If all you want is the patient information often handed out by drug stores, this is the book for you -- it covers almost all the prescription drugs on the market.

Great Pharm book
I love this book!It is a great compliment to the text that I am using for my Paramedic class.It was a required text for class, but I really like the book.It is easy to read and the information is not only interesting but easy to understand.
Excellent Reference
This book was required for my pharmacology class for paramedicine.It's an excellent text book, but watch for several misprints on drug dosages, (ex: milligrams instead of micrograms on drips).It made me pretty confused when the book indicated my calculations were incorrect when I knew I had the correct dose.I brought it to the attention of my teacher (retired medic) and he confirmed the misprints.Besides that, and excellent text.

A valid modality
I has some good results with my asthma using the principles and disciples of this book. I adapted the precepts to incorporate the ECK Masters of Eckankar (www.eckankar.org) and have had amazing success. I found the book to be very informative and transformational.

If you can get beyond how strange this sounds...
I've found MAP to be an incredible, unique, effective method of healing, and a gift to the world. It requires a good degree of open-mindedness to get started, and one of the greatest drawbacks of using MAP is that -- though you may be excited and amazed by what the program does for you -- it may be difficult to talk about with your friends without them thinking you're crazy. I remain skeptical and agnostic about *how* this works. I don't know whether there really is such an entity as the Overlighting Deva of Healing (though I'm fascinated with such questions). I don't know if Machaelle Small Wright's explanation of what happens during the program is, in fact, what's really happening. All I know is that this program has worked and benefited me in a very real, powerful, concrete way. For me that's all that matters.

Light Emerging : The Journey of Personal Healing
I have not begun to read this book yet, but it came highly recommended by other spiritual healers.

Another follow up book
I read Emerging Light with some high expectations, having read Hands of Light.This book was a dissapointment to me. It seems that Barbara followed the path of "I wrote one successful book, therefore I can cash in one the craze" that many authors do.There wasn't a lot of really relevant information here, though a few tidbits here and there.When she discusses the cords it didn't seems anywhere near as accurate as when Mark Rich writes about them in Energetic Anatomy.The part about the core star isn't anything I had ever heard of and didn't really resonate with me much. Pretty good ...

THE ENCYCLOPEDIA OF MEDICINAL PLANTS by Andrew Chevallier is a relatively comprehensive source of information about herbal uses for healing.This is not the most recent volume by this author, however.The 2000 version is more comprehensive and includes the most current information about research associated with herbal medicinal uses. Best Source there is for medicinal plant information!!

A Voluminous (only slightly flawed) Mainstay
This book got short shrift in our education even though we bought in in the first year or two. Still a worthwhile reference
When I was in college, we learned the ill-fated Chinese Acupuncture and Moxibustion for exams, but this was the book we actually used in acupuncture classes. We called it the "Shanghai book," as it is an abridged translation of a four-volume set, originally published in Chinese in 1962 by the Shanghai College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, revised in 1974. Since most of our teachers were from Shanghai, this book was the favorite for teaching English-speaking students.Read more

Out of Date?
This five year old PDR Family Guide to Nutritional Supplements, first edition, Dec. 2001, is an excellent consise book and easy to read. However it is out of date when compared with PDR Health on-line. To get started this book is good. To get the latest information from PDR one has to go on-line and combining the two can be confusing. I'll not order until the second edition is released.

I use it in my healing practice, and nursing practice
Note:First of all, there are 2 natural remedy PDRs, one for Nutritional rRemedies and Supplements, and another specifically for Herbal Remedies.You will NOT find herbal info in the nutritional PDR, nor nutritional supplements in the Herbal PDR.

Very Good
Dont own previous books by Paul Stamets, but have read through a bunch. THis book is a really fine addition to the library. Lots of information, lots of color photos, and an enjoyable read. Get it.

this is an incredibly interesting + informative book
This is a well written, interesting book. And mycelium running has more relevance than I ever imagined (if I thought about it at all). In general, I'd ditch science books for literature in 2 seconds. But I just can't put this book down. It's definitely worth your $$$.

The most comprehensive mushroom/fungi book out there
Paul Stamets truly knows the material and has some great insights into the world of growing mushrooms. He succinctly describes how the science of the relatively unknown 5th kingdom (fungi) can be applied to mycoremediation to help unpollute the planet.Even though this sounds like a heavy subject, the material is understandable for people with little scientific or fungal knowledge and helps anybody understand hwo they too can get closer to mushrooms. ... Incredible pocket resource
I cannot imagine practicing without this book in my lab coat. Indispensible information. Allows you to solidly build a case before approaching the physician. Great reference tables and information for solid clinical decision making.

Nice pocket guide
I've used my little handbook for a number of years now and recently purchased copies for my case managers.They have reported they refer to the handbook often and it is kept with them at all times while they are in the field.It is well worth the money.

Simply Fantastic
I purchased this book 2 years ago when I first became a hospice nurse and I have to tell you what a blessing it has been.Not only did it allow me to effectively provide my patient with appropriate pain and symptom management, but it also proved a wonderful teaching guide for the PCP for their patients.Read more

Great Review
These cards are concise and full of high-yield information. As a resident in emergency medicine I am mostly interested in the practical application of the meds, and I found it to be an excellent review. The vignette format is a great aid to remembering the pharmacology in a clinical context, too.

clinical vignettes are great, but the backs of these cards have the info you need.i thought the cards did a great job at hitting all of the high yield info without unnecessary filler.just took step I and was able to answer all of the pharm questions with these cards and first aid alone.

Cumbersome
I bought these flash-card with hopes of avoiding the time-consuming process of making my own.While the cards contain adequate information, I find the "clinical vingette" format cumbersome when simply trying to nail down the basics.That said, I've heard other people like these cards--so there you have it--they're just not my cup of tea. ... Ok, but not the best.
I used this book while on my Fam med rotation during 3rd year of medical school.At the time, there were not many books designed for medical students specifically on FP.The was no First Aid or Blueprints Family Medicine book for example.
excellent, best source for family shelf
Just use this and your set. I had a 4 week rotation in fam med & had not yet had, ob/gyn, peds or IM, but I did well using this text. I only got through half of the text, but did that the night before. I only wish I'd got it sooner.

Questions and Answers
Oodles of questions and explained answers, and it comes highly recommended by my fellow classmates who used it to study for the national shelf exams.(I used Swanson's Family Practice Review and loved it.) I used NMS to a degree but didn't get through all of it.The questions are usually high yield and well explained. One classmate specifically said that this was the only book he used for Family and he aced the exam.I guess that's a pretty good review.See my listmania list for more med school ideas. ... Read more

If you can only buy 1 toxicology reference, make it this one
I found this to be an outstanding and thorough treatment of the entire gamut of toxicology. The book is well organized, with a very logical sequence of chapters. Each chapter is authored by recognized experts in the various subspecialties of toxicology, such as neurotoxicology. The principles and model systems of each specialty are discussed in detail. This text contains no fluff. I recommend it for graduate level students and above, though ambitious undergraduates may find it useful as well. My only suggestions for improvement would be updated figures and a glossary of terms. I sometimes found that authors of the earlier chapters would use terms which were not defined until later chapters. Overall, this is an excellent reference--well worth the price.

That is a good book for the beginner of toxicologist. However, many existed errors may mislead and confuse the beginners. So I recommend that we'd wait for next edition.

DRUG HANDBOOK
HAVE BEEN USING THIS BOOK FOR A COUPLE OF MONTHS-GENERALLY GOOD, HAVE NOTICED SOME DRUGS MISSING OR DIFFICULT TO CROSS REFERENCE...ALSO LACKING IN "ACTION OF MEDICATION"INFORMATION.

Organized presentation, but...
I went to look up Zarontin, and it wasn't in this book (had obscure information under ethosuximide, though). It is a commonly prescribed to control absence seizures. So I'd like to know why this drug wasn't in there. I went to make a suggestion to the publisher, and you have to fill out a questionaire to be a reviewer. I'm not going to go through all that to share a helpful suggestion.
Useful, well-organized & well-written; neat CD for patient guidance
As a physician, I used to turn to the PDR for drug guidance, but it seems that only the profitable [ie, proprietary] drugs are listed there. I've often used my RN wife's NDH, recently replaced by the 2006 version. Try to find niacin (for hypercholesterolemia) in the PDR for instance - whereas the NDH has a compact yet thorough description of indications, dosing, adverse effects and fundamentalpharmacology. The little CD enclosed prepares patient information on some 200 common drugs. All told, this is a neat yet compact drug reference guide. Not inexpensive, but highly recommended. ... Read more
