Terrible binding
The binding of the thick and heavy book is terrible. Many pages just fell apart about one month or so after I bought it. Also, I found there are some problems with its organization. For example, it is kind of confusing to describe both benzodiazepines and barbiturates together.

Not Awful, Not Great
There are many good things to say about this text. It is through, has great cross-references, and is relatively cheap. Sadly, however, that is pretty much where the positive ends and the negative begins.
Awful
This text is required at my medical school. The text is dense and unapproachable, but that isn't my main complaint-the organization is TERRIBLE. One drug can be covered in multiple different chapters, but none of the chapters really have a great description! For example, B blockers are covered under "Autonomic Drugs", "Anti-Hypertensive Agents", and "Heart Failure Drugs"... just for starters! Anywhere you can use a B blocker, there's a separate discussion. Just give me ONE chapter on B blockers that actually talks about all of their uses!

A must-have!
This little guide may seem confusing at first glance, but it is quite helpful once you figure out how to use it!You'll still need a prescribing reference for dosages, etc. but this gives you a place to start.

A must on the wards
Always a great help for any medical student or resident, especially in primary care. If you're going to be culturing something, you need to know what to treat empirically with until the C&S comes back, and that's where Sanford's is a great help. It's not quite an ID consult, but it works until they show up.

Great daily reference--in clinic and hospital
Great quick pocket reference, use it daily for both out-pt and in-pt infectious disease treatment.Details first line therapy (and includes pediatric doses), and gives concise clinical criteria for back-up choices (eg. treatment failures, associated comorbidities, drug allergic patients).

Won't leave home without it!
I am new at this prescribing thing and seem to have a whole lot more questions than I have answers... The Prescriber's Guide truly is "Essential" ... I have long been a fan of Stahl and his ability to make dry and difficult material come to life and thereby easier to understand ... even makes me laugh ... I can not say enough good things about this book- it offers a wealth of practical "real world" information about prescribing and answers "newbie" questions that typically beget the "you'll learn that with experience" answer. An absolute MUST HAVE for the novice prescriber- thank you Stephen Stahl!

Missing CD.
It's good but it came without the CD and I ordered another one with no luck this time also missing CD.

Another large NAPLEX review
This is another large review book for the NAPLEX.The book may be too detailed to read from cover to cover in time for the exam, but it came free with APhA membership during our final year in pharmacy school.I used this APHA book and the Comprehensive Review of Pharmacy (Shargel) to obtain background information on topics that kept eluding me during practice exams with Appleton & Lange.

Let's learn all the facts.
I don't know, myself, exactly what I think of craniosacral therapy. But I've made a point of searching out the most sceptical material I could find on the subject, and I have read the ENTIRE BCC meta-study on it that was released a few years ago, not just Stephen Barett's opinions on it (which is all that some commenters have read, I think!) This "study of studies" was basically for the purposes of trying to decide if craniosacral therapy should be covered by third-party payers, and it reviewed all studies to date. It basically came up with three conclusions:
Controversial but not quite a quack science
Au contraire Mr. Deveno, everyone knows the cranial rhythmic impulse, like the pulse rate and blood pressure, varies from time to time and from person to person and from measurer to measurer. But this is an aside. A recent article in the respected Journal of Pediatrics, showed that osteopathic manipulation (which included CST) helped in cases of otitis media (i.e. ear infections). What makes CST controversial is the theory that the cranial sutures are being moved and that cerebrospinal fluid motion is being influenced. This is the theory behind CST. For all we know the working mechanism of CST could be completely different. Upledger's book is well written and gives practical advice on the treatment of patients, as well as the current working theory behind CST. He includes not only his variation of the vault maneuvers, but also the classical vault maneuvers developed by Sutherland.By the way it should be noted that Upledger taught CST at MSU-College of Osteopathic Medicine which is consistently ranked as a top 50 medical school by US News and World Report.

Why craniosacral therapy is a quack science ...
In various studies of craniosacral therapy, when multiple practioners are asked to determine the craniosacral pulse rate of a common set of patients they quite consistently fail to agree on rates. But this is an aside, the fact of the matter is that bones of the skull really are fused after a certain age of childhood. Craniosacral therapy has been objectively studied ... and found wanting. Important work if one understands its place
This is an important work, helping to document the validity of herbal medicine. However, it is not an all-encompassing work and obviously isn't referenced. Nevertheless, the German Commission E's method of publishing monographs based on the information gathered from companies, researchers, and practitioners (but apparently kept confidential) serves a useful purpose. It is always helpful to consult this text to get some solid conformation for common traditional uses. Every practitioner and researcher should have this book, though it certainly cannot be used in a vacuum.

Huge Disappointment!
I had hoped this book could be my benchmark for herbal information.What I found was a book that was hard to use with little useful information....Otherwise, Facts and Comparisions' Review of Natural Products is a better choice.

The Most Solid and Dependable Work on the Market
I have worked with herbs for many decades and have shelves and shelves full of works on Herbs and Healing. The German Commission E Monographs is still an often used Reference that in my oppinion belongs on everyone's shelf who works with Herbs. True, it does not cover all that the herbs are capable of and due to lack of proof, many wonderful herbs are not approved, BUT, and this is most important, whatever you find in this book is scientifically proven and you can believe it. I VERY strongly recomend this book, and the CD as well.Whenever you explore a new herb, or need to know facts, check it out in the Commission E Monographs. Then you have a very good outline from where you can start to work with, and together with other herbals get to know and experiment to arrive at your own conclusion. And that is not to mention the inclusion of interaction with other drugs, side effects, mode of administration, active composition for each monograph and different chapters that cover all that is important.A MUST for every practitioner and professional. A MUST for Everyone involved in healing, period.If you can only buy one book on herbs, I would recomend this one. Herbs are gentle and effective healers as a rule. That does not mean that when handeled and prescribed wrong they can't be fatal and dangerous as well.Due to a long time of suppression, there's much information that is doubtful at best, plain wrong and harmful at worst. So even if it's not always approving old favorites, and not mentioning all properties of all herbs, it is an amazing work. Non Nonsense and you can count on everything it says to be true. Five Stars? No way, but that's the maximum available. I would give it many more if I could. But YOU be the judge. Check it out for yourself in a store if in doubt. But don't let this work pass you without giving it a chance. It is truly a treassure. ... Read more

Excellent!
Absolutely the best first book to get on the subject of essential oils.I have purchased a few others, and this is by far, the best in the lot.I take it everywhere.
Useful
There are other reviews that go into great detail about what is in this book. I will only add this and say it has been a useful book in many ways. It has paid for itself in stress relief recipes alone. It is interesting and helpful and has cured what ails my family many times over.
Great book for essential oil blends
I love using this book to compare and contrast with Roberta Wilson's "Aromatherapy: Essential Oils for Vibrant Health and Beauty."The two books are similar in many ways, though I do consider Roberta Wilson's book to be somewhat better.Nevertheless, I'd still recommend having both on hand, as you can learn a lot from both.There are many blends to choose from in Worwood's book, and lots of ways to get ideas to formulate your own blends.I also enjoy the fact that the book is grouped by condition, which makes it very easy to find information regarding specific issues.There's also a lot of background information on both essential oils and the various states of being they address.I do have one gripe, though, and strangely enough, it's not even about her coverage of essential oils.In one of the chapters, she refers to Bloody Mary as Queen of Scots, which just blows me away, as these are two totally different people.I really would have expected a better knowledge of Northern European history coming from a native of that very region.Other than that and Worwood's questionable knowledge of felines where EOs are concerned, I would still recommend this book as a good addition to your essential oil library. ... An easy way to understand a complex process
I work in an organization that supports advanced gene therapy research that may lead to new therapies for chronic and life threatening diseases, but I am not a scientist. As a communicator, I needed to understand the long and arduous journey from discovery to pre-clinical research, to FDA-approved clinical manufacturing, and to human clinical trials. This book was excellent in helping me understand both the research and the regulatory environment.
Broad coverage with little in-depth detail
This book is written to cover a broad range of topics related to the drug discovery and approval process. Since so many topics are covered, there is very little in-depth coverage on any particular topic. It's suitable people who don't have any serious scientific training or experience in the industry. If you are looking for a high-level overview, this is a good book.If you would like more detailed information about any specific topic, you should probably look elsewhere.Some of the explaintions are over simplied in order for the average reader to understand. Much of the material covered in the book can be found in much greater detail by visiting the fda site or googling for the code of federal regulations.But if you do not what the FDA is or what CFR stands for, this book is probably right for you.

Good overview of the drug development and regulatory process

Just a good book..
This book is a good one, but has one little problem, the book doesn't have much coherence because there are too many people writting the book. You can note the difference of redaction between the chapters because were written for different person and that's what make the book very difficult to read, because one chapters are good, but others are very bad.
Clarification about the edition
This is the 10th edition, published in 2001. Not quite as 'out-of-date' as suggested by the previous reviewer. It is, however, dificult to keep these texts current.

Good....but out of date!
"Goodman & Gilman" has been the staple of pharmacology for many years, and with good reason. While I agree with the other reviewers that it is the gold standard, in the "old days" the book was updated about every 5 years, and this one came out in 1996. Given that the book probably took a couple of years to revise, the information is close to 10 years out of date! As is stated in the Notice on p. xviii, "Medicine is an ever-changing science." I love the way the drugs are categorized !!!
The reason why I bought this book was because it was organized by the medications purposes, so all the cardiovascular medications were put together, CNS drugs, etc. ... Then within these categories subcategories (i.e. antihypertensive drugs, anticovulsant drugs, etc.) were grouped. Also, the generic names are in bright red and the brand names listed directly underneath in black. It just makes it so much easier and convenient for me to find the medications I am looking for! There was never any old school, but if there will be then this will be it
A great book based around debunking everything preached before about growing grass and then shows the results of some good growing. It is no longer just about producing a one in a hundred photograph magazine quality plant, but having lots of them and with the potency to back it up.
Well worth getting if you are thinking about growing
This book does not remind me of anything I have read before. It looks a way more professional than most for these types of books. It has a very workable plan to produce the best results in the smallest of spaces to big basement grows if you want. The strategies are clearly laid out and explained in sufficient detail.Readers can find plenty of pictures, diagrams and illustrations with instructions. It is very motivational. The clear and easy writing style should appeal to anybody. Good luck.

A great reference.
Bravo! Finally a book that not only tells gardeners how to avoid wasting your time chasing bugs but also how to end up with a fine canopy of thick buds.
