3-0 out of 5 stars Classic book.
Intro to physical examination. Easy and harmless.Liked the chapter summary. This is a book for all health care profesionals. Physicians should use DeGowin or Sapira.

1-0 out of 5 stars Index Incorrect
The index in the version I have is completely inaccurate. What's more, to obtain errata you're required to enter a code on the publisher's website. This code is not stamped on the book but is on the packaging which I unfortunately threw away before I noticed the index was completely inaccurate.
4-0 out of 5 stars Save money, buy a used book !
Once again, the teacher recommended we buy the newest version.

5-0 out of 5 stars AAS nursing student
i had an amazing teacher for medical dosage, and he recommended this book ( the department actually assigned a different book). this book was great, it makes learning fool proof. everything is explained in full, clear detail and makes it for an easy A grade.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book!
This is the book we used for my BSN program Dosage Calculation class and I thought it was great. It starts you from the beginning (fractions, ratios, etc) and goes from there. There is no need for a teacher when using this book, it explains things very well and in a simple, easy to read/understand manner.Excellent for the beginner.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nursing Care Plans: Nursing Diagnosis and Intervention
This is a very good book for care plan help. Not alot of psychosocial but has an online resource that will help you too.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is a nursing student's lifesaver!
This book saved me in nursing school! Every semester my teachers kept a copy of my nursing plans to show future students. My friends struggled with care plans, but this book made it easy for me. Highly recommended!

5-0 out of 5 stars If you are a nursing student, you NEED this book...
I am a senior nursing student and this book is a GODSEND for care plan assignments and as a supplement for class lectures. Organization by medical diagnosis rather than nursing diagnoses helps by including pathophysiology and disease-specific nursing interventions. Interventions are listed very thoroughly with clearly explained rationales. This book is also a great tool for clinical though its size makes it somewhat cumbersome to carry around all day. I highly highly recommend it! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Picky Book buyer loves it!!
I felt that this was the most complete and EASY to use Lab book for nursing students, such as I.It even suggests what abnormals can mean clinically.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply the best
Honestly, I don't give many books 5 stars, nor do I give many glowing reviews, but Mosby really did an outstanding job putting this book together. The format is friendly, the data is accurate, and the tests are all relevant in hospital or clinical settings.Great book and an invaluable reference for nurses and laboratorians alike! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Nurse's Pocket Guide
Everything I needed in a book on diagnoses, interventions and rationales. This is a great must-have for all new nursing students.

4-0 out of 5 stars essential book
I used this book constantly throughout the first year of school. It is an essential for the firsty year.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good as a guide
but not to be used solely for writing care plans and here's the main reason why: there are very few rationales. Too few. In the care plans I was required to write, I had to have scientific rationales for each and every intervention. This book includes some rationales but not one for each intervention. I did use this book some but it will not be enough alone for those whose teacher, like mine, requires quoted rationales for each intervention of your care plan. Furthermore, the new NANDA approved Nursing Diagnoses for 2005-2006 aren't included which I was expected to know and start using when applicable this school year.So I had to go out and buy a new care plan book.I think this guide is intended, as the title suggests, for Nurses already working as a pocket guide, and not specifically for nursing students. It is a bit too tall and heavy to keep in your pocket working in the hospital but you could leave it at your station.

5-0 out of 5 stars Greastes book for care plans
This is the best book i have found to help students write nursing care plans. I have several books and this is the only book that i use.I have wasted money on buying these other books. Even the care plan book that is recommended by the instructors, i never open it. THIS BOOK IS WONDERFUL!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Ackley's nursing diagnosis handbook
I was not thrilled with the textbooks that my nursing college was using.I searched Amazon for books that I felt would help me write care plans without flipping back and forth between NIC, NOC and Nanda. Nursing Diagnosis Handbook: A Guide to Planning Care was just what I needed. The rationales are provided--along with the research data sources. It is also easy to do concept mapping with this book because it lists clusters of symptoms for different medical problems. With the purchase of this book, I have access to the Evolve website--which I find really helpful.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Resource
The Ackley nursing diangnosis handbook is a great reference for nurses and nursing students beginning to write nursing care plans. It not only outlines plans of care, but gives references for evidence-based practices.I would strongly recommend this text to all nursing students. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent and handy guide !
The Batess' pocket guide is a wonderful tool for clinicians.
4-0 out of 5 stars EASY-TO-COMPREHEND POCKET GUIDE
This "Bates' Pocket Guide to Physical Examination and History Taking" is an easy-to-comprehend manual which was structured in a way that should meet the needs of both doctors and nurses. The information contained in this book are simple and straightforward; and just like the complete edition, they included paediatric coverage. The chapters of this book examined both morphological and physiological abnormalities and/or irregularities. They included several illustrative charts and tables, which facilitate comparative analyses of clinical data.5-0 out of 5 stars What a find!
This book is a very thorough review of the physical diagnostic exam.It provides a thorough review of systems that is brief and to the point. While not a substitute for the text, it is quick and easy to use.To topit all off, it REALLY is a perfect sized book for the pocket. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great reference
I'm a nursing student and used this book for my first clinical rotation. It is an excellent resource as it is easy to use and not only defines the tests themselves but also gives clear concise reasons for high or low values. It was a great investment for me as a student.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very good primary care office resource
Our busy office found this book an excellent resource. We hardly had to change the protocols much at all, only to update a few to reflect some changes in medications we use.The author has taken great pain to design a resource that saved us a great deal of time....I had started to do some of these for our office by myself BEFORE I came across this book and am embarrassed to admit the few protocols I managed to plod through were amateurish indeed compared to Ms. Briggs's work herein. Our office is a busy internal medicine practice with a heavy dose of geriatrics and we give this a "strong buy!"

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book
If the armed forces uses it and bases their clinical practice guidelines on it, it's got to be good, right? It is. I use this book in nurse telephone triage for a military pediatric clinic with 2700 patients. The book is spiral bound and easy to flip pages, and the pages stay open to the topic you are using. Topics are alphabetized which saves time when searching for a certain topic. There is a very useful table of contents at the front. The home care instructions are straight forward and acceptable to our parents. It doesn't have all the topics you would need (that's what pediatricians are for), but tab topics you use most, add a drug book and a pediatrician, and you're ready to go.

5-0 out of 5 stars The most comprehensive/user freindly telephone triage book.
When it came time to select a book to use as a guideline for triage assessment, I searched through 15 books and a couple of computerized systems. This book is the easiest to follow, without being too simplistic. The format is exceptional and key questions are clear, concise and stillopen-ended enough to prevent "leading" your patient. There arecross-references for each complaint, as well as home care measures for eachailment. The final points are the blank formatted pages for writing yourown protocols, and tracking charts to complete QA.5 stars hardly seemenough! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Better Choices Available
This author has some good insights contained in the Author's Notes at the beginning of each nursing diagnosis. In her Notes she explains the differences between diagnoses that seem almost identical. But you can get the same insights in her smaller, more concise Handbook of Nursing Diagnosis, without the expense and inconvenience of the full-blown, padded-out version. Also, the smaller Handbook should not be your first care planning book.Instead, it's a valuable supplement that will help refine your understanding of the topic.

1-0 out of 5 stars Waste-O-Money
Bought this book as it was 'required' for nursing courses.I suspect this is the only reason this book is ever even purchased, because it IS NOT HELPFUL!Never seen such a convoluted resource, this was the WORST.IMO, Carpenito is obviously riding on her laurels from past publications. If you are a beginning nursing student that is attempting to make heads or tails of care planning, save yourself the agony now.THUMBS DOWN!

2-0 out of 5 stars Thereis a better choice!
I bought this book thinking it would be a bigger and better version of the spiral bound Handbook of Nursing Diagnosis. It really isn't!I feel that this book is hard to navigate through and never use it!I paid 45ish dollars for this book and think it was a HUGE WASTE OF MONEY.I do, on the other hand, LOVE the SPIRAL BOUND HANDBOOK OF NURSING DIAGNOSIS by the same author Carpenito-Moyet.I have discussed this topic with many of my classmates who also have these books and eveyone of my classmates have agreed. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars This is the book to have
This is the book to have for anyone that has to write care plans. We all bought different books so we could share and this was by far the best out of at least 10 different books. It has everything we needed except a section on cultural sensitivity. If it had that you could not need any other book to write a care plan in school.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great reference!!
This book is fantastic for its interventions and rationales. They are relatively straight-forward and make it easier in preparing a care plan. The book is divided into sections: Adult Health, Child Health, Maternal-Neonatal Health, Geriatric and Psych. There is an appendix in the back of the book listing many medical diagnoses and the related nursing diagnoses.I would highly recommend this book to any nursing student!

5-0 out of 5 stars A must have!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Resource
This book takes electrophysiology and breaks it down into manageable bites. I first bought this book when I took ACLS as a new grad and was scared to death of having to differentiate between Mobitz 1 and 2, etc...I also like using it with patients for the illustrations when trying to explain what "those strange blips on the monitor" mean.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not "Incredibly Easy"!!
While this book advertises that it will make ECG interpretation "easy", it does provide the proper graphics to make this possible. The first few chapters of the book are accessible and the end of chapter quizzes are helpful. However, once you get to Chapter 3"Interpreting a Rhythm Strip", the strips are impossible to interpret due the small size of the strips! You need to be able to count the boxes to interpret the rhythms and this is virtually impossible, unless you have a large magnifying glass!I thought this might be one occurrence in the book, but it is throughout, making interpretation of strips near impossible! As a novice ECG person, this is not something that I would have looked for before purchasing the book.Other ECG interpretation books have much better graphics of the strips, making interpretation (while still not "easy") doable, and not frustrating!

2-0 out of 5 stars Not very thorough
I would strongly recommend the Bates Guide To Physical Examination over this book. This book lacks many procedure details that would help a student learn physical assessment skills. There are some vocabulary terms in the chapters that are undefined, and the illustrations are very limited.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is the best I've seen
I'm a medical student whose school uses Bates' guide... I must say that this book FAR surpasses Bates. Not only is the information complete, but the pictures and "jewels" it presents are wonderful. This is also better than the Schwartz (which I own also). If I could choose all over which book to buy of the three, I would DEFINITELY buy this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Terrific
Excellent book, superior picture and graphic, good explanations, If you want to buy an excellent book of semiology...here it is. The CD bring usefull information, and friendly interface for students. A recomendation for the Authors could be insert video of each maneuver and sign, as well asclinical interviews of each capital syndrome. ... Read more
