Physician assistant student
This is a great book.I love how it isn't just about the drugs, but gives background on the diagnosis that you are treating.I think it is layed out well, and find it very useful.I notice a lot of pharm students are reviewing this but I think it is good for practitioner's as well.However, don't think this will fit in your labcoat pocket, it could but it is sorta heavy.

Outstanding
I used this as a study guide for my PTCE. If you do so begin studying at least 5 months earlier than planned to truely understand and absorb what you will learn here in addition to your other study guides.

I read about "Nordie's at Noon" from my weekly PEOPLE magazine subscription.I actually bought the book on vacation and could not put it down--it is a quick read, but so very powerful and inspiring.I admire these four ladies' courage and their stance not to be victims.They are true survivors and are an inspiration to anyone faced with any type of illness.I passed the book along to a friend who has breast cancer as well.When you read the book, you definitely feel like you know the four authors.I recommend this book to ALL woman!

An excellent book for all women
I read the review of this book in People magazine, and was interested enough to buy it the next day.I was not disappointed-- this a wonderful book.Not only was it an interesting and well written chronicle of 4 women's fight with breast cancer, but it was educational as well. Reading first hand accounts of how breast cancer changed the lives of young women made I could relate to made me realize it's high time I knew what a BSE (Breast Self-Examination) was!

Live, Love, Laugh, Learn
This book is an amazing story about the four women authors on their journey with breast cancer, God, family, and friends.I feel so much more enlightened and comfortable with the topic of breast cancer; I've grown tremendously from my experience reading the book.One of the mantra's for one of the authors is Live, Love, Laugh.My mantra has always been Live, Love, Laugh, Learn.I Learned a great deal from this book and believe it will help others Learn about friendship and one very important part of life no one can escape.Of course, there is a huge emphasis in the book on Living, Loving and Laughing.I gave a copy of this book to approximately 100 friends across the nation.I hope this story will help many people Learn more about their family and friends who are, or who will inevitably, Live, Love, and Laugh their way through breast cancer.My Live, Love, Laugh, Learn Campaign - "PASS IT ON!" Excellent overview of cancer biology
This book provides a comprehensive overview of cancer biology. Excellent as introductory text for advanced undergraduate and beginning graduate student. Written by a lasker award winner and one of the pioneers of the molecular biological study of cancer. The accompanying CD has intersting supplimentary material especially the videos that add to the utility of the book. The accompanying poster lists the most common interconnected pathways in cancer. Highly readable and uptodate. Highly recommended for purchase.

The State of the Art as it is Known Today.
This textbook, aimed at the advanced undergraduate and graduate biology and medical students covers the basic biology of cancer at the molecular andcellular level. Research into cancer in many different directions has been continuing at an accelerated pace since about World War II. In 1975 a major breakthrough was made by H.E. Varmus and J.M. Bishop on San Francisco. The result has been the creation of the new branch of biology covered by this book.

4.5 stars for poor portability
I rate it 4.5 stars only because this book is way too big to carry to class--it's like putting a baby in your backpack. On top of the syllabi you have to lug around, the weight is ridiculous. In terms of the actual content, it's an excellent desktop resource. All drugs are organized by disease state. Literally, the drug Bible (tissue paper pages and all). I recommend it for at home/pharmacy use only, otherwise you might need a forklift.

Applied Therapeutics
Not just a drug reference, this is a clinical book.... teaches critical thinking and application of drugs, recommended by many PharmD's. You'll use it for ever.

Fantastic book
One of the best books I have read on alternative treatments. The chapters on Protocel were fantastic. Anyone contemplating using Protocel should definitely read this book!

Outsmart Your Cancer Reader Review
Overall, I thought that the book presents a credible case for using alternative treatments for cancer although there are substantial areas where clarification is needed. The author, Tanya Harter Pierce, is not a doctor and states that the book is the result of extensive personal research carried out by herself after a family member was diagnosed with cancer.

Is This a Book?
Is this a book to help out women who suffer from being misinformed about menopause or an advertisement for progesterone cream?Didn't help me at all, if anyone wants to buy it, it's yours but I don't recommend it.

An Eye-Opener Sans The Wool
Back-to-back, I've read this book and the other one by Dr. John Lee, "What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Pre Menopause: Balance Your Hormones And Your Life From Thirty To Fifty."Although the one just mentioned is more pertinent to my age group, and both books cover much of the same ground, I chose to review this book because it seems to be more in-depth.Both books, however, are laden with valuable information for women of any age.

Just a good book..
This book is a good one, but has one little problem, the book doesn't have much coherence because there are too many people writting the book. You can note the difference of redaction between the chapters because were written for different person and that's what make the book very difficult to read, because one chapters are good, but others are very bad.
Clarification about the edition
This is the 10th edition, published in 2001. Not quite as 'out-of-date' as suggested by the previous reviewer. It is, however, dificult to keep these texts current.

Good....but out of date!
"Goodman & Gilman" has been the staple of pharmacology for many years, and with good reason. While I agree with the other reviewers that it is the gold standard, in the "old days" the book was updated about every 5 years, and this one came out in 1996. Given that the book probably took a couple of years to revise, the information is close to 10 years out of date! As is stated in the Notice on p. xviii, "Medicine is an ever-changing science." Another WHO book
World Health Organization: Tumours of the Breast and Female Genital Organs (edited by Fattaneh A. Tavassoli and Peter Devilee) is the 4th in the Pathology and Genetics of Tumours series from the WHO. With an impressive set of multidisciplinary contributors from several continents, this book improves on previous books from that organization by representing a reasonable attempt towards consensus in their presentation of the various topics. The main strength of this book, as with others in the series, is that they are concise and emphasize the most salient points in each topic. While it is not meant to be an encyclopedic account of the various tumors, essential definitions, clinical findings, morphologic points, immunophenotypic variations and molecular and/or cytogenetic pathogenesis are well presented.This book does not resolve some of the more controversial issues in these fields (such as the prognostic significance of micropapillary patterns in ovarian serous borderline tumors or terminologic issues in intraductal breast proliferations), but at least provides another framework for further discussion. Medical Physics Bible!
I find this an absolutely fantastic book. It really is the bible of medical physics for radiotherapy. I had the second edition until it fell apart, and just purchased this new third edition. It explains virtually every single thing you need to know in therapy- from a theoretical point of view.
Much better books available
When I started working in Radiation Therapy, somebody recommended this book to me to learn the theoretical aspects. I am also required to teach a resident lecture out of this book. The more I use it, the less I like it. While the book may contain information on all basic and necessary topics, the way they are presented is less than optimal.

Your Lifesaver in Fluid & Electrolytes Ocean!
I purchased this book with some doubt, because you see a very high variability in these series. Now, i am very happy. Every medical student and resident gets frustrated with fliuid and electrolytes. Reading textbooks makes it worse. I have seen a lot of attendings and Nephrologists (!!) who are scared of this subject. This book can help you tremendously. It is written in a very simple language and gives you the proper approach to fluid and electrolyte problems. It is full of practical examples that you will see every day and shows you how to solve them. After reading this book, you will be confident enough to deal with electrolytes. Instead of replacing electrolytes blindly with K-Dur and Neutra-Phos and .... and not knowing what to do with Hyponatremia, you will have a nice framework in your brain to deal with them. And the best part: It is a small book. Don't hesitate to get it. You won't regret.

Good but not good enough!
This book does only provide some miner basic understanding of Na, K, and acid base pathophysiology and replacement. Other e-lytes such as magnesium, calcium, phosphor and especially the interaction of those is completely missing. The acid base part is ok for getting a basic understanding of whats going on.
Practically Life savor for both you and patient
I hardly anytime would give "5" stars to any products, but this just blew my doubts and misunderstanding out to pieces. I don't want to sound too explicit, but actually it's better than sex when you understand something and everything come to senses.

A great cookbook for everyone!
I originally bought this book because my father had cancer and I am not the best cook. However, I use it all the time now for my entire family. They love the recipes and they are quick and easy to prepare.
Be careful with this approach
If you subscribe to the view that cancer diets should focus on low fat, low sugar, and food that maintains low blood glucose levels this is a book to avoid. Receipes frequently used all purpose flour, refined sugar, powdered sugar, white potatoes, and margarine.People who have read and accept the principlesin "What To Eat If You Have Cancer" will find this cookbook difficult to use without careful receipe selection and ingredient substitution.

Fabulous and "A Must Have" Just what the Dr. Ordered
I recently purchased this book for my dad. The side effects of cancer are so grueling. This book is organized for quick access in the first few pages with all of the recipes categorized by symptom or side effects a person may be having.Also gives great menu ideas. It gives clear advice on what to do to use food as a FUEL for the FIRE to FIGHT the cancer. 5 stars, not for believing this , but for the choice;
Yes, much of Clark's work seems extreme, perhaps if mainstream medicine was a little more intellectually honest, we wouldn't need to go so far off the 'course'. For instance; When early detection is credited for longer lives, consider that in most cases, all of the 'extended' life is the time that the test was moved up,(if you took the test a year sooner, you lived an 'extra' year), ie; no real increase. Consider that many medical tests,(biopsies and mammographies), actually force open 'scar'-sealed cancer cells that never would've entered the bloodstream if left alone. Consider that many types of cancer are known by your doctor to kill you at the same point in your painful chemo and radiation treatments as you would've died , without pain, if not treated at all, yet they do their best to keep that fact unknown to their patients. Consider how the medical establishment at large claim that diet has minimal effect on helping patients,(have you ever eaten hospital food)? Ifphysicians want us to stop patronizing the 'kooks', then they had better start learning, and passing on, the truth. (Add to Mr Lewandoski): You confuse the mean, median, and mode. If you remove infant deaths and deaths from formerly untreatable war injuries from the "average age" of death, the population often lived aslong as,(and in better shape than), our current 'averages', and without all the supposed help of our modern hospitals and nursing homes. There was never an historical time when the average man was simply dropping dead at thirty, unless he was shot.

The book has no hard facts to back up all the claims.Where are the many people that are cured from these cancers and even HIV/AIDS.There are none, because the only diaganosis cured were tested by some hocus pocus in the quacks private practice.No medically diagonosed cases have ever been cured by this money grubbing con aritist.The book tries to generate fear about being contaminated by everyday living.The cure, send money for off the wall products and supplements with no quality control packing.If you would by the brooklin bridge, this book is for you. ... A New Approach, A New Attitude
I found this book inspirationally.Not because the author beat the odds in surviving a cancer considered "terminal" by all of his physicians, but because he did it by rationally setting out to explore all of his options and did not just let the "experts" tell him what to do.
A must-read for brain tumor sufferers
Dr. Williams' book is a blow by blow record of how he guided his own survival in spite of his doctors and the constraints of the FDA in overcoming a glioblastoma.His program was well-researched and gives excellent suggestions for options in taking an active part in one's own survival.Should be read by all cancer patients, particularly those suffering with brain tumors.He also published an annual online update of the information contained in the book.

The Bible of GBM
I bought this book when my dad was diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM) in late 2005.At first I was skeptical of his harsh criticism of the medical institution as a whole, but as my dad's surgery, chemo and radiation went on, I realized how 100% RIGHT ON Dr. Williams is in this book.You MUST buy this if you know someone suffering from this agressive form of brain cancer.Our family purchased three copies so each of us could have their own for reference.If you don't buy any other book about GBM, buy this one.Dr. Williams has survived ELEVEN years from diagnosis with a type of brain cancer that has an average survival time of 14 months. ... Excellent reference material
The book is an excellent source of information regardless of the oncologic field one is in. It gives a good overview of the field of radiation oncology for those not in the field. Its algorithms are an easy read for quick reference. Multimodality treatment is well emphasized in the text
