A great resource
It is impossible not to pass the American Board (re)certification exam in internal medicine if you read (and digest) this concise book. Provided you have had a good 3-year training in a decent accredited internal medicine program. I would also recommend adding to this book a thorough review of the questions and answers from MKSAP (Medical Knowledge Self-Assessment Program)from the American College of Physicians. Read more

Best diet plan ever
If you follow Dr. McDougall's diet you will be guaranteed to experience far better health than you ever thought possible. Excellent text on Dysphagia
It is unfortunate that some reviewers of this book hold such a myopic view. I own this book and find myself referring this and other similar texts, such as "Deglutition and its Disorders" by Adrienne Perlman and Konrad Schulze-Delrieu, frequently. Clearly, not all individuals with dysphagia benefit from dysphagia therapy. In my humble opinion, the skills to identify patients who can benefit from SLP intervention for management of dysphagia and knowing what aspects to work on is a result of a good foundation in this speciality, ongoing continuing education, and direct clinical experience. A good measure of curiousity would help as well. Anyone who wants to learn about dysphagia would best benefit from a graduate level course that deals exclusively with the subject. Unfortunately, not all universities have a dysphagia program. Students are often left to fend themselves. I feel strongly that all SLPs working with individuals with dysphagia should attend on site CE classes offered by well known practitioners, regularly. The field is truly very broad,and a comprehensive review of the system from different perspectives definitely helps me improve my diagnostic and therapeutic skills. Another sign of decay in the SLP field
It is another sign of deterioration in the field of Speech-Language Pathology when the person elected to head the national organization in a time of crisis specializes in a medical procedure, rather than speech and language therapy. The field is in danger of losing even more of its focus and credibility than it already has. Unless SLP's concentrate on the core essentials of slp practice and find and refine treatment methods that have clinical research to back up their efficacy, the future is dim. Branching out into medical methods, as Logemann has done, is irrelevant to the serious needs of slp practice today. That Logemann was elected to head our national organization is a bad sign - not because of any merit or lack of it on her part but because the field seems to have no sense of what direction it should have. In the end, it seems to be a battle among three divisions in our field: those who are simply quacks and who are totally unconcerned with efficacy and who want the field to remain on an intuitive and "artistic/creative" level, those who want to rush into medical procedures that have nothing to do with speech and language problems, and those who want to concentrate on the core essentials of the speech and language disorders which our clients bring to us but who want to junk the quack treatments that discredit the field. What happens in the next few years, and the leadership we are given will determine if the field has a future.

Too bad this stuff doesn't work

Used this book for oral boards review.It covered every area of GI needed to pass the section.Images are high quality.Discussions are short and relevant.Book includes many examples of both common and uncommon disease entities.It emphasizes a pattern approach to each system, with differential lists and illustrations of disease entities at the end of each chapter.This book is highly recommended from someone who passed the GI section comfortably.It is better than the case review book for oral boards purposes. ... A lesson long forgotten on the importance of bowel care
Wow! This book is an eye opener. I'm saying this because most of us have never heard about the teachings in this book, although probably our grand-grandparents still knew it. The modern society and lifestyle made us neglect the laws of the Nature when taking care of our own body, to our own peril. Unfortunately, these days not even the doctors are aware of the importance of bowel care, even though until the 40's- 50's this was a well known fact. Probably after that the discovery of modern "cures" - such as antibiotics - and the growing power of pharmaceutical companies pushed these away from the medical agenda. Almost a book
This is a collection of meandering thoughts on bowel health. It would have been useful if the thoughts had been documented and discussed in more than a personal remembrance form. The diet might work, but you can't tell why from this presentation. The pictures are gross, but some of them can't be real. If you want to know if its any good just look at the number of used copies for sale. If its as good as the reviews why would so many people want to sell it?

Excellent down-to-earth approach to digestion
Finally a helpful book anyone can understand.Lots of informative sections on everything from gallbladder attachs, IBS, to ulcers.
Don't bother. Its mostly drivel
Hey. Don't be fooled by all the positive reviews. This isn't really a book about bowel problems. Its about anecdotal, unsupported, stories about some people who might have improved anyway. No science. No pretense of science. Not much information. Just look at how many used copies are for sale. Save your money. Stop going to MacDonalds, go home and cook yourself a good meal. Get a cookbook. Learn to cook. Don't buy this book. Drivel

Great office "partner"
As a solo general surgeon just out of residency, I have found this text very helpful in constructing DDx and planning Tx. Eating for Acid Reflux
Good information on acid reflux.Many of the recipes had ingredients that people with acid reflux can't use....like tomato paste with (as tolerated) in the recipe.I found only six recipes for my family.

Excellent!
I love this book, it gives you everything you need to know about GERD, and the food in the cookbook is delicious!! I reccomend this book to all GERD suffers out there!!

Disappointing recipe section
Excellent background information on the disease. One of the most complete descriptions and reasons why certain foods cause problems. However, I was very disappointed with the recipe section. I was expecting recipes for dishes that did not include foods that can cause heartburn. Instead, there were very common recipes, many containing several ingredients that GERD suffers should avoid, with instructions such as"if you have problems with onions, leave it out..."How helpful is that, really!? ...
