5-0 out of 5 stars like it
I got the book for my ICU rotation, its a easy read. Goes over the imp stuff and the basics too. Liked it a lot.

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent book overall
Too little details in places (mechanical ventilation) but too wordy in others.Excellent cardiopulmonary phys review, good breadth of subjects.Kinda big book but fast reading.

5-0 out of 5 stars My favorite
This book is rare because it is original. It welcomes you to the real world of critical care as seen by one expert physician. It was probably never intended for quick reference or board prep. The relatively large print and generous spacing make the book bigger but more pleasant to read. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars PASS CCRN
If you like reading material that will put you to sleep this is the book for you. I was very dissapointed in this book. The book is just a collection of material from other books. It reads like a research paper. I was hoping to have more material concerning nursing questions. The only thing that is more disappointing about this book is the price I paid for it. The only reason I did not give this book one star is that it has a cd rom that is somewhat helpful.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pricey
This is an expensive book, however a good resource to keep on hand. This book is set up as an outline. This is not a detailed text covering all the ins and outs of pathophysiology on the cellular level. It does cover pathophysiology but set up in an outline form, not a standard textbook. Easy to read and grasp information.

3-0 out of 5 stars Cost effective
This book can be found cheaper at the AACN web site.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent resource for critical care nursing
The Core Curriculum for Critical Care Nursing is a concise, thoroughreview of each body system. Each major chapter not only outlines athorough review of A&P, it also goes into common disease states withineach system and even discusses nursing concerns with each disease.I haveused this book for several years personally, and my director has one in theICU for a resource at work.I highly recommend this book. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Very good primary care office resource
Our busy office found this book an excellent resource. We hardly had to change the protocols much at all, only to update a few to reflect some changes in medications we use.The author has taken great pain to design a resource that saved us a great deal of time....I had started to do some of these for our office by myself BEFORE I came across this book and am embarrassed to admit the few protocols I managed to plod through were amateurish indeed compared to Ms. Briggs's work herein. Our office is a busy internal medicine practice with a heavy dose of geriatrics and we give this a "strong buy!"

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book
If the armed forces uses it and bases their clinical practice guidelines on it, it's got to be good, right? It is. I use this book in nurse telephone triage for a military pediatric clinic with 2700 patients. The book is spiral bound and easy to flip pages, and the pages stay open to the topic you are using. Topics are alphabetized which saves time when searching for a certain topic. There is a very useful table of contents at the front. The home care instructions are straight forward and acceptable to our parents. It doesn't have all the topics you would need (that's what pediatricians are for), but tab topics you use most, add a drug book and a pediatrician, and you're ready to go.

5-0 out of 5 stars The most comprehensive/user freindly telephone triage book.
When it came time to select a book to use as a guideline for triage assessment, I searched through 15 books and a couple of computerized systems. This book is the easiest to follow, without being too simplistic. The format is exceptional and key questions are clear, concise and stillopen-ended enough to prevent "leading" your patient. There arecross-references for each complaint, as well as home care measures for eachailment. The final points are the blank formatted pages for writing yourown protocols, and tracking charts to complete QA.5 stars hardly seemenough! ... Read more

I found this book to be really resourceful and up to date. Definitely recommend to others.

4-0 out of 5 stars High Acuity Nursing
This book has been very helpful to our new nurses who seem overwhelmed when they first get out of school.Self-paced modules help them incoorporate their knowledge with the types of patients they take care of.I have used this book for seasoned nurses too. They like the validation they get from being able to pre- and post-test.
1-0 out of 5 stars this book is horrible
I am a senior nursing student and I am appalled at this book. Our instructor loves it and has been using it. I brought to her attention that in the pediatric module, some of the pretest answers are WRONG!!! I know they are wrong- or I would not be a senior nursing student!!!! Out of all the majors and careers and textbooks that need to give accurate information- ACUTE CARE NURSING IS THE ONE!!!!! This is sooo extremely important! I am very disappointed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent training resource for new graduates
Filled with self paced modules applicable to the critical care, emergency room, and medical-surical setting, High Acuity Nursing is an excellent clinical resource to supplement orientation & training programs of new graduate nurses.Organized by body system, it integrates A&P, clinical nursing applications, and critical thinking all in one.I used it with my new graduates when orienting them to the IMCU, ED, and med-surg units. They found the information helpful in tying in the clinical content they were learning during orientation and the practical application of it.They rated the self learning modules highly in the evaluations.Internal transfers into the ICU have also found it to be helpful when orienting to that new setting. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great test review tool!
I love this CD! It is a great way to take a break from studying, have fun and still use your precious time effectively! It is filled with humor and even gives you praise for correct answers. If you answer incorrectly, you may get a pie in the face, or your desk may fall through a trap door in the floor! You can choose 3 different modes:endless lecture, problem patient, tedious textbook torture. You can then pick your content from a list of topics. I use it before our units tests to see what I still need to rewiew! Watch your test grades improve. I highly reccomend this fun CD for any nursing student, or anyone considering critical care. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Resource
This book takes electrophysiology and breaks it down into manageable bites. I first bought this book when I took ACLS as a new grad and was scared to death of having to differentiate between Mobitz 1 and 2, etc...I also like using it with patients for the illustrations when trying to explain what "those strange blips on the monitor" mean.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not "Incredibly Easy"!!
While this book advertises that it will make ECG interpretation "easy", it does provide the proper graphics to make this possible. The first few chapters of the book are accessible and the end of chapter quizzes are helpful. However, once you get to Chapter 3"Interpreting a Rhythm Strip", the strips are impossible to interpret due the small size of the strips! You need to be able to count the boxes to interpret the rhythms and this is virtually impossible, unless you have a large magnifying glass!I thought this might be one occurrence in the book, but it is throughout, making interpretation of strips near impossible! As a novice ECG person, this is not something that I would have looked for before purchasing the book.Other ECG interpretation books have much better graphics of the strips, making interpretation (while still not "easy") doable, and not frustrating!

5-0 out of 5 stars does what it says in the title

I needed a book that focused only on Nursing Intervention because most of my exams are more based on "what does the nurse do?".At times, we do not really need all that the textbook says, especially when an exam comes up, and you just need to summarize. So far, it seems to be good, and I have a feeling that this is what will follow me through nursing school. ... Editorial Review

Caring for patients with chronic wounds is challenging because the causes of the injuries can be complex. This new edition has up-to-date coverage of stage 1 pressure ulcers, pressure ulcer monitoring, and the Pressure Ulcer Scale for Healing (PUSH). While the illustrations may not make this book suitable lunchtime reading, it's an excellent choice for anyone preparing for the certification exam given by the American Academy of Wound Management. 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Tool for Multidisciplinary Wound Management
As a Physical Therapist and head of a rural health consortium's wound management team, I found this to be an invaluable tool for assesment, planning, monitoring and reimbursement. I feel this is the best clinicalresource currently available for PTs.

4-0 out of 5 stars a basic wound care reference for inexperienced clinicians
if you're looking for wound care decision pathways, protocols, documentation guidelines and how-to instructions on basic dressing change type wound care - then this is the book for you. the book's shortcomingsare an almost complete lack of specificity on therapeutic interventionssuch as debridement techniques designed to activate certain tissueprocesses, and a wordy superficiality in most of the text. not a text forphysicians or experienced clinicians looking for sophisticatedinterventions. a good comprehensive guide for beginners

5-0 out of 5 stars Best pressure ulcer reference available
This is a great reference for pressure ulcers, surgical wounds, vascular ulcers, and management of neuropathies.I found the title misleading because I expected it to cover all types of wounds including treatment offresh lacerations and puncture wounds from accidents. If your looking forinformation on these last two subjects, this is not the book to use. However, if you care for people with pressure ulcer risk or wounds, diabetic risks, surgical incisions,or venous or arterial ulcers in longterm care, rehab, home health, or are a wound care specialist, thisreference is the definitive resource. As an RN who works in amultidisciplinary environment with PTs, I found the information on the PTrole in wound management collaboration very informative. It actually has asection on managing wound healing with physical therapy technologies suchas diathermy, ultrasound, and electrical stimulation to name a few.If youprefer to buy hard cover books for your reference library, don't let the"paperback" disuade you. This book is really a hardback similarin type to school textbooks. ...
