A good place to find descriptions of genuinely obscure drugs
This book contains references to some drugs that I couldn't find anywhere else.Drugs that are no longer in common use, that are used exclusively outside the US, or that have toxicity levels that are normally unacceptable may still find a listing in Martindale.The index is very thorough.I had only two complaints: 1) I don't understand why some drugs information is dropped when new editions come out --I would rather see the book simply grow, rather than sometimes requiring access to older editions, and 2) it doesn't present molecular structures (sigh).Still, the opportunity to find information that is otherwise simply unavailable (try to find dosing schedules for potassium bromide elsewhere, to pick an example) outweighs any complaints.

Okay, but kind of cumbersome
First of all, I must say that this is an excellent book to get detailed information when you are in a bind in the OR.But the problem I have with this book is that it is sort of in a no-man's-land of materials.If I need the nitty-gritty on a subject, I go to Barash or Miller, but in the OR, I only need to get to the stuff I seem to have forgotten, so I go to Ezekiel. Mass General falls somewhere between too much information for the OR, and not enough information for home use.I've also found it rather difficult at times to find things with the small, cramped print. (Not to mention that it doesn't fit as easily as Ezekiel in the back pocket of your scrubs)
Good for the O.R.

statsitical genetics
There are many basic errors in statistics in this book, such as the concepts of expected value and degrees of freedom. The statistical background of the author should be very weak. From the bibliography (how many publications does the author have?) we can see whether the author is well prepared to write this kind of book.Did Dr. Ron Sederoff who wrote the foreword read the book thoroughly? If so, he should have pointed out those very obvious errors. Of course, Dr. Sederoff should not be responsible for those errors if he has no background in Statistics. I hope the author can check the book thoroughly before it goes to the fourth printing or just withdraw it from the publisher.

Beautiful job
The author of this book defines genomics as the study of whole genomes via the integration of cytology, Mendelian-quantitative-population-molecular genetics with bioinformatics and automated sequencing. It attempts to answer, the author states, such questions as to the physical and chemical requirements of genomes, the possible necessity that genes be located at certain sites to function normally, that particular DNA sequences and structures needed for gene functions, the total number of functional genes necessary for a biological system, and the homology between the DNA sequences of different species. He addresses the book to biologists interested in statistical issues in genomics, for mathematicians in genomics, and for students of genetics. personable and easy to read, this is perhaps the easiest to follow instruction on the subject to date.

Worth reading
An excellent book on the basics of quantum healing.It was written simply enought that I bought another copy and sent it to my 13-year-old grandson; I wish I had started to teach myself how to help others with their pain when I was younger.It's a very practical book, easy to read, easy to follow and easy to put the methods into practice.Thank you, Mr. Gordon, for writing it.

presents clinical trials issues and methodology clearly
This book is very unique. Basic statistical concepts are clearly presented but only those concepts that are important in clinical trials. The author presents all the issues with clinical trials including ethical issues with some historical perspective. Principles of randomization and statistical design are clearly presented. It offers discussion of Bayesian techniques and meta-analyses, cross-over designs and group sequential methods (interim analyses). For statisticians doing clinical research like myself, this is a valuable reference source.

The best start in clinical trial
The amount of knowledge and the scope of this book are the exact need for the first contact with clinical trials. Yet, it is not a simple or superficial text. Instead, it not only will guide the reader through thebasics of trials (and there is so much that is not basic in it) but theauthor points the reader to hundreds of papers and books that arelandmarks. I regard this book itself as one of these landmarks!

Excellent resource for post-graduate training
In my opinion, this is the best book on general principles without going into detail on specific therapeutic areas. I would consider it a must-read for those in clinical pharmacology post-graduate training or those working in clin pharm. However, previous knowledge of pharmacology is needed, as this book is not suitable as a first primer for medical and undergrad students.

Excellent, concise introductory textbook
The new (2nd) edition is a nice update of the original text.It now includes review questions as well as new drug information since the first edition.The text itself is admirably clear and concise, and does a good job of describing the clinical uses of drugs as well as their mechanisms of action.This would be an excellent textbook for an introductory pharmacology course.

Excellent condenced review text, but no test questions
I found this book to be a great up to date (2000) review of pharm.It has just a bit more information than a pure review book, like the lippincott's pharm rewiew.The extra info helps put the drugs more in context to why they work or don't.It does not have questions to test yourself, the questions come in another "companion" book to this, so there is extra expence if one wants that- the only down side (lippincott's has questions in the same book).The class that I'm in is pretty much split on which one they prefer (the questions in the lippincott book sway some). ... Controversial Dental Issue
In widespread use since the 1820s, the most commonly used dental filling material is a compound made by mixing copper, tin, silver, zinc, and mercury, commonly called "silver amalgam." The American Dental Association claims amalgam is safe, but the author counters that as the filling corrodes, mercury, which constitutes about 50 percent of the filling material, is slowly released from the filling. Mercury has a strong affinity forbiological tissue and, released from the filling material, forms methyl mercury in the body. The author explains that sufficient toxic material is released from amalgams to cause emotional disturbances, birth defects, autoimmune diseases, and a host of other ailments whose etiology is considered to be mysterious, or unknown, by conventional medical practitioners and dentists. Gold filling material is preferable to amalgam, but the gold's purity is important because other metals, especially copper which is alloyed with gold to make it sufficiently durable, may create toxicity for some patients. Compounding the problem for dental patients is the fact that most dental manufacturers are reluctant to reveal the contents of their products (most patients never ask), and the Centers for Disease Control avoids the issue by endorsing dentistry as a self-policing profession with high ethical standards which is not responsible to the CDC, but only to itself. This well-written book may provide clues to many people's unexplained health problems. Highly recommended! I'd also recommend "The Complete Book of Dental Remedies" by Flora Parsa Stay, DDS, which is a comprehensive coverage of dental problems and prevention using homeopathy, nutritional supplements, and conventional dental care.

we slowly are learning more about the hazzards of MERCURY in our bodies. sure, we now stay away from mercury infested fish--but what about the gov. is not talking about ("truth"-not in their vocaulary) is the mercury in our vaccines--NO they are NOT safe.
Dental revision - read about the whole picture
This book was essential in my understanding of why I needed to remove all mercury from my mouth.It is the classic.I want to add that Hal Huggins' book on MS is an excellent complement because it is based on newer information Huggins has amassed, and describes the healing process very well.By writing about MS I am concerned that the rest of us who need to understand how to heal from mercury won't buy it.I highly recommend reading both books to fully grasp why and how. ... Readible but wrong
We purchased this book thinking it might be useful for our medical students.It is not.This book has numerous basic errors of pharmacology principles.It is laid out well and communicates things clearly however it is misleading and wrong about important aspects of pharmacology.Believing some of what is written in this book could result in harm if it influenced prescribing decisions.
If you take medications, you need this book!
Doctors can't keep track of every detail about every medication. So, it's essential that patients read about meds before taking them. Sometimes, however, the information just doesn't make sense to us. This book, helps it make sense. It's well organized. The information is great, and the style incorporates humor to make important points.

Makes Pharmacology A Lot More Enjoyable.

Network care heals the spinal nervous system
I was skeptical when a friend introduced me to network chiropractic. Since my insurance company covered the full treatment sessions I decided to give it a go. The surprise was worth it. Network chiropractice heals the spine and the emotional nervous system. So not only are the problem areas adjusted but the tension held in the nervous sytem is released. This is not cracking the joints but working with pressure points to align the body naturally and gently into place. If you get coverage for chiropractice ... give this a go.

Genius can be hard to understand...
I have completed over 100 sessions of Donald Epsteins "Network Chiropractic" or "Network Spinal Analysis" - and I can vouch for it. I believe it is unique, as it states, and not only is a process whereby you can overcome your pain, discomfort, and tension (defence physiology), but grow as a person overall. The benefits are without a ceiling to the "bodymind", and it just keeps getting better. It doen't even compare for example to the theory so highly touted and created by John Sarno (also reviewed) which is essentially learning how to control your pain. Network unwinds your spinal cord -- where all your tension resides, which is also said to be the subconscious mind.
