MUST buy this book. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars High Acuity Nursing
This book has been very helpful to our new nurses who seem overwhelmed when they first get out of school.Self-paced modules help them incoorporate their knowledge with the types of patients they take care of.I have used this book for seasoned nurses too. They like the validation they get from being able to pre- and post-test.
1-0 out of 5 stars this book is horrible
I am a senior nursing student and I am appalled at this book. Our instructor loves it and has been using it. I brought to her attention that in the pediatric module, some of the pretest answers are WRONG!!! I know they are wrong- or I would not be a senior nursing student!!!! Out of all the majors and careers and textbooks that need to give accurate information- ACUTE CARE NURSING IS THE ONE!!!!! This is sooo extremely important! I am very disappointed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent training resource for new graduates
Filled with self paced modules applicable to the critical care, emergency room, and medical-surical setting, High Acuity Nursing is an excellent clinical resource to supplement orientation & training programs of new graduate nurses.Organized by body system, it integrates A&P, clinical nursing applications, and critical thinking all in one.I used it with my new graduates when orienting them to the IMCU, ED, and med-surg units. They found the information helpful in tying in the clinical content they were learning during orientation and the practical application of it.They rated the self learning modules highly in the evaluations.Internal transfers into the ICU have also found it to be helpful when orienting to that new setting. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A Must fot the Oral Boards
You've passed the written boards - Congratulations! Now that you're sober again it's time to start thinking about the orals and this puppy is a big part of the solution. It's set up in an oral board question and answer style.Simply read the question -without looking at their answer- and then answer it out loud like you would if the examiner were sitting there in front of you. I know it's weird but it really does help to also practice in front of a mirror to eliminate all of the bizarre facial tics you never knew you had.Now look at the answer. Were you right or even close?Good! Keep going, you'll hone your style to a razor's edge. This technique, along with some good mock oral practice with those attendings who know how to give them, will have you spraying champagne over your friends and family like you've won the Grand Prix of Monaco the night after!

4-0 out of 5 stars an overly comprehensive review
I do agree that this textbook is a very well-done, well written book with a lot of value for anesthesiologists. However, as a tool for oral board study it is actually a bit too comprehensive and inclusive. Take my word for it, during your oral board exam you are not going to be asked about histologic changes in the bronchial mucosa of the asthmatic or the synthetic pathway of catecholamines. The person studying for the oral anesthesiology board doesn't have time to waste learning material that he or she doesn't need to know. I recommend instead Clinical Cases in Anesthesia by Reed. Same format, much more focused on the material that the anesthesiologist must know for the oral exam.

3-0 out of 5 stars Okay, but kind of cumbersome
First of all, I must say that this is an excellent book to get detailed information when you are in a bind in the OR.But the problem I have with this book is that it is sort of in a no-man's-land of materials. If I need the nitty-gritty on a subject, I go to Barash or Miller, but in the OR, I only need to get to the stuff I seem to have forgotten, so I go to Ezekiel. Mass General falls somewhere between too much information for the OR, and not enough information for home use.I've also found it rather difficult at times to find things with the small, cramped print. (Not to mention that it doesn't fit as easily as Ezekiel in the back pocket of your scrubs)
4-0 out of 5 stars Good for the O.R.
This book seems to be the icon for O.R. pocket references in Anesthesiology.5-0 out of 5 stars Anesthesia from A to Z
"Clinical Anesthesia Procedures of the Massuchussets General Hospital" offers concise yet thorough coverage on all aspects of anesthesia. From preoperative visit to basic airway management, from fluid requirements of the surgical patient to specific considerations on cardiac, respiratory and liver diseases, this book has it all in an easily accesible way, especially when your above the "blood-brain barrier".I would especially recomend the chapter on resuscitation of trauma and burns victims, because of the thorough coverage of the subject, better than in many surgical textbooks I have read. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Excellent in places
I tend to read a lot of neuropsychiatry books for work and this is the latest from Jeff Cummings - an author who seems to do little wrong! The production value on this book is very high - quite a few color illustrations are used. The text is, in general, sensible and useful but there are some minor inaccuracies and some topics not covered. In places the depth is not really adequate and it may not offer quite the same coverage as competing volumes. Overall, excellent in places, but some omissions - therefore I would give it ok(3stars). I am sure the next edition, will offer more. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Theoretical Aspect on Critical Care
Since this is the only critical care text book I've used, I have no real basis of comparison. I'll try to be as objective as possible.
3-0 out of 5 stars Critical Care NURSING: A Holistic Approach - for NURSES only.
I am required to use this book as part of a Critical Care Emergency Medical Transport Paramedic class (CCEMTP). This book contains a great deal of very easy to interpret information, but it is not sufficient for EMS personnel. While I've enjoyed reading this book in general and I would continue to read this book to better my personal knowledge level, I would not use it for future educational purposes unless I was a nurse seeking to increase my training level. I do wish that the authors would get together and come up with a Critical Care Paramedic book to use for EMS training; their writing style is easy and comprehensive and there is no randomness to their book - they get to the point and give you the information you need.
