Quickly settles disputes, answers questions, a "MUST" for all home care nurses & their management teams !!!!
I have the 4th edition (at this time is the most recent edition in print) and as a psych home care nurse, this little, portable wealth of knowledge has helped me validate to management, as well as to public health and other surveyors, the range in situations that qualify "homebound status" for psychiatric patients.Throughout the book there are samples provided to support a variety of situations that help the nurse better understand, and therefore more accurately report, on each sector of the OASIS forms.Medicare regulations are explained in detail, and I learned information that I had not known in the 14 years I have been doing mental health home care nursing.The manual provides a history and background of homecare, its evolution, provides an overview of documentaion, including the importance of coding, and its significance in home care.Also, valuable tips on improving the nursing visit, setting achievable goals, managing the case, and the guidelines for care for all the home care disciplines, are provided, so the nurse can be knowledgable regarding the roles of the other disciplines.There is a great resource section at the end of the book, and home care definitions, roles, and abbreviations are delineated in this manual as well.All home care codes are listed.

A core book, with a'lot of problems.............
I'm a few short weeks away from taking the NAB exam to become a licensed nursing facility administrator.This book was the core text for the 5 courses required for licensure (at least it was where I attended, anyway.....to be more specific, it was the only textbook required for all 5 courses) - - a little disturbing when you think about it.

Mosby's Textbook for Long-term care Nursing Assistants
I bought this book along with other recommended reference booksfor CNAs, and in my opinion this one is the best.It is absolutely a pleasure to read, easy to follow procedures, great color pictures and illustrations.Very user-friendly format.I was actually looking forward to study time using this book. Out of date in body mechanics/transfers/safety
As a nursing instructor working closely with rehab we found this book out of date, with no changes in transfers, body mechanics that have been updated for safety throughout the years. The demos show transfers with staff using poor body mechanics, leaning over residents, not using lower legs using lower back muscles. Moving a person to the side of the bed technique demonstratess segmental movement taking the resident out of body alignment. There are up to date techniques for this. Mercury thermometers are no longer used. A two person transfer to the wheelchair in this book involves picking up the resident from the back and lifting with someone in the front with the legs. if a resident needs this then a hoyer a must. For back safety! The Essentials of Nursing Assistants by Mosby Second Edition, includes the same outdated pictures and demonstrations.

As a teacher of nursing assistants, I find the book to be the most helpful.Easy reading, descriptive drawings for the procedures they must learn and practice.I am looking forward to an addition of a "student Workbook".Although this textbook does has excellent chapter reviewswith practice questions and answers.The State exam is 100 questions longand this helps them with not fearing answering multiple choice questions. ... Novel and inspiring
Anyone planning to place their family member in a nursing home should read this innovative book first.They author's insightful, yet relatively simple ideas show how a well designed nursing home can be a welcoming, life affirming place for your loved one to live.I am a legal aid hotline attorney and own an medical supply business and often discuss nursing home related issues with my clients and customers.I found this book eyeopening and educational.If your relative is already in a nursing home, give the director a copy of this book.

Caring For My Mom-A Daughter's Point Of View.......
The activities director at my mother's nursing home(Tn.) brought this author and his book's to my attention. The nursing home administrator is currently having the entire staff read this line of book's(The Eden Project). I ordered "Life Worth Living" and "Learning From Hannah", because I want to be a part of what will make mom's life and other's a better place to be. I started reading "Life Worth Living" and was honestly amazed about how educational this paperback really was. Not only is this book easy to understand, it's extremely interesting! I can only pray that some day all nursing home facilities realize how beneficial the "Eden Project" really is.

A Must-Read For Caregivers!
Caregiving usually doesn't happen gradually. Families are often thrust into the situation because of a crisis, without any experience on how to manage the overwhelming stress, responsibilities, legalities, and medical aspects. Gary Barg has done an excellent job sorting it all out with 'The Fearless Caregiver', guiding the reader through the maze. Very easy to read, motivating, empowering, and highly recommended! A Must-Read for all Caregivers!
It is about time that someone tackled the issues that caregivers face.It can often be a lonely and confusing time.I was a caregiver for my mother a few years ago and looked everywhere for a book like this.I needed something to walk me through all of the things I didn't understand.This a well-crafted, easy to read and understand book that all caregivers should read.I wish it had been available five years ago!I recommend it highly.

I recently purchased this book by Gary Barg. It is a terrific source for all caregivers and has every aspect that needs to be addressed in it. It takes you through every part of caregiving, from how to take care of yourself to attending to legal matters promptly. Excellent, affordable, comprehensive

Assisting in Long-Term Care third edition
The authors seem to out do themselves with each new edition that comes to press.Most text books are out of date before they go to press and certainly before the instructors can make their lesson plans for the students.By the instructor using the work book and the guide with this text you will have an unbeatable combination.Simple language and the technical blend and the student is able to comprehend with minimum difficulty.The previous editions have retired to become reference texts and so will the Third Edition when the Fourth Edition becomes available for this Instructor of a Certified Nursing Assistant Class at our local Technical College.

This book opened my eyes to the new challenges I am going to face as a Home Health Case Manager. A job at one time I thought was going to be a breeze.
