23 year survivor
I think this is a great book, now we just need a book on finances and how to plan for lifes events like college, buying a home, and retirement planning.

18 Year Survivor and Counting!!!
I am an 18 year survivor of Osteoganic Sarcoma and I found this book to be one of the best and informative books I've ever read. I read things that I didn't even know about my disease or the long term late effects due to the chemotherapy I received. I will admit, at times it was TOO much information, but it was all factual and there were things that I read that I had to come to term with. I have an appointment at a Late Effects Clinic in a few weeks, and I am eager to get on with the rest of my life. Must Have Resource for Survivors!
This book is what every survivor, their parent(s) and thier doctor needs! It is comprehensive and well laid out...I love how I can easily find information on areas of concern I have regarding my son's survival. It has come in handy during follow up appointments to ensure my son is receiving the proper long term care. There is a compact card in the back of the book where all information about the child's treatment can be recorded so the child will have easy to access, concise information regarding their surgeries, chemotherapy drugs, radiation amount and type, etc. I know this will be an indispensible tool for my son as he grows up. concise and practical
Along with Shirley Ottos' Oncology Nursing, the Core Curriculum, with it's concise outline format helped me study for and pass my OCN exam.The 'core' will accompany me on my unit for quick, easy reference.

Excellent Oncology Certification study book
I used this book, and the Study Guide for The Core Curriculum for Oncology Nursing textbook, as well as the OCN 3 exam booklets from ONS, and did really well on the OCN Exam that I took in Washington D.C., April 17, 2002.This book helped me so much on being able to pass that test. It is set up exactly like the OCN Test Blueprint. I would study and work my way through each chapter and then test myself in the study guide book, and then I would test myself on one of the OCN Exam booklets, and then I would go through the book again.

You MUST buy this to pass the certification test
Truly this is your bible for passing the National Oncology Certification Test. This and the Q and A study guide and some practice tests directly from ONS were all I used to take the test this fall. All of us at my work place who used these same materials passed. You really don't need anything else. The only problem is the book is presented in an outline form which makes for difficult reading for pleasure's sake alone but good for studying. Also a good reference book. ... Read more

Cancer Nursing: Principles and Practice
This book is the bible to oncology nurses.It starts at the beginning of time to give you background on cancer, but it also goes in depth to describe each specific disease and as the disease progresses what signs and symptoms to be on the watch for.I found this book to be extremely informative for anyone who wants to know every thing there is to know about cancer.It is an easy read book that is up to date on diseases, clinical trials, drug company pt assistance, as well as listings for oncology support groups..I showed this book to an AOCN who stated this was the most informative easily digested book she has seen. a bit heavy on the christianity
The book has some practical(although somewhat obvious) advice. However, much of the book is dominated by references to God, Jesus Christ, to praying, to things like making a poster of a scripture saying etc.If you are not a Christian, you may not relate to this book.

Encouraging
I found this book full of ideas to help a friend or family member going through the trauma of cancer.The author gives her personal experience with exherts from her diary and relates how she was helped during hercancer treatment. I also liked the way Pamela related her helpfulsuggestions in a practical way, stating what to do and what not to doduring different stages of cancer treatment and recovery. It certainly gaveme a better understanding of the cancer patient and how I may be able tohelp.

An inspirational, informative and resourceful book.
Facing Cancer Together is a wonderful little book that is inpiring to read.At one time or another, all of us will be affected by cancer, either personally or through family or friends.The author gives personalexamples of her own struggles and triumphs.She also incorporatesinspirational quotes and scriptures throughout the book.Read more

Highly Recommended
This is an excellent source of information, given at an appropriate level of detail: not too technical, yet comprehensive enough to be useful.I first purchased it when my mother was diagnosed with cancer and I'm now revisiting it since my son was diagnosed with cancer.Part Five of the book describes treating the common cancers and covers over 51 types of cancer.At the end of each of the 51 sections is an incredibly helpful subsection "The Most Important Questions You Can Ask". For my mother's treatment, I brought the book with me during the doctor's consultation and asked each question that was listed.It opened the door for honest, realistic communication between the doctor, my mother and our family on a host of issues.I intend to bring the book with me for the doctor's consultation with my son.If you or a loved one has cancer, I highly recommend this book.It will serve as a valuable guide and help you to stay focused and informed when the riot of emotions threatens to overwhelm and incapacitate you.

A Comprehensive and Readable Book on Cancer
I received a an earlier edition of this book in 1991 when I was diagnosed with colon cancer and found that the information on cancer was presented in such a way that most people could understand. Since that time, whenever I hear of someone having cancer, I buy a copy of the book and give it to them. The book is very comprehensive and besides covering all the different sites for cancer as well as treatment, it is well illustrated and has many references.

Nursing Oncology Secrets
I have provided my research team with this reference book. We all have differing backgrounds and are responsible for abstracting medical records of cancer patients. Our credentials range from MD, RN, CTR, MIS. This book has been most useful to us all - in particular the Chemotherapy data. We hope there is a new edition in the works since therapy changes rapidly, in part we hope as the result of our data collection.

What a find!
I've worked on a med-surg/oncology unit for a little more than a year now and this book has really helped me out, especially in regards to chemotherapy administration and side effects.It contains a wealth of information that I haven't been able to find anywhere else (from one source).There are chapters devoted to different types of cancers, as well as chapters on radiation, biotherapy, bone marrow transplants, and palliative care.I can't recommend this book highly enough -- perfect for oncology nurses!

Eyes Wide Open
Its nice to understand the origins of the AMA and all the regulations placed on holistic medicine.This is an excellent study of a pioneering effort to battle allopathic ritual. Hoxsey is unstoppable on what seems to be his mission from God, and Ausubel documents it thoroughly.An excellent read, showing lots of research.
What an Expose!
This book had me riveted from the very first pages. The amount of work and research that went into this book proves, at least to me, the dedication Kenny Ausubel had for getting the full facts on both sides of the medicine involved -alternative and traditional. His deep research left me with even less confidence in traditional scientific medicine than I already had, which wasn't much except for acute care. My already very low opinion of the AMA, FDA, and big pharma was only confirmed and strongly convicted after reading this book. I have been recommending this book to everyone and that includes my online radio show audience. I very highly recommend everyone read this book so you can be informed to make the decisions for your own health.
A must read!
I really enjoyed this book.I know people who have benefitted from Hoxsey treatment so that is why I was drawn to this book in the first place.It is very interesting to me that Hoxsey and his 17 clinics were pushed out of the United States.It seems that anything that wont make the pharmaceutical companies any money, is going to be targeted and yes, Hoxsey treatment was, even though it was helping people.In the response to the person who gave one star and claims they are making millions of dollars.The 3500 dollar is a LIFETIME charge.If you get cancer again you can go back for treatment.Here 3500 dollars will get you ONE emergency room trip and an x-ray. The doctors at the Biomedical Center in Tijuana are actual medical doctors and they are not receiving Mexican minimum wage.Also, once you arrive you go through testing. They take your blood, they have labs, x ray machines and most other medical technology for testing cancer.Those things cost money.It is not quite the money making scheme you make it out to be.All I know is 2 weeks on the Hoxsey diet and my tumors were gone, when the doctors here told me I had to have them surgerically removed.5 years later I have never had surgery.:) ... Gentle and enlightening
I have been a fan of the writing of Elisabeth Kubler-Ross since college.She has a writing style which is tender, kind and honest.As with all of her other books you will find answers to your questions and feel comforted by her words.

A straightforward and compassionatefollow-up to On Death and Dying.
Questions & Answers on Death and Dying is an extremely helpful resource to those who are bereaved or are on the cusp of being so. It is also a good introductory book, as was its predecessor-On Death and Dying-to the area of counseling psychology, specifically thanatology, the study of death and dying, for there are many issues in the dying process that are addressed: nonverbal symbolic language, prolongation of life, sudden death, suicide and terminal illness, fear, faith and hope to old age and just plain coping. Encompassed in the very latter, coping-wise, is not simply the patient and family but also the medical staff. The dynamics of dying have a process and to witness a loved one going through that process is obviously painful; it is the agonizing but inevitable hurt that no one wants to go through. But it can and will make the living stronger. This work in particular is helpful in many respects, because it is not necessarily a "how-to" guide on how to grieve or cope; it simply tries to answer the most fundamental and frequently asked questions that people have in respects to death and dying, i.e. emotional and physical pain, loneliness, anger against God and healthy people and finding some caliber of meaningfulness in their life while simultaneously being in the throes of the dying process. The questions asked are sincere, moving and eloquent. The dam of curiosity is opened, and Elizabeth Kubler-Ross eloquently answers all questions, even ones we would not even think of asking. Her insightful and kindhearted responses go to the core of what we're all essentially curious about; she herself admits that in doing this work, it has created a religious belief system that she believed was nonexistent, as one question illustrates: "In all your research on death, what is your personal belief of what happens after death?" "Before I started working with dying patients, I did not believe in a life after death. I now do believe in a life after death, beyond a shadow of a doubt." What is so nice about this book is that it is a gap filler to the first book. What Elizabeth Kubler-Ross started with in On Death and Dying, the general public-the living and the dying (by their questions)-completed with Questions & Answers on Death and Dying; it went full circle, and it reads as such. The Straight Scoop on Rare Lymphomas
Detailed information on lymphomas of the skin is extremely rare.Actual diagnosis is very hard as patients go from doctor to doctor.This book, while aimed a bit more towards professionals, is still is a wealth of information for the patient or loved one who looks for information on cutaneous/skin lymphomas when it is not obtainable elsewhere.
