5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best nursing texts this student has encountered so far ...
I've been through a lot of textbooks on my journey to and through nursing school, and Wong's Essentials is, without doubt, one of the very best! -- Thorough, concise, up to date ... I'm planing on keeping my copy around as a reference even after I've passed the NCLEX. I wish that I could say the same about most of the other nursing texts I've been assigned thus far.

5-0 out of 5 stars WONG'S ESSENTIALS OF PEDS
Great book!I like the format. It is an "easy read" next to other text books.Very clear and concise.I had no problem find the information I needed for my PBL's (problem based learning) in this book.I have not used the EXCURSIONS program, but am anxious to use it. In glancing through the workbook, the computer program is set up like a hospital. You are given patients and must determine their treatment/care.The workbook has sections for you to work through. This is not a requirement for my program, but I think it will be an asset.
2-0 out of 5 stars time comsuming, not much learning.
The Virtual Clinical Excursions was required for my peadiatric nursing class.I would not recommend it unless it is required. It is kinda neat at first because you click on the hospital entrance, click on the elevator, click on the floor you want to go to.But it is slow to navigate. You watch a nurse practitioner do assessments and look through virtual charts. There's just not that much to learn from it. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars really a perfect pic
This book really helped me though out my preceptorship in the operating room. I was thrown in to this unit as a nursing student. the facility had never taken on senior nursing students in a long term segment (7 weeks) and didn't have any idea what to teach me or what to do with me. My preceptor handed me this book and by the end i was able to circulate and scrub on minor cases with complete confidence in what i was doing. it is concise in some areas, and detailed where it needs to be, gives great explinations and rationals. the only problem i found was the different tools. The west coast and the east coast have different names for the instruments, and the ones named in the book are more consistant with the names in the west. but other than that. love love loved it

5-0 out of 5 stars Alexander's Care of the Patient in surgery
Many years ago I bougt this book. Now I have a new version. This book is very helpful to me. I would recomend it for everybody who work in operating room.

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy to follow and understand for the NRP novice
Studying for my renewal for NRP proved to be as easy as the initial class with the cd-rom. I have extremely limited contact with this pt. population, but I am able to easily recall the information attained through this text/multimedia. Although nothing substitutes actual "hands-on," instruction or experience, this will provide a valuable asset for the ACLS/PALS impaired.

3-0 out of 5 stars has its ups and downs
The book has absolutely everything you need to know word-for-word to get certified in NALS. It comes from more of a nursing perspective so little details like how to operate the jackson-reiss and anatomy of the airway will be extremely redunant for respiratory therapists.5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent and Improved Version
Text flows well and I was able to ace the course.Great reference to keep in your locker at work for review, too ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Really useful book
I found this book to be really resourceful and up to date. Definitely recommend to others.

5-0 out of 5 stars orientation
This is a very good teaching tool for RN's new to a NICU, and also a reference for experienced NICU RN's. The 2002 version includes some added information.

5-0 out of 5 stars only review book you must have!
I began my 6 week summer o/b class 10 days after giving birth to my baby girl. Of course a newborn takes up a lot of time, and fortunately someone recomended me this book. This book is so excellent that I hardly read my lecture book. Everything you need to know is clearly explained and straight to the point. If it wasn't for this book I might not have passed my course. I was nursing my baby with one arm, and the other holding this book and reading. I read and read... and I passed my class. A++ book

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
Great review book. I think it's a must for any student in mataernity nursing. This book gives you the 'meat and potatoes' of what you need to know.Very thorough.Good in depth descriptions on rationales.

5-0 out of 5 stars A necessary text for nursing school
This is a classic textbook, and I've heard from many other nursing students at other universities that this is the text that they used, as well. Especially good if your prof touches on something and you want/need a fuller explanation. Make sure to get the study guide, though, as it will make all the difference in the world for exams and boards!!!!

3-0 out of 5 stars WOW... SO MUCH!!
It is interesting to have this book because I am in a practical nursing course, yet, my instructor uses this RN based textbook while we were actually required to get another one.Because she was pulling her questions and rationale from Whaley and Wong, I decided to purchase a used one to stay at her level. It is very detailed, and it may have too much information, even for an RN, however, I do appreciate the lay out of the information, diagrams, and nursing care plans that I was able to utilize. They would benefit from editing this book to just give what is needed, because you may get bored.
3-0 out of 5 stars Too much information
Sure, I understand that Pediatrics is a complex field of study, but good grief just give me a summary already. This book is undoubtedly too lengthy for my taste and should definetly undergo some serious restructuring (hence, cutting out some pages) to suit the limited amount of time the typical nursing student has to spare. Good luck if you buy it and good call if you don't. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars NURSING MOTHER WORKING MOTHER
FAST AND ON TIME. GREAT SELLER. WILL DO BUISNESS AGAIN. THANK YOU

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally!-- a nursing guide with one foot in the real world
With an adopted 10-month old at home, my first pregnancy turned out to be twins. I loved my 40+ hour management level job and did not want to leave. I did not think nursing was an option, and quite frankly wasn't that interested in it anyway. This book changed my mind. It is down-to-earth and gave me the grounding I needed to think creatively and yet realistically about what I needed and what my children needed from me. I ended up nursing my twins almost exclusively for 2.5 years. Best decision I've ever made. I highly recommend this book and purchase it for every pregnant mom I know who inquires about nursing and managing a challenging work-filled life.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Guidelines
This book I feel was very helpful to me even though my son was born early and breastfeeding attempts were unsuccessful. The book gives great insight to nursing successfully as well as working successfully while nursing, and I will pass this book to all of my friends that are pregnant and returning to work mothers in the future. I think first time breastfeeding mothers returning to work are very frightened and even intimidated by the thought and really need someone to help lay a timetable down (of course as a baseline, everyones life is a bit different so all will need to make some adjustments). this book really helped to give that needed structure and to let you know it is possible. The only thing I disliked about this book was the amount of talk about co-sleeping and some other opinions that get fluffed around, at times it feels a tid bit pushy, but if you can get past those frequent comments and hint arounds then its no problem. HIGHLY reccomend this book to returning to work mothers. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Essential reading
This should be required reading for any physician caring for the breastfeeding mother or the breastfed baby. With all of the mythology surrounding breastfeeding and the wide range of advice given to nursing mothers, it is essential that practitioners give accurate, informed advice. Reading this book will allow health care professionals to do so.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent and educational for the medical profession
As a gynecologist based in Spain, I found this book extremely helpful while counseling my patients about breastfeeding, and while breastfeeding myself. I think most obstetrical textbooks do not cover enough the aspect of breastfeeding, and numerous questions remain to be answered, some as simple as: both breasts or one breast?. These simple questions, however, are an important source of stress to new mothers. Apart from that, the more "medical" aspects of the book are also exceptional. A must for all medical professionals involved in pregnancy, birth and infant care.

5-0 out of 5 stars Breastfeeding: A Guide for the Medical Profession
I am a IBCLC and work in a NICU with very small premature &/or sick newborns. As a nurse I very frequently use Dr Lawrence's book when there is a conflict with a doctor over the care of our breastfeeding babies.Dr Lawrence's book is compleatly research based and written with authority --- no touchy/feelyall professional. It is a great book to use to study for the lactation exam !!!Get the newest copy date you can find -- doctors respect new information. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars 23 year survivor
I think this is a great book, now we just need a book on finances and how to plan for lifes events like college, buying a home, and retirement planning.

5-0 out of 5 stars 18 Year Survivor and Counting!!!
I am an 18 year survivor of Osteoganic Sarcoma and I found this book to be one of the best and informative books I've ever read. I read things that I didn't even know about my disease or the long term late effects due to the chemotherapy I received. I will admit, at times it was TOO much information, but it was all factual and there were things that I read that I had to come to term with. I have an appointment at a Late Effects Clinic in a few weeks, and I am eager to get on with the rest of my life. A big Thank You to the authors who took so much time doing research and putting their own blood, sweat and tears into such an awesome project!!! Sincerely, Diane Trautman Smith

5-0 out of 5 stars Must Have Resource for Survivors!
This book is what every survivor, their parent(s) and thier doctor needs! It is comprehensive and well laid out...I love how I can easily find information on areas of concern I have regarding my son's survival. It has come in handy during follow up appointments to ensure my son is receiving the proper long term care. There is a compact card in the back of the book where all information about the child's treatment can be recorded so the child will have easy to access, concise information regarding their surgeries, chemotherapy drugs, radiation amount and type, etc. I know this will be an indispensible tool for my son as he grows up. I applaud the authors for writing a much-needed book. This book is a MUST-HAVE for EVERY childhood cancer survivor! ... Read more
