Fantastic Book!!!
I am taking the CMA exam this month and have my Associates Degree in the field. I borrowed this book ftom a student who started school before I did. The text book we had was not near as informative! This text has everything you need to know! I am purchasing it for my own reference because it was so helpful. I highly recommend this book to all Medical Assistants!

BIG FAT SCAM
I'd give this book negative five stars if I could. Save your self a lot of money, don't buy this book, don't take this class! The medical assistant technician programs are all a complete scam created by tech schools to make lots of money off unsuspecting students. I see about thirty commercials everyday boasting about how hot the medical field is right now and how easy it is to get a job. According to the commercials "The Hospitals and Nursing homes are understaffed and are just hiring people like crazy." None of this is true. I am a licensed C.N.A. and have a degree as a medical assistant.I would literally sell it for twenty dollars right now. My degree is worthless. I've kept in contact with almost every student I graduated with and most of them have given up looking for employment as a medical assistant. I have applied for at least fifty jobs so far. Out of those application I've been asked to do two interviews.
Excellent Book!
This book is excellent if you or anybody you know that is in the field ortraining to be a Medical Assistant. I am currently in the program at mylocal community college and love this textbook. Infact all my classmatescall it "THE BIBLE" we use it so much and for everything. Itteached you everything from how to send int insurance claim forms toputting on a pair of laytex gloves on!! Thank Goodness for This Book
If it weren't for this book, and for James Webb, I might have believed the teachers and psychologists who told me that something was really wrong with my daughter. After reading this book, I realized that several things were really right with her, but that we weren't handling her in the ways most likely to help her adapt and succeed.
where to start?
I have so many problems with this book that there is no way one review can include them all.I'm going to list some of the major ones here.
Vital information at an appropriate time!
After having read this book, I can't help but wonder how many lives have been damaged by the ignorance of those involved in the Mental Health occupations.I hope when parents (or even non-parents) read this book, they learn how important it is to be self-informed (at least to some degree) before they go trusting "professional" help, especially when professionals these days are so sure of themselves and have so much power over others' lives.It's a fine line between playing God and being an appropriate therapist when it comes to understanding human behavior. ... great introduction to chinese medicine
This book is a great way to get introduced to Chinese medicine.It's able to cover a lot of ground yet not being too vague or general.Usually books like this tend to be too techincal, but I found it surprisingly accessible. I wish I had read this book sooner !
I have loved K�bler -Ross's work and bought this book when I bought "On Grief and Grieving" by her and David Kessler. I have had it by my bed for months now. I thought that K�bler Ross's last book with Kessler is one of the best books on Grief I have ever read. Now after reading "The Needs of the Dying" I am so sorry I waited so long to read it. Any one who has a loved one with a terminal illness needs this book. It begins with how to deal with the diagnosis, the importance of hope and very helpful tips on getting the help you need from the medical system. It has two great chapters on dealing with pain and preventing unnecessary suffering. There is great information on medications and the fear of addiction. It has sections on advanced directives and how to use them in the hospital situation. What I loved the most is it gives you the information that the doctors and nurses don't always have time to explain. Beside the vital medical information it just has great suggestions on how to have the hard conversations. There are great stories with examples on what to say and not to say to children and insightful information on spirituality. David even talks about people having visions as they near death. It also tenderly describes what to expect at the end. It helps you feel like you can have some control in a situation that makes you feel you have lost all control. I wish I had this book when my loved one was dying. I know this is not a book that anyone wants to read, but if you find yourself in this situation , do not wait to read this book. I now know why Mother Teresa, Marianne Williamson and Elisabeth K�bler Ross and my friends felt this book was important. I highly recommend it. Don't miss the comfort it will bring you and your loved ones.

needs of the dying
the author is to much in the zone of "I". I have difficulty reading writings of those who are to much in the "I".I think using the words we or they at times tends to make the reading much more palatalable

Beautiful...
What a beautifully written book about death and the dying process.I only wish that I had been able to read this and so many more like it when my beloved mother was going through the dying process. I would have been able to understand so much better just what she was trying to communicate to me.

Very Good book for orthopedics class and chiro boards
This was a recommended text in my chiropractic college for my orthopedics class.I found the illustrations very helpful with learning the orthopedic tests which seemed so overwhelming at first.I kept practicing these tests with my friends before the lab test and got good grades.The national boards do use this text as a reference, I highly recommend using this book to study for the boards for either Part II, III, or IV.For x-ray portions of boards -more so in Part III and IV---I highly recommend Skeletal Radiology by Terry Yochum.This is a definite must buy as well as Patrick Leonardi's National Board of Chiropractic Part II, Part III and Part IV study guides.The questions were great and helped me to concentrate on the important topics of high yield questions asked on the boards.Thanks Terry Yochum, Patrick Leonardi and Ronald Evans for making my life much easier in chiropractic school and on the boards. ... Good choice
Easy to read, very effective, lots of color pictures of Iris, it has an improve iridology chart design by the author, lots of iris examples and analysis. I will recommended.

This is a most facinating book, I originally bought it because I had read Franks other book on Bowen therapy and I was really interested in what he had to say. This book is so well written that even an ordinary person like me can understand what he has to say. I was able to get my head round what Frank says within a day and then use the book for reference. This book is not just about iridology (though that is what it is mainly about)but it has a section in it about how the body heals and the stages it goes through to do this. The book is in full colour and with lots of photographic examples and of course the iridology maps. Frank has an egerness to share his knowledge with the world, and through his easy to read style I am sure he will reach and teach every one who reads his work. ... Read more

Excellent review book
This is a very easy to read book that gives a basic overview of the fundamentals in several areas of radiology. It provided a great quick reference for looking up practical questions in radiology. It was great for the days leading up to the oral exams when I wanted to refresh my memory in certain areas without having to lug around several huge reference texts. I know some people who have it around at teaching sessions and conferences and continually add there own key notes or "pearls" to the text.

New edition coming out
This is a good book for reviews, esp. if you hate those dense radiology textbooks.Everything is in outline format, with cartoonish illustrations.The 3rd edition is coming out at end of November 2002.

You must get this book

Invaluable
My professor gave this book to me as a gift, and since then, it has helped me a lot with care plans.The book provides a comprehensive list of Nursing Diagnosis with simple definition, Major Interventions, Suggested Interventions, and optional interventions for each outcome. It's short, simple, clear and easy for quick reference

Not what I was looking for
I was disappointed when I received my book. The first time I needed to use it I had to buy a NIC and NOC book in order to understand their NIC and NOC references.This book would be good for a practitioner with a good knowledge of the interventions and the outcomes.If you are a student, as I am save your money now and go ahead and buy the NIC and NOC, and not this book, because I found I could not use it at all.

Excellent and practical!
This book is spectacular. It covers all of the major points in palliative care giving the reader very practical and useful information. The chapters on non-pain symptom management and communication are fabulous.I just can't say enough good things about this book. It is an excellent overview for students, residents and even beginning palliative care fellows.

Excellent Resource
Dr. Hallenbecks book should be part of your core library if you have any interest in Palliative Care.Not only have I found it an excellent clinical reference, I've found it an accessible, easily readable entree to the subtleties of good palliative care practice.Highly recommended reading for all disciplines.

Excellent, compassionate and very pertinent
Reading this book is like having Dr. Hallenbeck at your side coaching the reader to think critically about the evolving discipline of palliative care. Worth the read!
If you're on this body assaulting drug, in need of cliche-comforting 'misery loves company', then this is the book to read. A quick, informative read, and one that leaves Prednisone users with hope for body normalcy once again.

Barely informative and depressing for a long-term user
This book should be titled: Eugenia Zukerman's Coping with Prednisone.

Sexual Assault
This is a wonderful book for individuals who are examining patients who have been sexually assaulted. Shows normal anatomy and variations, including non-sexual injuries. As a Nurse Practitioner and a new Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner I find this book to be an excellent reference. It had been recommended to me by the educational coordinator of the SANE course I took.

What should be common knowledge for professionals
I am surprised that many professionals are not aware of the results of the diagnostic test results that are listed in this medical reference.Every doctor's office should have this manuscript in their library.Especially for the nurse practioners and physician assistants in their employ.
A little book that stands by itself
This is a little book I've been using since day one at work, and let me say it is simply the most practical reference I had ever bought. It has a very concise overview of the principles underlying any diagnosis, an overview of some critical values, a pathologist incline clasification in the book (more disease oriented), and a super complete list of causes that may provoque the anomalies detected and outlined in this book. All in a minute consultation, really fast and easy to use. Simply very, very good.

Interpretation of Diagnostic Tests
I, too, have been using this reference for several years.I consider it to be one of the five most useful medical books on my shelf.This is probably the only book I feel the need to purchase every time there is an updated edition.I strongly recommend it for medical students, residents, midlevel providers and practicing physicians.It is a core reference in medical board review.It may also be of value for nursing staff in the hospital or clinic setting, especially for critical care nurses, or for anyone who is motivated to learn about medical diagnosis.The book is less likely to be useful to patients and their families, due to its highly technical nature. ... Helpful Information

Absolutely essential for introductory students in health occ
I have used this book since the first edition and wanted to kick myself when it came out for not publishing my curriculum and lesson plans at the time. Health Occupations was a new vocational course and most of us had towrite our own material. When Louise Simmers published DHO, we all knewinstantly that she had the best resource on the market. It stands up overtime and each new edition keeps my students current and relevent in thechanging world of health care.
