5-0 out of 5 stars Much Improved Fifth Edition.
Any book of thys type that has gone through five editions has to have something going for it, and This book has many. Perhaps the most important is the writing style which is as light and casual as it can be considering the subject. The goal is, of course, to prepare the student for a career. The book combined instructional material with case histories that illustrate how a particular case, situation, or patient was successfully handled. Each chapter starts with a page entitles 'A Nurse Speaks.' Here practicing nurses relate some of their history

5-0 out of 5 stars I have updated to the new edition
I bought the first edition of this book after transfering from a multisystem ICU to a neuro-surgical ICU. I have found it to be a very Nurse friendly book. I have several resources for neuro, some are very complex.Joanne Hickey has put together information on a very cerebral topic that is for Nurses from novice to expert.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love neuroscience-get this book!
The Clinical Practice of Neurological and Neurosurgical Nursing is an excellent overview of the care and management of the neuroscience patient. It's perspective is largely that of neurosurgery/ trauma nursing and is focused predominately on the acute phases of care. This text is arranged topically by disease/ injury process with the introductory chapters oriented towards concerns in neuroscience nursing. The depth and breadth of the material is suitable to meet my needs in the neuro-intensive care unit of the Level I trauma center in which I work. It provides a ready and easy to use reference with solid explantions of disease process, complications, treatment, pharmacology, and nursing considerations. I recommend this text to new nurses in neuroscience at my hospital regularly and I am currently using it to prepare for certification in neuroscience nursing. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars It's great for nursing students!
Being a recent nursing student I have to say I really liked this book. Mary C. Townsend did an excelllent job breaking down the material. It contains nursing diagnosis, chapter summaries, case studies and chapter reviews. It included every aspect of information that made paperwork, careplans, clinical prep-work and studying a bit easier. I would reccomend this book to any nursing student especially if this may be your future field. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful book
By giving you an understanding of how the person with alzheimers views their world, this book helps the caregiver make life a little easier, happier, and more meaningful. It also reduces the stress and frustration of the caregiver because you gain knowledge of how to handle situations that before were a struggle.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent for anyone touched by dementia
Jolene Brackey spoke at the nursing home where I work with patients with dementia. She is an incredible speaker and author. This book has so many wonderful ideas for nursing home workers and people who have loved ones with dementia. It is very reader-friendly and easy to understand. Jolene includes many real life examples to illustrate her ideas. She has a sense of humor and a sense of compassion that radiates with every chapter. I've used her ideas and had amazing success in my job. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn how to appreciate people with dementia. ... Read more

Textbook is excellent. It comes with a disk that has the workbook on it and it is really helpful.

5-0 out of 5 stars a readable text:Essentials of Psych Mental Health Nursing
This is an easy to read text for Psych Nursing. I've found it helpful...It doesn't seem to give great detail on psychopharmacology, but it is still helpful.I like that it is a paperback version. I received the book very quickly.Good service.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good
I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked this for my 3rd year rotation.I typically like more outline/topic organization texts, and I reluctantly bought this b/c other student highly recommended it.And I really liked this book.I have almost exclusively used this for my reading. And while pharmacology is included for each case, I still like to see all the pharmacology in a comparison table. So I had to supplement with an additional text for a more thourogh discussion of pharm-stuff.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great book for Psych
I guess I am a little biased--I love the entire "Case Files" series. As always, this is another outstanding book of teaching cases. Some of the "hints" in the histories given for the cases are a little too obvious, but no complaints other than that.

5-0 out of 5 stars I love the Case Files Series!
During third year of medical school, the way students learn totally changes. The most important information that students retain is going to be about patients they admit, that they see on the wards or work-up while on call. While other study materials give students the "facts," Case Files realizes that the best way for junior and senior medical students to learn is through case presentations.I would say that their format closely resembles the paradigm of how students should learn; a case is presented, discussed, key terms are defined, questions are presented about the text, and the information about the case is summarized. These books almost make it too easy to retain and apply clinically useful information!I used the psychiatry book as a complement to other texts, but it was my sole source of study for ob/gyn.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for introductory mental health nursing
We used this in my psych/mental health theory class.I really liked this book. It's written on a level that was easy enough to follow but still gave me a strong base to draw from in clinical. Also, because it had little vignettes throughout each chapter, I found that it didn't bore me to death like nursing textbooks often do.I also like how It included great info on both older meds (i.e. the ones that they will still be testing on for NCLEX) as well as newer meds that I actually saw on the floor.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Good Resource
This pocket guide has been great! It is filled with very helpful information and it fits right into my pocket, so I can have it with me all day long without lugging a big book around. This pocket guide and the RNotes are truely a great addition to my busy day on the nursing floor.

5-0 out of 5 stars Psych Notes
I highly recommend Psych Notes by Darlene Pederson. It is very complete, concise and accurate. A worthwhile book for both students and seasoned psychiatric nurses as it makes a wonderful quick reference and is very complete. I particularly like the presentation in the Disorders section which addresses signs and symptoms, causes, rule outs, lab tests and interventions. The "cause" sectionaddresses not only the usual and customary "psychosocial" factors but also the pathophysiology.

3-0 out of 5 stars First disappointment on made incredibly easy book.
I'm a fan of made incredibly easy nursing book series. So far they provided me with great resources to help me study for my classes. However, I find this book below standard comparing with the other incredibly easy books. In psychiatric nursing, we focused more on client-nurse relationship and communication, and this book failed to accomodate that section which was the essential and core parts of psychiatric nursing. Your best bet is to stick to your textbook and don't bother buying this guide book. It only focuses on medication. Authors, this is not a medical surgical guide book; it is a psychiatric nursing guide book. Please remember that! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Nursing Oncology Secrets
I have provided my research team with this reference book. We all have differing backgrounds and are responsible for abstracting medical records of cancer patients. Our credentials range from MD, RN, CTR, MIS. This book has been most useful to us all - in particular the Chemotherapy data. We hope there is a new edition in the works since therapy changes rapidly, in part we hope as the result of our data collection.

5-0 out of 5 stars What a find!
I've worked on a med-surg/oncology unit for a little more than a year now and this book has really helped me out, especially in regards to chemotherapy administration and side effects. It contains a wealth of information that I haven't been able to find anywhere else (from one source). There are chapters devoted to different types of cancers, as well as chapters on radiation, biotherapy, bone marrow transplants, and palliative care.I can't recommend this book highly enough -- perfect for oncology nurses!

There is definately some very good information in this book.I guess I was hoping for a quick reference type of layout somewhere in the book.I have to go to the index and look up which illness I want to research plans of care for.I wish they had listed the medical diagnoses and then the possible nursing diagnoses. This has great information though that is pertinent to the care plan for the patient with psychiatric diagnoses.I keep it on my desk at work and refer to it often!
