5-0 out of 5 stars A Must-Read For Caregivers!
Caregiving usually doesn't happen gradually. Families are often thrust into the situation because of a crisis, without any experience on how to manage the overwhelming stress, responsibilities, legalities, and medical aspects. Gary Barg has done an excellent job sorting it all out with 'The Fearless Caregiver', guiding the reader through the maze. Very easy to read, motivating, empowering, and highly recommended!5-0 out of 5 stars A Must-Read for all Caregivers!
It is about time that someone tackled the issues that caregivers face.It can often be a lonely and confusing time.I was a caregiver for my mother a few years ago and looked everywhere for a book like this.I needed something to walk me through all of the things I didn't understand. This a well-crafted, easy to read and understand book that all caregivers should read.I wish it had been available five years ago!I recommend it highly.

It has been placed in our Parkinson's Library for our members to read. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars a must read........
this book is chock full of information on the realities of dealing with alzheimer's disease and other memory impairment disorders.it is clearly written and uses examples of real-time situations to highlight situations that can arise and suggestions on how to deal with them.highly recommend it for care providers and others in the lives of those with memory impairment disorders.required reading for adult children to gain an appreciation for the pressures on the care provider(s) for a parent.

5-0 out of 5 stars The 36 Hour Day
This is a really good book. I kept borrowing it from the library and kept getting fined for having it too long, so I thought I'd save myself time and trouble (and money, too) and buy it. I've come across alot of the same things that are mentioned in the book. This book is helpful to give the caregiver a different perspective on AD and it's nice to know that you're not alone in your struggles. It also reminds you that others have it worse than you do. I recommend this book for anyone who has elderly relatives, with the increased incidence of AD the chances are pretty good/bad that a relative will suffer from it. I think it's best to be prepared for the worst before it gets here. That way you'd have a start on what care would be required and how much you'll have to change your life to accomadate your aging relatives.

5-0 out of 5 stars Every Caregiver Should Read This Book
As the caregiver (daughter-in-law) of a 90 year old patient with dementia (vascular/multi-infact type), I found this book to be profoundly helpful in dealing with the day-to-day activities of caregiving. In short, I felt as if the authors had spent several weeks in our home and then written the book just for us!This is a MUST READ for any caregiver of a patient with Alzheimer's or other dementias. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent, affordable, comprehensive
This book is a must-have for anyone responsible for realistic decision making about his/her ability to provide health care at home, as well as an excellent how-to guide for those who accept the inherent responsibilities of the caregiver. I consider it the one "best" guide of those available to meet the needs of the growing number of home caregivers.

5-0 out of 5 stars Calm and Information Guide
Despite the name "survival guide" I found this a calm and informative guide to environmental mold issues. It explained in an understandable way the scientific issues around mold such as what mold is, how it can be a health hazard, and more importantly how mold is not some sort of invisible killer, but something that requires certain conditions to become a problem.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tips on prevention are particularly well done
Mold growth is a wide-ranging problem only recently receiving recognition in the process: turn to the The Mold Survival Guide For Your Home And For Your Health for significantly more depth and advice than any ordinary newspaper article could offer. Indoor air quality professional teams join a writing specialist to describe different types of molds and how to eradicate them while maintaining health. Tips on prevention are particularly well done.

5-0 out of 5 stars A caregiver's bible
Since first reading this book over 14 months ago, I've found it a constant source for information and resources. It addresses the problems I encounter on a daily basis AND gives sources for products that I can use to provide better care for my loved one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beverly Bigtree Murphy, author, "He Used to be Somebody,"
This book is a must for caregivers and professionals facing the challenges of Alzheimer's.It is the first book I've read devoted to Alzheimer's care that offers something more than reasons to institutionalize our people.Caregivers need information, options and where to access tools andresources before they can make informed decisions about their choices ortheir role as caregiver. As someone who spent 25 years designingrehabilitations plans for handicapped people and another 10 years facingthe care of my husband, Tom, who died of this disease in our home, this isthe first volume I've picked up that speaks of caregiving in positive,life-giving, do-able terms and not the drudgery that we are all led tobelieve consumes the process. While it offers pragmatic, workable, affordable solutions to caregivers, it never loses sight of the continuedhumanity and needs of our family members for love and regard in spite oftheir loss of cognitive skills. My experience as a caregiver was met withnothing but obsticles in my quest to keep my husband home, a journey Irelate in my book, "He Used to be Somebody."I found Tom's careproblems were 75% attitude and 25% tools, resources and help. This bookoffers both to families.I highly recommend it. ... The strength of this book is in its simplicity and that it provides a good review for anatomy / physiology. I used it to review for the FNP exam and found it to be a keeper on my shelf, next to other primary care across the lifespan books.

5-0 out of 5 stars Handbook for Mortals
I found this book days after leaving the hospital with a two year prognosis for a misdiagnosed illness. My head was spinning.I was making lists of questions and to do lists for leaving my 2 young children.Finding this book was a wonderful gift.It answered my questions and provided a realistic outlook for what to expect of a terminal condition. The book provides sample statements for calling your relatives and helps you to prepare for your doctor appointments.I visited a doctor today and I led the session and all of my questions were addressed before the exam occurred. This book should be recommended to all diagnosed with a terminal illness.Highly recommended book!

This book helped me understand that I'm the one in charge. The caregivers work for me and I see now that I need to take more control of the situations. It's a great resource for all aspects of people management.

5-0 out of 5 stars Treasure of Facts and Helps
This book is a treasure of facts and helps for any family member, friend, or professional seeking caregiver/personal assistant care for another, or for an individual seeking such care for him/herself. The book is reader friendly and proceeds in logical steps. The information is practical and useable. Compassion for and insight into the feelings of the care receiver are a part of the writing and this is invaluable to all as they move through the process of finding caregiver/personal assistants. The author "thought of everything" and addresses every question one could have because he has been in the situation of finding care for himself and knows what does and does not work. His expertise and information will be a welcome and comprehensive guide to anyone who needs to find, hire and manage caregiver or personal assistant help.

5-0 out of 5 stars Caregivers and Personal Assistants
Finally, DeGraff has a new book! He is THE authority on personal care assistance, and I trust his experience, wisdom and advice. We have waited for this new edition for several years, and we find it chocked full of practical how-to's. This is a must for families seeking advice on managing care at home, for students and for health care workers. This book should be required reading for legislators and public policy advocates because this provides practical, up-to-date, relevant information for real-life settings; and it reminds us that legislation must support independent living and home care. With the graying of America, more and more people are going to realize the value of living at home with effectively managed personal care. Agency care often does not work, and it is not aimed at promoting the care recipients' need for independence, respect and wholesomeness. Managing care at home provides sensible and healthy options -- and DeGraff's expertise and advice shows how to go about it. This is learning from the best!Margaret A. Short, Ph.D. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful handbook of the day
My five star rating for this book is because when it was published - and when I first read it - it was uptodate and a leader for resources.Very few books were written to give those who care for loved ones places to find answers. Most available books concentrated on specific conditions and the patients. Also at the time, the web didn't have the helpful, informative sites of today.Personally, I would love to see Mrs. Carter update the book to include the email adresses and web sites for the sources listed.4-0 out of 5 stars I wish I had read this before
I was a caregiver for a few years for my father and wish I had had a book like this then.If only I had known about all the resources out there that could have helped us!It also would surely have helped to know there weremany others out there facing the same situation we were - the comments fromcaregivers in Georgia mirrored what I felt here in Pittsburgh.Caregivingis the same everywhere - we all have to cope with the same thing.Foranyone who is or may ever be a caregiver, this book is a nice and simpleread.

4-0 out of 5 stars A must for caregivers facing long term care.
Mrs. Carter begins her book with the following statement:"There areonly four kinds of people in this world:Those who have been caregivers *Those who currently are caregivers * Those who will be caregivers * Thosewho will need caregivers".The definition of who a caregiver is, thatfollows that statement, is one of the most succinct descriptions I haveread. This is a book everyone facing the prospect of long term care with aloved one must read and possess. She talks about caregiving as a timehonored tradition, that although inherent with great stress and isolation, nevertheless holds the possibility of satisfac-tion if positive attitudesare nurtured and support services and help are attained. No one can do italone. She provides a list of places to start for information and planningwhen long term care becomes a challenge in your life.I highly recommendthis reading. ...
