Intended for Review
These flash cards are great.They are in full color (not all anatomy flash cards are created alike!) and include basic information about the body (ie the origin and insertion of muscles along with their importance).Remember, flash cards are meant for review, not for primary studying.You can turn these cards into a full study tool simply by adding information from Moore or any other anatomy text.We all want to cut corners, but using these cards alone won't do it (but they'll get you pretty close).I couldn't live without them.Couple them with Moore's Essential Anatomy and you have the perfect cocktail for success in Gross.

Could be better.
The flashcards are nice to take anywhere. The numbers are lined to different parts of the region one is studying. Example the skull, if you are studying lateral view of the skull a number would highlight the temporal bone but you will have four lines pointing to four different parts of the temporal bone, if you needed more help to which part of the temporal bone was the zygomatic process it would be hard to find out which of those four lines pointed to it. The answers are next to the temporal bone in parenthesis but it does not go in to much detail to which line represents what. This could be better.

A good starting point
I just finished my first year in medical school, and I thought these cards were a good starting point for studying.Often it's hard to motivate yourself to learn all the mundane details required in gross anatomy, and these flash cards were great to carry around on the bus and review during my commute.Read more

The best education in Type 2 Diabetes
When I need to learn about a topic I go to the library. My research leads me to read many books on the subject. There are usually some duds or outdated books. This book is a standout! The very best of the dozen or so books I have read on Diabetes. I learned more in this book than all the other combined. The author writes from experience and has many ideas on ways to get the best blood sugar control. The other books can stay on the shelf. This is one that I need to buy and own so I can refer back to it again and again. I recommend that anyone with Type 2 diabetes to read this book if you are serious about getting better blood sugar control! Her approach is sypathetic too. It's good to get this information from someone who knows from the inside what you are thinking and feeling. Two chapters standout in my mind. One is about burnout; you have to face diabetes everyday, it doesn't go on vacation. The other is about going to social events and having trouble finding something acceptable to eat. I would think this would be a very good book for diabetes counslors to give to their new patients when first learning of diagnosis of diabetes.
Misses the boat on Depression
I was incredibly impressed with this bookuntil I got to the bit on depression.As one of my clients said, this woman has never been depressed. There are books dating back to the 30s on how eating sugar significantly affects mood in some people. Many clients seem to be able to guess their own blood sugar ratings based on their depressed mood and lack of motivation. I was surprised that Mendosa's wonderful website doesn't list the word depression.People who have significant depression associated with variations in blood sugar are severly underserved by Becker's book. While there are many studies that claim you are at no greater risk for diabetes after a diagnosis (which is probably true) it seems to me that what actually occurs is that people are more likely to experience significant clinical depression related to diabetes BEFORE it is diagnosed.Then when blood sugar is controlled they actually have less depression. How unusual and fortunate for Becker and Mendosa that they are so blessed to be depression free. I hope it doesn't make people who do have depression associated with diabetes and variations in blood sugar feel crazy.

An Absolute Breakthrough
At the risk of sounding overly dramatic, I will simply say that as a type I diabetic the advice in this book has improved my condition immeasurably. After 8 months of following its low carbohydrate guidelines my A1C has dropped from 8.7 to an all-time low of 6.4 and my daily insulin dosage has decreased by almost 40% (both long-acting and fast-acting). I finally feel a measure of control over the disease and am slowly getting some respite from the constant frustration that unpredictable fluctuations in blood glucose measurements inevitably induce. I must add that I have not even been following the program very rigorously and have chosen to pass on some of its more drastic aspects (to me). I do admit that losing most of my carb-heavy comfort foods was difficult at first (and occasionally still is) but the payoff is really so staggering that I believe every diabetic should be exposed to this information as part of their healthcare education and shouldn't have to buy a book in order to obtain it.
Yes and No; Better for Type 2s
Caveat Emptor. Removing all carbs from your diet to control blood sugar is like never leaving the house if you suffer from allergies. Following Dr. Bernstein's advice religiously without being in constant consultation with your personal MD is potentially very dangerous. Restricting ALL carbs the way he advises may help type 2 people who are overweight. Not for Type 1s who need carbs as much as we need insulin shots. I tried this type of diet and looked like a skeleton within a month. In a way us Type 1s have it easier, just more track marks, but removing all carbs and substituting them for these mysterious G/G crackers he praises can and will make you lose weight, give you more lows and create more problems. It may work for some, is probably very helpful for overweight type 2s, and a lot of the advice he does give is outstanding but please don't take it as the final word.

The Best Book on Diabetes That I have Ever Read
If you have diabetes, if you live with a diabetic, read this book.It's wonderfully clear in its explanations and arguments.Supplement it perhaps with the general writings of Dr. Andrew Weil on various foods, vitamins,and food preparation,but take a look at what Dr. Bernstein is saying about protein and carbs.This is a field where there is much disagreement, but I find this book to be convincing and extremely helpful.The best book on diabetes I've ever read. ... Excellent reference!
This text offers a straight-forward reference to assist in the management of gyn problems I commonly encounter as a Family Doctor.It goes into great detail about anatomy and physiology of gynecologic problems yet is well-organized for use as a "quick reference".For example, it took less than a minute to find the section on hirsuitism to refresh my memory as to what the initial work-up should consist of.

A must have for anyone involved in basic infertility
This is an incredible book.Speroff is still the king when it comes to infertility.In our OB/Gyn setting we refer to it many times in our treatment of basic infertiltiy and have had great success following the guidelines given by Speroff.It should be on the bookshelf of anyone who treats basic infertility!!

Simply the best!
This book is an eye opener. It has saved us from becoming victims of misdiagnosed thyroid disorders.I bought three books: one for myself, one for my son's doctor and one for my mother-in-law. The best book about Endocrinology
You don`t need that I recomend this book because it is the classic text in endocrinology and related books. I am sure you will Enjoy this masterpiece fron the first page. If you dont want to read complety, it is a revision book in the clinic, house or office. Buy it and you rememberme always.

Needs a more clear diet section, this was not worth buying
I have read on Hypothyroid and this is not the book I was looking for, as to help me to speed up my metabolism.I would like to find a book that just is plain and gives examples of diets and foods to eat.Disappointed....

Good for info, not all of it worth following
I was so excited to get this book and I read it like a bible. I tried many of the things that Shoman suggests. Some work, some don't. I think that's her point--it's all about trial and error for us hypothyroid people and what works for me may not work for you. She merely provides as much info as she's gathered about what's worked for some people. I'm glad I read it--not many of the things worked for me, but it helped me understand my condition better. Recipes weren't great--rather plain. I've been doing Sonoma for a couple of months and have lost 20 pounds--much happier with that diet and it's working! Sonoma fits the guidelines Shoman sets out very well. Worth trying

What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Hypothyroidism
I have read many, many books on the subject and many of those have been very practical and informative, but this one is a MUST for anyone with this health problem, I even took it for my Dr to peruse, since he is an open minded MD. Don't skip this one!

If your thyriod meditcation doesn't seem to be working, read this book
I think this book shows the many complications with thyroid problems; one medicine does not fit all.I took the book to my last medical visit because my doctor is very open minded when it comes to discussing the complications of the condition and subsequent treatment, some of the scenarios in the book described my experience.I am now trying a different approach.This book may help a lot of people understand why even though they are taking medication for thyroid complications, they are still not feeling as good as they should. It made a difference for me.

Thyroid epidemic revealed....PLEASE give this book to all your doctors!!
I have a family history of thyroid disease including both Hashimoto and Graves Disease. I took radioactive iodine for Graves disease 19 years ago, and have been on synthetic thyroid for many years.(Now supplemented with T3 dessicated thyroid hormone).
Anyone who thinks they are hypo should read this book
Very detailed information about Hypothyroidism, Can help anyone with a low basal temperature. If you think you are hypo and your doctors won't help you read this book and you will find a doctor who will help you. Lots of knowledge about this condition. Must read.

Helpful and Very Interesting, but "Buyer Beware"
I am currently reading quite a few books on the subject of Hypothyroidism, after learning that I have a strong family history of it. Everytime I go to the doctor and complain of fatigue and weakness, they say, "let's check your thyroid" and all the blood workalways comes back normal.
