5-0 out of 5 stars Nursing Theorists and Their Work
I thought the book's content was excellent. I found it easy to follow and it has been an excellent reference book for my nursing class.

2-0 out of 5 stars It was required
Only used it because it was required. Good info I guess, would not just sit down and read it. Helped with school project.

2-0 out of 5 stars Dry as can be
If I knew that this kind of reading was in store, I would not have returned to school. Can't someone make this topic exciting to read about? Not these authors. Maybe no one can make nursing theory exciting. Maybe there is a reason. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Well-Written Text for Beginners
I'm taking my first biostatistics class with W. Daniel's Biostatistics text. It's a good book, but I think it's for more advanced statistics students.Munro's text is more suitable for beginners who have never taken any statistics class. It explains the basic but important statistical concepts in plain English without using much mathematics.Very well written and easy to understand. The exercises at the end of each chapter are well picked. They are short, yet helpful for reviewing the important concepts that have just been covered.

5-0 out of 5 stars Statistical Methods for Health Care Research
A very well-written and helpful statistics book. It was required reading for a course in Quantitative Nursing Research last semester. Overall, the concepts such as t-tests, correlation and regression were explained in relatively simple terms. Examples with answers were found at the end of each chapter and the book came with a data disk. This was the most user-friendly statistics book that I have used so far!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great book
I had a chance to review this book. I think the authors can make us much better understand, particularly one who is about to learn the concept of statistics. You can apply this book with the SPSS program in order to interpret the results. Anyway, I still like the calculation parts which areremoved in this edition (3rd) compared with the last one. I think they canhelp someone, who is very interested in statistics, to understand betterbefore go ahead to use the computer. It's a great book for the beginner. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Textbook
The textbook is required for my doctoral studies in nursing. It is an excellent resource and I highly recommend it to any graduate or doctoral students.

5-0 out of 5 stars Strategies for Theory Construction in Nursing (4th Edition)
This is a classic book on the construction of theory. It is very helpful for the novice graduate student who is starting to get used to the language and world of theory. It provides foundational material on theory development and utilization in practice and research. This book also serves as a ready reference for "seasoned" nurses when reflecting on theory development and modification.

5-0 out of 5 stars Theory Construction
As a beginning researcher in medicine, I was quite surprised to find that medicine is considered an atheoretical science.Perhaps I missed a few classes along the way, but as a family physician, I thought I understoodtheory and theory development. That was until I really started thinkingabout it.After asking several researchers, mentors, and general queriesto other physicians about theory development, I was left with thefollowing:"This is very, very important, but I can't tell you how tostart."Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for all nursing students
This book is written for the Bachelor prepared nursing student. The book has great summaries and references to help write an article for class about nursing.Even though you are probably thinking, why do I need to take research, it is so basic? Trust me the book helps more than you think it will, and it has short chapters that are straight to the point. It is by far one of the easiest books to read in your nursing school curriculum.Read the book, and you will do very well in your class. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great Resource for Nursing Faculty
This book is intended for part-time clinical faculty in nursing programs but it has excellent chapters that can be helpful to anyone teaching in nursing education. It addresses many helpful techniques that experienced clinical educators have used, as well results of research in clinical teaching. The chapter dealing with interpersonal issues in clinical education is especially helpful in addressing the difficult situations that arise with students. The book addresses the context of education from a theoretical perspective and incorporates the legal and ethical issues which impact teaching in the clinical setting. I found this a very helpful resource in the graduate courses I teach in nursing education. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Must have
This book is easy to understand and provides excellent examples to illustrate points.

1-0 out of 5 stars Very superficial
We used this text in a graduate nursing research course. It covers materials superficially and is not useful for planning research, especially qualitative research. The statistics section was particularly useless. While it describes many statistical tests it does not provide the information needed to actually conduct the tests nor does it compare and contrast the usefullness of one test verses another.

3-0 out of 5 stars poorly organized
I have used this text for class and find it to be poorly organized. Specifically, if you approach the chapters as ordered, students feel that the course sequence is redundant, yet because of the global and superficial approach, they still need additional work with basic concepts like measurement, validity, and others. Some of the "middle of the book " chapters seem more like enrichment materials, yet these are presented before core concepts are covered. In the future,I will go back to the tried and true Polit and Hunglar text. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Book description incorrect
The book description and some of the reviews do not refer to this text. The book primarily reviews development of theory and then presents an overview of various nursing grand and middle range theories, followed by theories from biological, behavioral, education, management, and sociology that are useful and applicable to nursing.

1-0 out of 5 stars Index is poor, poor, poor.
Nice text; well-written, but the ridiculous index makes this somewhat of a joke. Whoever wrote the index (looks author-generated?) doesn't know the purpose/function of an index.

2-0 out of 5 stars Theoretical Basis for Nursing
The book was too "wordy". It used a lot of words to say the same thing over and over, to perhaps fill pages for a publisher. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A marvel of philosophical base and practical information.
This book differs from all others on the subject.Evaluation and testingin nursing education has traditionally been presented as an almostmechanical application of rules.Oermann and Gaberson have written acomprehensive practical guide to the subject that is grounded in anursing-relevant philosophical and ethical understanding of the legitimateteaching and warranting process of testing and evaluation in nursingeducation, expressed succinctly in the following: "...professionaljudgments are 'at the heart of' effective evaluations (p.2-3)" and"(R)egardless of the specificity of the standards and criteria usedfor evaluating learners, evaluation remains a subjective process(p.3)."Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely a nursing student must-have
I LOVED this book.It is well written, easy to read with a bit of humor thrown in.I am already finding myself turning to this book again and again as a resource.Along with advice on surviving nursing school and getting the most from your clinical experience, she goes into searching for that first job, resumes, and a little bit of everything.I really think she touches on everything. In addition, she lists many fantastic websites for everything from financial aid to nursing affiliations. She really covers all the bases.I can't say enough about it and think every nursing student should read this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good High Level Overview
This book was a good starting point for me. I'm contemplating a career change to nursing having worked in IT for 19 years.Lots of useful quotes and advice from students, new grads and staff nurses.I liked the high level view and broad scope this book gave me.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great resource for finding your way
This book was completely amazing. Fun to read, extremely informative, lots of information about not only beginning nursing school but getting through until the end! Lots of great quotes, tons of resources (some chapters have a couple dozen helpful websites listed!)and information I use every day.
