5-0 out of 5 stars Very good primary care office resource
Our busy office found this book an excellent resource. We hardly had to change the protocols much at all, only to update a few to reflect some changes in medications we use.The author has taken great pain to design a resource that saved us a great deal of time....I had started to do some of these for our office by myself BEFORE I came across this book and am embarrassed to admit the few protocols I managed to plod through were amateurish indeed compared to Ms. Briggs's work herein. Our office is a busy internal medicine practice with a heavy dose of geriatrics and we give this a "strong buy!"

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book
If the armed forces uses it and bases their clinical practice guidelines on it, it's got to be good, right? It is. I use this book in nurse telephone triage for a military pediatric clinic with 2700 patients. The book is spiral bound and easy to flip pages, and the pages stay open to the topic you are using. Topics are alphabetized which saves time when searching for a certain topic. There is a very useful table of contents at the front. The home care instructions are straight forward and acceptable to our parents. It doesn't have all the topics you would need (that's what pediatricians are for), but tab topics you use most, add a drug book and a pediatrician, and you're ready to go.

5-0 out of 5 stars The most comprehensive/user freindly telephone triage book.
When it came time to select a book to use as a guideline for triage assessment, I searched through 15 books and a couple of computerized systems. This book is the easiest to follow, without being too simplistic. The format is exceptional and key questions are clear, concise and stillopen-ended enough to prevent "leading" your patient. There arecross-references for each complaint, as well as home care measures for eachailment. The final points are the blank formatted pages for writing yourown protocols, and tracking charts to complete QA.5 stars hardly seemenough! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Forensic nursing
I have studied forensic nursing through Kaplan University for the last 9 months. I found this textbook to be a wonderful and thorough resource. Covers all the necessary material.

4-0 out of 5 stars A knowlegable compilation
They call Virginia Lynch the godmother of forensic nursing. Her text is packed with information about the many specialties available to the forensic nurse. Ms. Lynch had multiple authors contribute their "best" to this book. Linda Ledray writes about sexual assault, the others write about their own special practice and specialized knowledge in the field.
5-0 out of 5 stars Forensic Nursing

Editorial Review

Caring for patients with chronic wounds is challenging because the causes of the injuries can be complex. This new edition has up-to-date coverage of stage 1 pressure ulcers, pressure ulcer monitoring, and the Pressure Ulcer Scale for Healing (PUSH). While the illustrations may not make this book suitable lunchtime reading, it's an excellent choice for anyone preparing for the certification exam given by the American Academy of Wound Management. 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Tool for Multidisciplinary Wound Management
As a Physical Therapist and head of a rural health consortium's wound management team, I found this to be an invaluable tool for assesment, planning, monitoring and reimbursement. I feel this is the best clinicalresource currently available for PTs.

4-0 out of 5 stars a basic wound care reference for inexperienced clinicians
if you're looking for wound care decision pathways, protocols, documentation guidelines and how-to instructions on basic dressing change type wound care - then this is the book for you. the book's shortcomingsare an almost complete lack of specificity on therapeutic interventionssuch as debridement techniques designed to activate certain tissueprocesses, and a wordy superficiality in most of the text. not a text forphysicians or experienced clinicians looking for sophisticatedinterventions. a good comprehensive guide for beginners

5-0 out of 5 stars Best pressure ulcer reference available
This is a great reference for pressure ulcers, surgical wounds, vascular ulcers, and management of neuropathies.I found the title misleading because I expected it to cover all types of wounds including treatment offresh lacerations and puncture wounds from accidents. If your looking forinformation on these last two subjects, this is not the book to use. However, if you care for people with pressure ulcer risk or wounds, diabetic risks, surgical incisions,or venous or arterial ulcers in longterm care, rehab, home health, or are a wound care specialist, thisreference is the definitive resource. As an RN who works in amultidisciplinary environment with PTs, I found the information on the PTrole in wound management collaboration very informative. It actually has asection on managing wound healing with physical therapy technologies suchas diathermy, ultrasound, and electrical stimulation to name a few.If youprefer to buy hard cover books for your reference library, don't let the"paperback" disuade you. This book is really a hardback similarin type to school textbooks. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars I keep it by me constantly!!!
This is a handy little book for the ER! I work as an ER RN, and mine is with me everyday... Since I am a relatively new grad, Istill have a lot to learn (and remember!)From code drugs to burn charts, ACLS algorhythms and EKG stuff, down to being a quick reminder of what a med is for again, this book is so helpful! I have flipped open the Spanish section many a time in triage, although I do wish it was more in depth.

3-0 out of 5 stars Where's the beef?
I'm a new grad RN going to the ER and I think I'll function better and learn faster after reading this book.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent reference text to prepare for CEN
The CEN tests for core knowledge in emergency nursing. The course content excludes cutting edge information until it is accepted as standard of care across all emergency departments. To be fair, relatively new standards of care -- such as the 5-tier ESI triage -- cannot become part of the testing process until implemented by most emergency nurses across the nation.
2-0 out of 5 stars Something's Missing
I purchased this book to review for the CEN, and to brush up on my general emergency nursing knowledge. So far I have made it to page 451 (out of 800+) and I am rather disappointed. Many of the nuances that could make this a great text simply aren't there--such as tricks of the trade and drug info and more background on conditions. In addition, there just doesn't seem to be any life to this book.Ok, granted it is a textbook---but I have read textbooks before with some life in them, and this isn't one of them.It is so boring and dull it just makes me want to cry.I start to read and find myself several hours latter drooling all over the book, wishing that I had been abducted by aliens as that would have been a better way to past the time. Finally, this book glosses over several common ER complaints, does not cover several others, and seeds the material that it does provide with errors and outdated facts.I am, however, determined to finish reading it and to pass the CEN. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Sexual Assault
This is a wonderful book for individuals who are examining patients who have been sexually assaulted. Shows normal anatomy and variations, including non-sexual injuries. 5-0 out of 5 stars This book should be "required" reading for ALL front-line health professionals.
The second edition of this popular triage manual still has one important item missing, but I'll tell you what it does have first. It provides a total look at emergency room triage from all angles. For the nursing students and new grads there are pointers about basic patient assessment and evidenced based treatment. For senior staff and emergency department management personnel there are guidelines for leadership and quality assurance. For busy ER personnel there are alphabetized listings of patient complaints, emergency alerts to help nurses recognize serious conditions quickly, "Pearls of Triage Wisdom" with timely clinical tips, and cross-cultural considerations.
5-0 out of 5 stars A must-have for all ED nurses
Finally an RN Triage guide book plus. This book was written by somebody who has been there and done that.5-0 out of 5 stars This book should be on the reading list of every nurse!
This is definitely a MUST READ AND KEEP HANDY reference/guide to facilitating an effective andappropriate triage process in any setting, with any patient. Written primarily for the urgent/emergencycare nurse, this book is easy to navigate and will be a valuable resourcein every ER, outpatient clinic, physicians office, school healthcenter and medical library. I can see it reaching the very top of the "required" reading list for ALL front-line health professionals;especially telehealth/telephone triage nurses.Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY
It's hard to believe that a book edited by doctors and nurses could have so many typos and spelling errors. In addition, the format doesn't help you retain information - some answers are just long lists of symptoms. There is rarely any explanation of why the answer is correct, which to be fair, isn't surprising since it's advertised as a book that simply contains the correct answers. The cardiology section asks very difficult questions which are more suited to medical diagnosis than to nursing assessment and implementation of emergency care.
