Learning to Speak Alzheimers
Although I have only read the sections pertaining to the beginning stages of Alzheimers (since that is where we are now with my mother-in-law) this book has been extremely helpful already. It was actually recommended to me by a co-worker, who said she refers back to it frequently as her mother-in-law grows progressively worse. I highly recommend it as a starting point if you are just beginning this journey with someone you love.

I used this book as my primary source...i read it twice before the exam. the cases are amazingly close to what you will get in the exam...trust me... you do not need a course, all you need is the first aid!!!!!!!!!!!!! any other sources can be used as a way of reviewing what you have already learned from that book. trust me you know the content of this book, you are one step ahead of the game.
All you need to pass CS!
This book does a great job of describing the exam format, rules and content. You can easily pass the exam using this book alone. In fact, a few days with this little gem before CS is what most of my friends and I have done for preparation. The consensus is that we ALL felt very comfortable with the simulated patient format based on what we learned in First Aid alone. Of all the cases I had on the exam, only ONE was not specifically covered in First Aid for CS. Don't waste time with other books/resources. I was somewhat disappointed with First Aid for CK, but for CS...it's right on the money!

#1 book for Step 2 CS
This book was excellent for the exam. It told me exactly what to expect and what I needed for the exam day. The cases in the back of the book where almost verbatim of what I saw on the exam. Greastes book for care plans
This is the best book i have found to help students write nursing care plans. I have several books and this is the only book that i use.I have wasted money on buying these other books. Even the care plan book that is recommended by the instructors, i never open it. THIS BOOK IS WONDERFUL!!!!

Ackley's nursing diagnosis handbook
I was not thrilled with the textbooks that my nursing college was using.I searched Amazon for books that I felt would help me write care plans without flipping back and forth between NIC, NOC and Nanda. Nursing Diagnosis Handbook: A Guide to Planning Care was just what I needed.The rationales are provided--along with the research data sources.It is also easy to do concept mapping with this book because it lists clusters of symptoms for different medical problems.With the purchase of this book, I have access to the Evolve website--which I find really helpful.

good for interns
This was my reference of choice when I was an intern at a busy major children's hospital.It's comprehensive, not too heavy to lug around, gives you the important details and gives you references as to where to go next for further reading.It's not always enough information when it comes to specific cases.I usually went to UpToDate, PedsinReview or lit searches at that point.I think this is a solid book to have early in your career because it lets you cover the most relevant material in a readable manner.As a second year, I don't go back to Currents as much and mostly go with articles.

great for medical students, less so for those beyond.
this is a well-written, decent source of information that I feel is geared more for medical students than residents.Its purpose is to familiarize the reader with common and well-known conditions and basic treatment definitions, along with basic epidemiology.It is not a one-stop reference for diseases, however, in that it will not go into detail regarding treatment including dosages and often time course of treatment; discussion of pathophysiology is quite limited.it certainly is unnecessary for a medical student to know whether to treat with high-dose vs. regular dose antibiotics, or whether single vs. double coverage for a given infection is more appropriate.but it would be much more helpful to your resident or attending to have such information in a reference book.

User friendly. One textbook you're liable to keep.
Interviewing textbooks are notoriously dry and mechanical. I can count using the fingers of one hand the number of books I have read on the subject that are worth their weight in cotton candy. Read more

useful but waiting for the new edition
I found this book is useful for all the cardiology trainee as it is wellwritten, easy to understood and there is many figures.However, it did notmention the new technology in the field of echocardiography such as thetissue doppler, contrast echo.I hope the next edition will include thisand the illustrations will be more colorful.

EASY-TO-COMPREHEND POCKET GUIDE
This "Bates' Pocket Guide to Physical Examination and History Taking" is an easy-to-comprehend manual which was structured in a way that should meet the needs of both doctors and nurses. The information contained in this book are simple and straightforward; and just like the complete edition, they included paediatric coverage. The chapters of this book examined both morphological and physiological abnormalities and/or irregularities. They included several illustrative charts and tables, which facilitate comparative analyses of clinical data. What a find!

As teenagers from a rough part of Newark, New Jersey, Sampson Davis, Rameck Hunt, and George Jenkins had nothing special going for them except loving mothers (one of whom was a drug user) and above-average intelligence. Their first stroke of luck was testing into University High, one of Newark's three magnet high schools, and their second was finding each other. They were busy staying out of trouble (most of the time), and discovering the usual ways to skip class and do as little schoolwork as possible, when a recruitment presentation on Seton Hall University reignited George's childhood dream of becoming a dentist. The college was offering a tempting assistance package for minorities in its Pre-Medical/Pre-Dental Plus Program. George convinced his two friends to go to college with him. They would help each other through. None of them would be allowed to drop out and be reabsorbed by the Newark streets.Read more

The Pact... Packs some good information for young people and their parents
The Pact was a book that I was interested in reading for some time. My son (9 yrs old), and I decided that the best time to read the book would be before his bedtime. We would alternate reading different chapters. The Pact was an inspiring story that I believe anyone could relate too. It's about community support, friendship and perserverance. This generation needs to hear stories about what is possible, and this book delivers on that message. I strongly recommend it for youth groups everywhere. We need to teach our kids how to choose friends, and that friends can support and nurture each others dreams. Dream BIG!
I will put this on my recommended list for students
One of my biggest challenges as an educator is building literacy. I know that the most successful students read outside of class, but I have a hard time finding books that manageable and interesting enough to grab the interest of the students that I work with in DC. I will recommend this book to my students because it helps make the choices of black students real in clear language. How do you successfully defer gratification for years and years to build a career? This book doesn't have definite answers but it does give an example that students can look up to. More programs like the Seton Hall program that helped bridge the transition to college are necessary for first-generation high school students. I also dug the fact that these three black men did not seem to be supermen in the way that Cedric Jennings was portrayed in "The Hope In the Unseen". Books like "The Pact" show that the best dreams are birthed by students in the presence of consistent mentoring. I hope that all urban mentors and educators will consider this book for motivational fuel.
Great read...
I read about these three in some magazine (Essence?) while I was in a bookstore cafe. I went upstairs to browse the book and ended up buying it. I'm so glad that I went to that bookstore just to browse around or I would have never known anything about it.I'd heard of these three from another magazine I subscribe to but never really knew what their deal was.It was very interesting to read about three young men who grew up in the inner city projects of Newark, two of them exposed themselves to crime, all of their manhood was tested, and two went to jail/juvenile hall. But with all those pitfalls, each one of them had a personality that would not let each other fall down.One was an activist, the next was a serious hard worker, and the third an optimistic motivator who stayed out of trouble.These guys were so good for each other. It was interesting to read about their sides of the story in a conversational tone that showcases their down-to-Earth personalities, their mild secrets that the other two will enjoy reading, and even a couple love interests would probably be flattered too.

Dr. Pearl's path and gift to us all
This is an easy read, his directness and passion has changed my life as I walk my soul path.He explains how we can tap into this energy to assist others and ourselves in healing mental, spiritual and physical aspects of being human. He also helpsus to understand how ego may hold us back. I was guided to actually attend an oreintation in Washington, DC and met Dr. Pearl. I have taken Reconnective Healing I, II and completed "The Reconnection-Level III"
Coming down to earth
When I began reading this book, I too was carried away by Eric Pearl's exuberance and passion. His book is heady stuff.Pearl is very funny, and he is even more persuasive, making some very astute observations of the human condition.The first part of the book - which is largely autobiographical - on the whole resonated well with me, and for this, I could have given 4 stars.
Amazing!!!
I've never been inspired to write an Amazon review before until I read this book-I've read a lot of books about healing, but not one has resonated with me like Eric Pearl's book. His easy to read and humorous style is exciting and engaging, and I could actually feel my vibration level rising while reading or even discussing the book. This is a life-changing book everyone can benefit from, and unlike many other books about healing 'techniques' Dr. Pearl isn't condescending, preachy or dogmatic. Reconnective Healing is something everyone can do without ritual or exclusive techniques and he makes a big point of that. I was so inspired by his book that I am flying halfway across the country to see him speak...I can't recommend this book enough! If enough people read this perhaps the consciousness of the world will shift in a posititive direction when we realize we're all connected and all empowered to heal. ... Read more

Great teaching aid for clinical psychology students
Great way to see how the DSM-IV criteria apply to real cases. Beware, this is the exact same (with exception to the references to the DSM-IV-TR page numbers) as the 1994 DSM-IV Casebook. So, if you already own the older version, don't bother wasting your money.

Great Bathroom Book
This is a great book with real-life case vignettes illustrating presentations of most of the diagnoses in DSM-IV-TR. Though initially skeptical, given the contrived case names, the book is excellent. Each case is followed by a discussion of the DSM-IV diagnostic issues raised. An especially neat part of the book is a presentation of historic cases from Blueler, Freud, and others, as well as international cases. Each case is self-contained so the book can be read in a three minute sitting.
informative and actually somewhat fun
I found this book to provide excellent supplemental info to the "DSM-IV-TR" itself. Written case studies, though no substitute for living, breathing subjects, actually provide a good deal of help in learning to apply the diagnoses in the "DSM-IV-TR". Highly recommended for anyone who wants to learn how to properly apply these diagnoses or learn more about psychiatry in general. I found it actually kind of fun.Avery Z. Quickly settles disputes, answers questions, a "MUST" for all home care nurses & their management teams !!!!
I have the 4th edition (at this time is the most recent edition in print) and as a psych home care nurse, this little, portable wealth of knowledge has helped me validate to management, as well as to public health and other surveyors, the range in situations that qualify "homebound status" for psychiatric patients.Throughout the book there are samples provided to support a variety of situations that help the nurse better understand, and therefore more accurately report, on each sector of the OASIS forms.Medicare regulations are explained in detail, and I learned information that I had not known in the 14 years I have been doing mental health home care nursing.The manual provides a history and background of homecare, its evolution, provides an overview of documentaion, including the importance of coding, and its significance in home care.Also, valuable tips on improving the nursing visit, setting achievable goals, managing the case, and the guidelines for care for all the home care disciplines, are provided, so the nurse can be knowledgable regarding the roles of the other disciplines.There is a great resource section at the end of the book, and home care definitions, roles, and abbreviations are delineated in this manual as well.All home care codes are listed.

Excellent review for Health Care Professionals.
Great reference
I'm a nursing student and used this book for my first clinical rotation.It is an excellent resource as it is easy to use and not only defines the tests themselves but also gives clear concise reasons for high or low values.It was a great investment for me as a student.

Atlas of Chinese Tongue Diagnosis Volume 1
As a medical professional, I have an interest in what works to bring health to the system.At times, alternative medicines when appropriately applied, in the hands of the right people, ones trained in health care and disease, can offer stimulating results.But the question of how to obtain reliable material to diagnose and treat a disease remains a current issue.This book helps bridge the gap between Chinese diagnostics and the Western approach to disease.Atlas of Chinese Tongue Diagnosis provides visual illustrations of various ailments, mapped outwardly on the tongue, and includes written descriptions and symptoms.When applicable, it correlates the topography of the tongue to Western disease.However, the book is not all inclusive.It lacks treatment.I would suggest a companion, Radiant Health by Ron Teeguarden.Teeguarden's work covers portions of the ancient Chinese art of health and offers a treatment program designed to correct deficencies and disturbances in Qi.The two together provide a reliable source for a medical professional to understand and apply the basics in Chinese medicine.I highly rate this book when accompanied with Teeguarden's.

Excellent atlas of tongue diagnosis
This is an excellent book for anyone interested in Chinese tongue diagnosis.The book is divided into sections according to pattern (Kidney disharmonies, Stomach and Spleen disharmonies, etc).Each section contains approximately 30 full-color, well-photographed tongues representing the pattern.This makes it easy to see the range of tongue signs for each pattern.Also, the description of the tongue, the patient's symptoms, Western diagnosis and Chinese diagnosis are printed next to the photo of the tongue for easy reference.(You don't have to flip back and forth between the text pages and the color plates, as in Maciocia's Tongue Diagnosis in Chinese Medicine.)This book isn't cheap, but the quality of the photographs and the clear description of the tongues makes it a very worthwile investment. ...
