This is an easy to read text for Psych Nursing. I've found it helpful...It doesn't seem to give great detail on psychopharmacology, but it is still helpful.I like that it is a paperback version. I received the book very quickly.Good service.

Must read for behavioral neurologists
I won't contribute a lengthy review here...Dr. Dawson's review above is quite comprehensive.I'm a clinical neurologist with an interest in cognitive neuroscience and dementia.I thought the book was excellent.Mesulam's first chapter on neuroanatomy, presented from the viewpoint of a behavioral neurologist, was particularly illuminating.Anybody with an interest in behavioral neurology shoudn't hesitate to carefully read this great book!

An Outstanding Review of the Neurological Basis of Behavior
I first became aware of M.-Marsel Mesulam's work at a Harvard sponsored Behavioral Neurology conference more than a decade ago.Several of the co-authors of this book including David Bear, Antonio Damasio, Hanna Damasio, and Elliot Ross also presented at that conference.I obtained a copy of the first edition of Principles of Behavioral Neurology shortly afterwards.The goal of the original book was to provide introductory information about several important areas in behavioral neurology.Since that time I have continued to follow the work of this group of physicians and scientists and have benefited greatly from their insights into human consciousness, cognition, and behavior.I looked forward to the second edition of this book.Read more

Great book for introductory mental health nursing
We used this in my psych/mental health theory class.I really liked this book.It's written on a level that was easy enough to follow but still gave me a strong base to draw from in clinical.Also, because it had little vignettes throughout each chapter, I found that it didn't bore me to death like nursing textbooks often do.I also like how It included great info on both older meds (i.e. the ones that they will still be testing on for NCLEX) as well as newer meds that I actually saw on the floor.Read more

Altho a difficult read this is a great teaching text
This text provides informative and up to date information regarding a broad range of drug related topic.Althought the reading level is not easy, the information is extremely useful for drug counselors.The information presented regarding psychopharmacology provides an excellent base of preparation for the certification test used in many states.I highly recommend this text as well as many of the web site exercises. ... First disappointment on made incredibly easy book.
I'm a fan of made incredibly easy nursing book series. So far they provided me with great resources to help me study for my classes. However, I find this book below standard comparing with the other incredibly easy books. In psychiatric nursing, we focused more on client-nurse relationship and communication, and this book failed to accomodate that section which was the essential and core parts of psychiatric nursing. Your best bet is to stick to your textbook and don't bother buying this guide book. It only focuses on medication. Great Book
As a nursing instructor, I found this book very helpful in educating my students about pharmacology.It laid a good foundation for an introduction to pharmacology for each body system.My students loved the setup of the chapters and the bullet point format.

okay, but overpriced
this is a very good book for introducing body/mind health issues. it covers a lot of territory. only thing is, is the references. the references used in this book are mostly from "pop" magazines such as psychology today, time, u.s. world, readers digest (!), etc. i personally do not consider these publications too legit, but that is my opinion. i got this book through the local library, i would recommend you do the same to see if you want to shell out the big bucks. or get it used, there are a lot of copies for sale.

Poorly edited
This book needs more editing than any other book I have ever read. Poor editorial quality seems to be a hallmark of books published by Lippincott. (Mosby is pretty bad too. Saunders is much better.) Best mental health nursing textbook
This textbook makes mental health nursing comprehensive and fun to learn.The concepts are well defined and there are lots of practice situations.It is easy to read and not too dry and boring.The CD was excellent for reviewing and studying and I would recommend this as a main textbook for mental health nursing.

A Helpful Guide
Sociologist David Karp shares the insights gleaned from over 60 interviews of those who have loved ones suffering from the ravages of mental illness. He pieces together excerpts of these interviews to illustrate the different ways mental illness affects the lives of families and friends. Those interviewed share how they attempt to cope with such issues as personal feelings of guilt, the societal stygma associated with mental illness, and the frustration of dealing with a bureaucracy that is not always responsive. At the core of many of the interviews is a redeeming theme of hope. Karp's thesis is that the moral boundaries of caregiving necessarily shift as the mental illness emerges over time, and that it is imperative to balance the needs of the mentally ill person with the needs of those who provide care and support.Karp reminds readers of the 4 C's: (1) I did not cause it, (2) I cannot cure it, (3) I cannot control it, (4) all I can do is cope with it.

an amazing book
This is the first book I've read that describes my experiences of living with mentally ill family members so precisely. It is a must read for anyone living with or caring for a mentally ill loved one.David Karp has tapped into a secret well of pain and love and compassion that needs to be brought to the collective consciousness of our society.

At last, someone who understands what it's like.
Reading this book was such a relief.Dealing with a mentally ill family member is so hard to explain to someone who doesn't share the experience.People would tell me, "You look like you have the weight of the world on your shoulders."I just couldn't find the words to express what it was like to care for a family member who was severely depressed and psychotic until I read this book.Rereading it helped me see that it was not only OK but necessary to set boundaries to preserve my own mental health.Fortunately for my family, once I set boundaries, things changed dramatically for the better.The ill person in my family saw that I was serious about maintaining my own boundaries and actually started to get better.I realize that we might be the exception, and not the rule.

Healing the Unaffirmed:Recognizing Emotional Deprivation D
I would highly recommend this book to anyone even though they are not suffering from emotional disorder but could understand others better.This book has changed how I feel about myself, and I can finally understand and identify with so many things that didn't make sense as to why I was feeling so badly about myself and had several depressions.A plus for anyone's library.I have bought one for my brother as I'm keeping mine as a reference.

An excellent book revealing the importance of unconditional love and affirmation in one's life. Baars & Terruwe describe the discovery and symptoms of Emotional Deprivation Disorder -- a syndrome which results from a lack of unconditional love and emotional strengthening in one's life. EDD manifests itself with symptoms such as feelings of loneliness, insecurity, insignificance, and worthlessness. Unaffirmed persons generally feel unwanted, unloved, inferior, depressed, afraid of the world, oversensitive, unlovable, and unable to make friends and relate to others. This results in an emotional prison which is only able to be opened from the outside -- by another person giving unselfish, unconditional, authentic love. To be healed, the individual must feel worthwhile to another person, loved, and understood.
