bloody good.(since it deals with blood disorders.)
I guess I took a liking for this book ever since I read its earlier edition. This one too is highly reccomended to all clinicians and postgraduate students of Pathology. Ideal for MT & MLT students
Little story - I never was taught hematology in a way that was understandable. I had to memorize a lot of stuff for exams. Once I began reading this book, light bulbs were turning on in my head; I began understanding reasons for various hematological disorders. Where was this book when i needed it?Anyway now that I have found you, I promise i will never sell you off! SH (ASCP) here i come!
One of the best med school texts
This is by far amongst the best medical school texts (not incl. board review stuff) out there. The 4th ed. covers all areas of hematology in a lucid, non-verbose style. I found it easy to read assigned sections for my Heme course in a timely and efficient manner. There is a good blend of pathophysiology and biochemical mechanisms essential to understanding disease processes; however, the presentation is straightforward. The text has frequent color cartoons, images, graphs and tables, which helped me visualize concepts. Moreover, modern diagnostics and treatment rationale are also adequately explaned. Overall, I am really glad i purchased this book, and plan to keep it for future reference.

Good Medical Text
This was my medical school textbook for a four week module on hematology. What I liked most about the book is that it only presented essential information. The absence of superfluous text allowed me the time to regularly read the assigned chapters while also studying the rest of the material for this class and other classes. I also found the book to be relatively easy to comprehend. (However, this is definitely not on the layman's level, and a good requisite knowledge of a first year medical school curriculum is necessary before reading.) Virtually every pathologic aspect of hematology is covered in the text: hemopoietic development, anemias, lymphomas and leukemias, coagulation disorders, etc. It also covers some treatments for the various diseases and pathologic processes. Good Reference
I'm a 4th year medical student, and found this book extremely helpful during my Blood Bank rotation. It is really good at explaining the concepts behind the technical procedures.

Use this book as a doorstop
This book is not for the beginer in blood banking.It is disjointed, confusing, difficult to comprehend, and does not flow in a logical manner.It was written by several authors, including Harmening.This probably accounts for the confusing flow.May be helpful to experienced blood bankers, but if you are a begining student trying to fathom the many intricacies of blood banking, this book will make you want to tear your hair out.Without a doubt, the worst text book I have ever read and I have a master's degreee and 1.5 years toward my PhD.Avoid this book like the plague unless you have prior knowledge or experience.It will turn you off blood banking forever.I give it a D for effort (a poor and poorly edited effort). ... Simple and to the point
Excellent book for beginners.It is simple and to the point without waffle.Beautiful pictures with good resolution.
Great descriptions and pictures
I like this book for blood cell maturation pictures and descriptions.I really like the spriral binding for ease of use.The only complaint that I have is that it does not use all three origins for describing the cells, even if the infrequently used names were in parentheses, it would be better than eliminating them entirely, i.e.Proerythroblast (pronormoblast, rubriblast).I had to write all over the book including all of the naming conventions, so I thought they should have been included.

Better than Foucar!
Clear and succinct text, supported by excellent quality images, diagnosing algorithms and great overall quality of the book make it a great asset to any student of hematopathology.

For those with a short attention span
I absolutely love the 'made incredibly easy!' series by Springhouse. I've been a CCU nurse for 12 months now. I often share these books with patients to help give a visual explaination of procedures and what to expect after the procedure is done. These books do a wonderful job of relaying information in the simplest terms so that anyone can understand it. These books are perfect for reviewing what you already know as well as learning a few things you didn't. LOVE these books! Descktop reference No-1 for haematopathologist.
It is the most usefull and practical book about bone marrow pathology that I ever read. It includes allmost all disease entities (malignant and non-malignant) that pathologis is facing in his daily diagnosticalperipheral blood and bone marrow investigations. Every entity is describedin great detail, separetely concentrating on cytology of peripheral blood,cytology and histology of bone marrow. This is quit unique way of entitydescriptions and I think it is very usefull, because it gives to the readercomplete and integrated picture of cytological and histological findings.Many other books about the bone marrow pathology does not say anythingabout the cytology of peripheral blood. There are few things hovewer,that could be delt in more detail. One of such things is that, there is tolittle comments on differential diagnosis. Chelation and other therapies
Maybe if C.M. Abratte read the book: Politics in Healing by Daniel Haley (Former NY State Assemblyman), commented by Berkley Bedell (Former Congressman), and read the Fitzgerald Report by Benedict Fitzgerald of the US Dept. of Justice to the Senate Interstate Commerce Committee 1953, he/she would understand why the so-called scientific studies can't be trusted. It is very eye-opening and enraging reading, which IS BACKED UP BY COURT (of law) DOCUMENTS!!
EDTA does not work.
This book is complete nonsense and quackery.Supporters of chelation therapy claim that "numerous" scientific studies have been conducted "proving" the efficacy of EDTA therapy.Anybody with half a brain and the research skills of a 5th grader can tell you that these studies don't exist.What does exist is a mountain of anecdotal evidence that is thrown in our face to distract us from the paucity of hard evidence from clinically controlled randomized studies.
Chelaton Reading Resource of the Best
Of the several books and articles I have read about chelation therapy, this one is the best. It is perhaps not for the 101 lesson, as it is a bit more technical, so much so that medical doctors can read it with interest. It has many references to studies and background facts. Its a Bible on Chelation.
