Excellent
There is a lot of excellent material in this book. Yes, of the 400 pages, "only" 230 are the main text and 140 pages are model reports. I would have bought the book just for the main text. The model reports are worthy extras. Not to mention the 20 pages of "advice from the trenches".
It's not too late to learn a few excellent things!
There are only a few "how-to" books for the person who must give a learned or "expert" opinion on legal issue. Most are notably less than satisfactory. In my opinion, Babitsky and Mangraviti have tackled one of the most difficult aspects about being an "expert," that of writing a defensible report. The messages in their treatise are quite clear. "Don't commit something to paper unless you can support it with documentation!" "Write the report when you feel you fully understand the issue and not when the attorney says you are ready!" And perhaps more important, "Leave the adverbs and adjectives for your next novel!" Writing and Defending Your Expert Report

Lots of errors
I noticed a lot of errors while using this book.When you are taking the exams - the answers don't match the rationale.For example - the book says the answer is #2, but the rationale matches the answer for #3.Not recommended.

MUST HAVE TO PASS
Love this book!Went through every question in the entire book as a review and also took Kaplan's prep class.Passed NCLEX with 75 questions.WOW!I owe passing to this book, seriously.If you're hard pressed for time, just do the questions in this book and learn from the answers.

I used this while in nursing school and it is a excellent refresher and review after studying your text books & class lecture. I must admit I did not use it for the NCLEX because I misplaced it after Hurricane Katrina. I used the NSNA review book & Frye 3000 nursingbullets to study which were simplyexcellent and all you need to pass the NCLEX on first try. Book for Class
I bought this book for school. So far it is alright. If one is looking into a leadership role it is a good read

Very useful and educational book
We are using this in my Intro to Leadership course at college and I have found the book to be very interesting. The author writes very clearly and explains everything quite well. I know its weird to write about, but I really enjoy this authors writing style. I rarely get an academic book where the writing is simple and very straight forward. In a crunch, I can read the first setence or two from each of his paragraphs and understand the concepts of the chapter quite well.

Clinical Anesthesiology
It is a good basic book that covers the essentilas very clearlyin not too long chapters. It is a good entry level book for doctors during their first year of residence in anesthesia.
Excellent!
This would be an optimal choice for most medical students with a special interest in anasthesia as well as for anaesthesia residents. It's extremely well-written, neither too detailed nor too simple. The authors write with authority, which is a good thing.
Still a great resource
I just updated my older, well read copy recently. This is still my favorite anesthesia resource, the book I grab when I want to refresh my memory about this or that.

A smart tool to review pertinent info for both the exam and clinical practice
I passed the Family Practice exam and this book was a great help! She knows how to present the right amount of appropriate information to make it useful rather than overwhelming. The summaries and tables were a big big help. I would also recommend this as a review book for anyone who just wants to brush up their basics for clinical practice.

Pozgar's book is organized by legal topic and cites relevant case law in all instances.It is an excellent overview of American law as it applies to the health care practitioner or organization.He has taken a topic thatit difficult to communicate and made it very enjoyable reading.Studentswill find it much easier reading than most graduate level texts.

Superior to other References
The Drug Information Handbook for Advanced Practice Nurses is the Nurse Practitioners premiere drug reference.Drugs are arranged alphabetically by both generic and brand name.Each drug is discussed at it's generic listing.Brand names give the generic name and page number allowing quick reference.The content is very encompassing with nearly all new and old drugs referenced. The usual categories of drug name, therapeutic category, use, etc are included.I find the section on patient information and instruction most helpful in discussing agents with patients. Read more

Must Have for A&P Students
This is a great resource for anyone in A&P. Most topics are easy to follow and to understand. There are a few errors (or, that's what my A&P instructor told me), but not enough to worry about. I love Marieb's writing style. She also includes tons of pictures and charts. I love this book and it's going to be a wonderful resource once I'm a nurse!

Great for A and P students, must buy
I used this book for both my Anatomy and Physiology class in undergrad.I found this book to be pretty easy to understand.Of course, at first it is overwhelming to know how much you have to remember for the test.At least, writing style of this book made A and P easier to learn.The material is presented in organized fashion.However, if you really want to know the type of questions asked on college Anatomy and Physiology Exams get the following which is on amazon: Anatomy and Physiology Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers with Explanations Volume 1(ISBN: 0971999619) and Volume 2 (ISBN: 0971999627).These two helped me to get A's on my exams.The textbook and the two study guides are well worth the money since they helped me to pass with high grades the first time.I was recommened the study guides from my cousin who used them for his A and P class and found them to be great for test preparation.I give each book 5 stars. ... PASS CCRN
If you like reading material that will put you to sleep this is the book for you. I was very dissapointed in this book. The book is just a collection of material from other books. It reads like a research paper. I was hoping to have more material concerning nursing questions. The only thing that is more disappointing about this book is the price I paid for it. The only reason I did not give this book one star is that it has a cd rom that is somewhat helpful.

Excellent Review and Practice Book
I recently passed the ANCC FNP certification exam in February 2006.I used this to supplement a review book that I had and found it to be an excellent review and practice preparation resource.The book isn't overwhelming and I believe it helped me to successfully pass the exam.

Highly recommend
This was an excellent test preparation for boards.I purchased four different books, and attended the Fitzgerald review, and found this to be the highest quality BOOK of the group.I thought it was better in that it is in the true format of the test with multiple questions from various areas in random sequence, and not just by subject section.The questions paralleled the difficulty of the exam and included succinct explanations of the rationale. HIGHLY Recommended!!!!I suggest attending a Fitzgerald review if possible as well, dynamic. BTW, I passed the AANP without difficulty.

I guess this was a sucessful purchase, as I just passed my FNP board exams. I had previously been using Fitzgeralds review course and test review only. This text is quite different from the previously mentioned ones. The format is very student friendly, with questions on the front of page and answers/rationale on the back. There were a very few mistakes (less than 1%)and all info followed current evidence-based practice guidelines. After The Third Policeman and The Turn of the Screw, I thought this would be a snoozefest, but it was actually very interesting.I'm not sure who left it or why (do I sound paranoid? I don't mean to sound paranoid), but I think the information may prove useful down the road....

There are some nice features of this book, but....
Chapter outlines would improve this book, rather than just objectives listed in the beginning of each chapter. Sometimes in the headings, subheadings, you get lost on to where you were going with all of it. Great key concepts in the back, it would also be nice if there was a glossary in the back.
Epitomizes basic nursing
I'm surprised by others' negative reviews. My friends and I think this is the best text book on basic nursing ever published. It covers everything one could want to know for basic nursing, including exact procedures for injections, IV's, surgical procedure, etc. It encompasses nursing history, ethics, laws, develpment, everything! Our nursing program doesn't go in the order of their chapters, so we just go to the chapter that applies. I use it for every class I have, whether or not it's an "assigned" text book. You could read it and literally have all the basic skills needed to be a beginning nurse. Um...did I mention I love this book?

A must read
I have always found Varney to be useful and easy to read, especially in comparison to Speroff or Gabbe.I think that this book was never intended to be the definitive text on home birth. If a midwife's interest lies in homebirth, seek out books that cater to that option.I found the skills sections especially helpful.It isn't Varney's job to unite midwives, her primary job is to educate.You can not teach the spirit of midwife through a book, that's where mentoring comes into play.This is certainly a must have for all practicing midwives, regardless of educational background.

Technically accurate, boring read
I am impressed by Varney's vast knowledge of hospital procedures as they relate to midwifery care. However, I found this to be "textbook" as a very boring read. Her information did not really cover the practice outside the hospital setting as thoroughly as would be needed for someone praticing in that setting. Her information would be most appreciated by the CNM and the L&D nurse - a great resource for them.

Nursing Care Plans: Nursing Diagnosis and Intervention
This is a very good book for care plan help. Not alot of psychosocial but has an online resource that will help you too.

This book is a nursing student's lifesaver!

I am a senior nursing student and this book is a GODSEND for care plan assignments and as a supplement for class lectures. Organization by medical diagnosis rather than nursing diagnoses helps by including pathophysiology and disease-specific nursing interventions. Interventions are listed very thoroughly with clearly explained rationales. This book is also a great tool for clinical though its size makes it somewhat cumbersome to carry around all day. One of the best nursing texts this student has encountered so far ...
I've been through a lot of textbooks on my journey to and through nursing school, and Wong's Essentials is, without doubt, one of the very best! -- Thorough, concise, up to date ... I'm planing on keeping my copy around as a reference even after I've passed the NCLEX. I wish that I could say the same about most of the other nursing texts I've been assigned thus far.

WONG'S ESSENTIALS OF PEDS
Great book!I like the format.It is an "easy read" next to other text books.Very clear and concise.I had no problem find the information I needed for my PBL's (problem based learning) in this book.I have not used the EXCURSIONS program, but am anxious to use it. In glancing through the workbook, the computer program is set up like a hospital.You are given patients and must determine their treatment/care.The workbook has sections for you to work through.This is not a requirement for my program, but I think it will be an asset.

The Virtual Clinical Excursions was required for my peadiatric nursing class.I would not recommend it unless it is required.It is kinda neat at first because you click on the hospital entrance, click on the elevator, click on the floor you want to go to.But it is slow to navigate.You watch a nurse practitioner do assessments and look through virtual charts.There's just not that much to learn from it. ...
