Perhaps, the book is not horrible and it is just my class
This book tries so hard to make social and cultural variances seem like scientific fact. Of course, a nursing text should discuss patient care but not as always black and white; it edges on stereotyping at times. Conversely, if physiology is mentioned, the science behind the concept is often ignored. I think this book is based on pseudo-science at times.
Good soruce of information
This book provides good explanations for the various processes and procedures of nursing. I really like the additional material such as the CD and the website.

Classic book.
Intro to physical examination. Easy and harmless.Liked the chapter summary. This is a book for all health care profesionals. Physicians should use DeGowin or Sapira.

Index Incorrect
The index in the version I have is completely inaccurate.What's more, to obtain errata you're required to enter a code on the publisher's website.This code is not stamped on the book but is on the packaging which I unfortunately threw away before I noticed the index was completely inaccurate.
Save money, buy a used book !

A product of modern TCM
This text is both well-written and comprehensive in its detail of modern TCM, and also sorely lacking in the nuance and subtlety that is the heart of Chinese medicine from which modern TCM is derived.It is a useful text with which to prepare for board exams, but of very limited benefit in its contribution to a sensitive exploration of the classical approaches to health and illness that Chinese medicine offers.If this book is optional for you, I would encourage you to go hear Mr. MacIocia speak in person, and then decide if he is the scholar whose text you want at this price.

I Highly Recommed This Book
I found this book to be very beneficial to me in my studies to become an acupuncturist and oriental medcine practioner. Giovanni MacIocias' book has long been considered THE standard text book for anyone involved in the modality of Oriental Theory and Medicine.
Clarity and insight that is all too rare inan unusual and challengingtopic.
The sheer depth and breadth of the clarity and insight about Traditional Chinese Medicine that comes through this book with such ease for a reader is a wonder.Strong praise, yes; but all too often these subjects are obscure...and even good books usually only *start* to give people new to the subject insight as well as good, foundational knowledge.

Good reference, if you use common sense.
I just got my exam scores back and I got a 118, a composite percent score of 78 for the ADN program section I'm interested in, I'm not completely sure of my school's minimum standard, but the numbers look good to me. This book was helpful in getting me there. It contained very good information and practice questions that were very close in format to the real exam questions on the test. Having said that I say that this book is a valuable TOOL, not an answer book. You have to know the material in advance and then this book will be a great review for you. The formating is orderly and the summaries at each section are great for a brush up of the subject. i had an amazing teacher for medical dosage, and he recommended this book ( the department actually assigned a different book). this book was great, it makes learning fool proof. everything is explained in full, clear detail and makes it for an easy A grade.
Excellent book!
This is the book we used for my BSN program Dosage Calculation class and I thought it was great.It starts you from the beginning (fractions, ratios, etc) and goes from there.There is no need for a teacher when using this book, it explains things very well and in a simple, easy to read/understand manner.Excellent for the beginner.

Excellent
There is a lot of excellent material in this book. Yes, of the 400 pages, "only" 230 are the main text and 140 pages are model reports. I would have bought the book just for the main text. The model reports are worthy extras. Not to mention the 20 pages of "advice from the trenches".
It's not too late to learn a few excellent things!
There are only a few "how-to" books for the person who must give a learned or "expert" opinion on legal issue. Most are notably less than satisfactory. In my opinion, Babitsky and Mangraviti have tackled one of the most difficult aspects about being an "expert," that of writing a defensible report. The messages in their treatise are quite clear. "Don't commit something to paper unless you can support it with documentation!" "Write the report when you feel you fully understand the issue and not when the attorney says you are ready!" And perhaps more important, "Leave the adverbs and adjectives for your next novel!" Writing and Defending Your Expert Report

A smart tool to review pertinent info for both the exam and clinical practice
I passed the Family Practice exam and this book was a great help! She knows how to present the right amount of appropriate information to make it useful rather than overwhelming. The summaries and tables were a big big help. I would also recommend this as a review book for anyone who just wants to brush up their basics for clinical practice.

Superior to other References
The Drug Information Handbook for Advanced Practice Nurses is the Nurse Practitioners premiere drug reference.Drugs are arranged alphabetically by both generic and brand name.Each drug is discussed at it's generic listing.Brand names give the generic name and page number allowing quick reference.The content is very encompassing with nearly all new and old drugs referenced. The usual categories of drug name, therapeutic category, use, etc are included.I find the section on patient information and instruction most helpful in discussing agents with patients. Read more

Must Have for A&P Students
This is a great resource for anyone in A&P. Most topics are easy to follow and to understand. There are a few errors (or, that's what my A&P instructor told me), but not enough to worry about. I love Marieb's writing style. She also includes tons of pictures and charts. I love this book and it's going to be a wonderful resource once I'm a nurse!

Great for A and P students, must buy
I used this book for both my Anatomy and Physiology class in undergrad.I found this book to be pretty easy to understand.Of course, at first it is overwhelming to know how much you have to remember for the test.At least, writing style of this book made A and P easier to learn.The material is presented in organized fashion.However, if you really want to know the type of questions asked on college Anatomy and Physiology Exams get the following which is on amazon: Anatomy and Physiology Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers with Explanations Volume 1(ISBN: 0971999619) and Volume 2 (ISBN: 0971999627).These two helped me to get A's on my exams.The textbook and the two study guides are well worth the money since they helped me to pass with high grades the first time.I was recommened the study guides from my cousin who used them for his A and P class and found them to be great for test preparation.I give each book 5 stars. ... What a gem!

not as boring as it looks
After The Third Policeman and The Turn of the Screw, I thought this would be a snoozefest, but it was actually very interesting.I'm not sure who left it or why (do I sound paranoid? I don't mean to sound paranoid), but I think the information may prove useful down the road....

There are some nice features of this book, but....
Chapter outlines would improve this book, rather than just objectives listed in the beginning of each chapter. Sometimes in the headings, subheadings, you get lost on to where you were going with all of it. Great key concepts in the back, it would also be nice if there was a glossary in the back.
Epitomizes basic nursing
I'm surprised by others' negative reviews. My friends and I think this is the best text book on basic nursing ever published. It covers everything one could want to know for basic nursing, including exact procedures for injections, IV's, surgical procedure, etc. It encompasses nursing history, ethics, laws, develpment, everything! Our nursing program doesn't go in the order of their chapters, so we just go to the chapter that applies. I use it for every class I have, whether or not it's an "assigned" text book. You could read it and literally have all the basic skills needed to be a beginning nurse. Um...did I mention I love this book?

One of the best nursing texts this student has encountered so far ...
I've been through a lot of textbooks on my journey to and through nursing school, and Wong's Essentials is, without doubt, one of the very best! -- Thorough, concise, up to date ... I'm planing on keeping my copy around as a reference even after I've passed the NCLEX. I wish that I could say the same about most of the other nursing texts I've been assigned thus far.

WONG'S ESSENTIALS OF PEDS
Great book!I like the format.It is an "easy read" next to other text books.Very clear and concise.I had no problem find the information I needed for my PBL's (problem based learning) in this book.I have not used the EXCURSIONS program, but am anxious to use it. In glancing through the workbook, the computer program is set up like a hospital.You are given patients and must determine their treatment/care.The workbook has sections for you to work through.This is not a requirement for my program, but I think it will be an asset.

The Virtual Clinical Excursions was required for my peadiatric nursing class.I would not recommend it unless it is required.It is kinda neat at first because you click on the hospital entrance, click on the elevator, click on the floor you want to go to.But it is slow to navigate.You watch a nurse practitioner do assessments and look through virtual charts.There's just not that much to learn from it. ... Nursing Care Plans: Nursing Diagnosis and Intervention
This is a very good book for care plan help. Not alot of psychosocial but has an online resource that will help you too.

This book saved me in nursing school! Every semester my teachers kept a copy of my nursing plans to show future students. My friends struggled with care plans, but this book made it easy for me. Highly recommended!

If you are a nursing student, you NEED this book...
I am a senior nursing student and this book is a GODSEND for care plan assignments and as a supplement for class lectures. Organization by medical diagnosis rather than nursing diagnoses helps by including pathophysiology and disease-specific nursing interventions. Interventions are listed very thoroughly with clearly explained rationales. This book is also a great tool for clinical though its size makes it somewhat cumbersome to carry around all day. Excellent NCLEX-RN review. Simply the best!!
I graduated in 2000 and tried the NCLEX 4 times. I tried Kaplan, Lippincot, Mosby, you name it non of them helped. Kaplan was way too simple and wouldn't explain enough strategies. Lippincot and Mosby where too complicated and not user friendly. By just buying the Strategies for success and Comprehensive Review books from Saunders and creating a good study plan was able to finally pass on my fifth attempt stoping the computer on the 75th question. The way these books explain the strategies are so good that you will get to the point where if you don't know the answer, by learning the strategies you will choose the correct answer by elimination. But the best key for success is determination and avoiding procrastination. Oh, also... practice, practice, and practice questions until you drop. At least 100 to 200 questions a day!!!

Saunders NCLEX
I have purchased 6 Reviews for the NCLEX and this is by far the best book. This book has everything in outline form and the questions are very helpful because you are able to select a specific area of study, such as OB/GYN, Respiratory, Endocrine,Surgery, ect...

A MUST FOR EVERY NURSING STUDENT!!!
I got this more than halfway during nursing school. I wish I had gotten it sooner. It's very comprehensive and covers everything the NCLEX will. It's organized well and explains complicated topics very well. It often goes along with my Lewis Medical Surgical book (same publisher) and has great graphics and charts. Very useful. I haven't taken my boards yet but I'm confident this will help. I plan to read it cover to cover in May-June. The CD also offers great rationales and a plethora of great questions. Must read, for Nurse Practitioners & students
Great book which provides definitions and state-by-state breakdowns of important concepts, such as collaboration, prescriptive authority and SCAs.

2nd edition
I found Carolyn Buppert's second edition of Business Practice and Legal Guide to be very helpful. The additional chapters are useful for my practice and for research on a state wide level. I would recommend this book to nurse practitioners and students of the profession. It is proving to be a valuable resource for improving NP practice in Alabama. Be sure to get the second edition (2003/2004)as the first was published in 1995.

Information is outdated
As a grad student interested in starting my own practice upon graduation, I found this book to be useless. It has been reprinted by another publishing company and its original copyright date is 1999. Between then and now - 2004 - a lot of things have changed.Therefore, I would recommend that anyone who requires current information should look elsewhere.This is a very expensive book as is not helpful at all!!! ...
