Dawson text substantiated in general and radiologic practice
As a private practice general dentist for 18 years and an academic and practicing oral maxillofacial radiologist for 16 years I have experienced and seen that the TMJ, occlusion and musculature must function in concert in order for the patient to be comfortable.Dr. Dawson's book nicely organizes these fundamental concepts necessary for accurate diagnosis and treatment of the teeth and oral structures.I recommend this book to my pre- and post doctoral students.

Dr. Dawson's Method's Completely Wrong & Harmful
Dr. Peter Dawson's method's are completely wrong and harmful and based on a concept that has long been proven to be seriously wrong.Centric relation as defining the correct spacing for condyle within the temporomandibular joint is completely wrong and anyone using this long outdated philosophy is injuring patients.For decades now the anatomy of the TM joint has been known and properly understood which has proven the concept of centric relation to be completely wrong and not consistant with proper joint positioning or optimum jaw joint health and no health professional, especially a dental professional, should ever push or put pressure on a patient's jaw as it CAUSES TMJ injuries.Dr. Dawson's theory that pushing on a patient's jaw and them reporting any pain caused by this procedure DIAGNOSES TMJ injuries is ridiculous as the action itself is causing the TMJ injuries that he claims this action diagnoses! Pain is the universal understood sign of injury and it is insane of Dr. Dawson to think this procedure, which causes pain as it directly injures the jaw joint since it does not naturally move the way Dr. Dawson instructs dentists to manipulate it to, diagnoses an injury when the jaw is not supposed to move this way in the first place and the pain he describes as a sign of a pre-existing injury...is actual a sign of an injury caused to the patient from doing this procedure.Any dental professional stupid enough to not see through the nonsense in this book and to follow it's methods deserves to have their license taken away as they are clearly injuring patients when there is abundant information available to them to show them that Dr. Dawson's methods and completely wrong.This book is a lesson in what NOT to do and should never be seen as valid or legitamate.

A must have for bio-medical approach

A Must Have Book!
If you have a child who is pdd, on the autistic spectrum, add or adhd, has Rett's etc. this book is a must have. It will guide you in the treatment of many neurological disorders. This is information that most m.d.'s don't have the time or inclination to learn. This book is based on years of intensive research in the area of neuroligical toxicity and how to treat it using natural and prescription medications. Thyroid epidemic revealed....PLEASE give this book to all your doctors!!
I have a family history of thyroid disease including both Hashimoto and Graves Disease. I took radioactive iodine for Graves disease 19 years ago, and have been on synthetic thyroid for many years.(Now supplemented with T3 dessicated thyroid hormone).
Anyone who thinks they are hypo should read this book
Very detailed information about Hypothyroidism, Can help anyone with a low basal temperature. If you think you are hypo and your doctors won't help you read this book and you will find a doctor who will help you. Lots of knowledge about this condition. Must read.

Helpful and Very Interesting, but "Buyer Beware"
I am currently reading quite a few books on the subject of Hypothyroidism, after learning that I have a strong family history of it. Great Resource for Nursing Faculty
This book is intended for part-time clinical faculty in nursing programs but it has excellent chapters that can be helpful to anyone teaching in nursing education. It addresses many helpful techniques that experienced clinical educators have used, as well results of research in clinical teaching. The chapter dealing with interpersonal issues in clinical education is especially helpful in addressing the difficult situations that arise with students. Diamond in the rough
This book looks daunting at first encounter. Each page is crammed with valuable information which sometimes overwhelms the reader. But this is exactly why this book is a gem for me. Other readers find it difficult to follow because they missed the fly leaf which lists all the nursing diagnosis with its corresponding page numbers. In my experience, in order to get the maximum use of this book, go to the fly leaf (the first page after the front cover), look up the nursing diagnosis and its page number. When you get to the right page,voila, all the wonderful information is listed as follows:
Don't waste your money.
Although my nursing school required this book, it is the most confusing and least helpful of all the 9 books I have on care planning and nursing diagnoses. I haven't met anyone who likes this book or finds it user friendly. In all the other books the rationales are written right after the interventions,this book does not use that format making it time consuming and frustrating. Outstanding Book on Physical Diagnosis
I am sure I wouldn't be wrong if I say there is no other book
More readable than the title suggests
I hesitated to buy this book because of the title - "evidence-based" is often not so much an assurance of reliability as of nonreadability.However, of the twenty or so books on physical diagnosis I have perused this is by far the best - no single book will improve your clinical examination with more speed or pleasure.

How to make yourself look smart
Many good physical exam books exist, but this is the only one that really tells you what PE finding mean.It includes great tables that lists findings of particular diseases and gives the sensitivity, specificity and likelihood ratios. Other books will tell you that sign X is associated with disease Y, but no others tell you that if you see X that there is a high probability that the patient has Y, and a low probability if the patient doesn't have Z.The tables are even referenced to articles. ... Good portable reference
This is not my favorite nursing diagnosis book but it can be useful if you need a small book that you can take with you to clinical.My version has a tear out card with all the nursing diagnoses listed on it which it nice since ther are more than one person can possibly remember. I'm not sure I like the interventions that this book proposes. Every time I've used this book to devise a care plan I get feedback saying that my plan was not specific enough. If you want a more specific book I would recommend "Nursing Diagnosis Handbook" by Ackley (ISBN 032302551X). Care plans that I have written with the use of the Ackley book have always been well received and I usually get A's on them.
The best Nursing Diagnosis Book Yet!
This book is a wonderful guide through the NANDA maze for nursing students and practitioners.It gives guidance to the appropriate diagnosis, assessments to make, how to steer clear of dependent diagnoses, and using NIC Interventions and NOC outcomes.I am a professor of nursing, and I have used this for two semesters with my clinical stduents who rave about "the book" and also to help staff nurses develop great outcome based interventions for their patients.It is very user friendly and is very portable.At the price...it is the best bang for the buck! ... A decent handbook
A decent handbook for beginning residents especially emergency medicine residents. Decent guide on signs and symptoms; making the diagnosis; treatment and disposition. A little too brief in places and occasional errors but well worth it.

Textbook only
This is an excellent book on a terribly important subject area; however, I would not recommend it as anything other than a textbook.It is not poorly written; rather, it is terribly academically written.This book will be quite enlightening if you have a class and professor with whom to discuss your reading.If you have the slightest degree of dyslexia, ADHD, or migraine aura -- you will probably spend your semester rereading and rereading until your face is the color of the cover, so I suggest asking your professor for some supplemental reading that is more easily digested.It will not make reading this book easier, but it will greatly increase your understanding of the subject matter.

The Brain's Moral Code
What can the study of the brain tell us about how we should live our lives? Quite a lot, argues Michael Gazzaniga in his new book The Ethical Brain. Gazzaniga is a professor of cognitive neuroscience (the study of the relationship between brain and behavior) at Dartmouth College and a highly respected researcher in his field. Thus, he was an obvious choice for inclusion in the President's Council on Bioethics, on which he has served since 2001. As a member of that council, he has witnessed "how the fear of science can stifle rather than further research" (pp. xv-xvi). In response, Gazzaniga argues for neuroethics, which he defines as "the philosophy of living informed by our understanding of underlying brain mechanisms" (p. xv, italics in original). Gazzaniga's bottom line, in most cases, is that we should allow science to advance without trepidation, trusting to an innate sense of morality that will guide us sensibly through the ethical issues raised by scientific advancements.
