Amazing Language Book for Nursing Students
Amazing book, take the time to fill in all of the exercises.It takes a while but well worth it.I got an A in this class because of this!

Steller book
This workbook is really great.It explains how to combine prefixes, suffixes and root words in the medical language in simple terms.If you have never ever had Anatomy and Physiology, this is the book for you.Even if you are going to take the A & P course, this would help you somewhat.The book keeps repeating what you have learned in different ways to reinforce your knowledge.The CD is good too.Really pretty easy but it's a fun tool.I only found 1 mistake in the CD so far, but I have only been through it for the first few chapters.I didn't need the rest because the book was so good.Have fun with it.

For CMT exam
I used this book to prepare for the Certified Medical Transcriptionist exam.It is well-organized and makes the study of body systems very, very easy.It gives you several ways to learn the same information--pictures, words, having you write out answers in different ways.Heavy on prefixes and suffixes, which makes it easier to figure out unknown medical terms. New Edition of an Old Stand-By

Good... but not great
I bought this book at the beginning of my 3rd year medicine rotation and used it for several weeks. It was good... but I did not find the layout and algorithms to be user friendly. It has the information.. but I found myself searching in various sections to find what I needed many a time. Overall a good book, but having experimented with others for my other medicine and family medicine rotations, I would recc that you peruse through either Medicine Recall, Consult Manual of Internal Medicine, &/or Pocket Medicine. All are great... and have different styles. Its simply a matter of personal preferance.

Excellent
This pocket manual really does contain everything you could possibly need for an excellent pocket reference during your internal medicine rotation.Also clearly references the larger text, in case you want even more information.

Just average
This handbook is meant for doctors in the wards but cannot be called "Harrison in Hand". It can never be a substitute for that book. The algorithms are mind boggling if a physician has no access to the bigger text. It is nothing but a consolation of having the bigger text in hand.

Resident Review
This text has been required reading for the radiology program I attend, however, I must admit that many senior residents strongly advise incoming residents to return it for a refund as residents cannot afford a textbook that is low-yield.I have read several chapters and find it not very helpful.I feel that your money and time is better spent reading a standard introductory diagnostic radiology text (not Squire's as this is more suited for medical students) such as Helms Diagnostic Radiology or the MGH Primer or better yet, saving your money for the costly registration fees for your boards.Trust me on this one.

Great learning Tool
As a Spanish 2 and 3 teacher I highly reccomend this book. I use it as a reference myself because it has great explanations and the order of the grammar structures is useful. I would reccomend getting an answer key along with the book. This is a great book to refresh your memory on grammatical structures.
Un Repaso Perfecto
Repaso was used as my school textbook for higher level Spanish courses in high school.Everything is great about it.The instructions are in English which makes it even more compatable.The book is able to review old concepts, but has enough to teach the little proper things about Spanish.It is a great purchase for any student that is just learning Spanish or has been taking it for many years and needs a reference.

Although I agree that this book is certainly a bargain when compared to the standard textbook options that often cost 3-4 times as much, I was disappointed to find that no solutions to the exercises are provided. One must purchase ANOTHER book before the exercises in this book can really be said to be useful. I am a firm believer in immediate correction when it comes to language review and acquisition--spending time on exercises without knowing which you did wrong will only reinforce what are your misunderstandings of grammar. However, if you are willing (and able) to buy the solutions manual along with this book, then it will make a good review--though it won't be the bargain that it at first appeared. ... Read more

Dorland's Pocket Medical Dictionary

great book for internal med rotation
I would highly recommend this book! I felt like it prepared me well for the shelf along with mksap and pretest. It is not too wordy like Blueprints tends to be. Thorough but to the point. Definitely worth it!

All the information you need
Lots and lots of illustrations, so it has all the stuff you need. Not easily accessible/not easy to navigate.

Good but not excellent
This is re: 10th edition.
Underrated, but truly delivers. That's what we found.
This is the review I posted regarding the Netter atlas. I cite here, because it compared the Netter atlas with Grant's. It reflects the view of somebody that really experimented on the dissecting table various atlases. In the end, our group ended up with Grant's. It really delivered for us. My review assumes you will have a thorough anatomy exam, including cadaver, x-rays, CT, and physical examination of the live human. It might be that you school will only require a written examination, in which case our experience might not be the same. However, I feel this atlas develops fundamental skills.

If your a Third year Medical student this book is a must.
I just finished my third year of medical school, and I found this book to be a must own. the topics quite interesting and comprehensible, and will help with most areas you need to reference.

the best there is
I can scarcely believe that people dare to criticize this tome. I don't actually have Harrison--I have Tinsley & Harrison, as it was called in decades past. (People do grow old and die.) The notion that a layperson "can understand Hippocrates' Aphorisms in the original Greek" better is nonsense: frankly, it depends upon the lay reader's familiarity with terminology, yea, his or her command of Greek and Latin roots. That's what dictionaries are for, and that's also presumably what your English classes (remember them?) instilled in you--at least partially--at least hopefully. By way of superfluous comparisons to other opera campi, Merck just doesn't provide the depth of coverage: I regard it as a glorified Taber's.
For the lay person---NOT!!!
There is a reason why med students learn anatomy, histology,embryology, physiology,and biochemistry before picking up Harrison's, so I snicker when non-MD's think they can read and understand ( with the help of Taber's medical dictionary, which by the way is used by nurses, physicians in training use Dorland's) a medical textbook, especially one like Harrison's.( What is especially humorous is that one reviewer recalled that the textbook was titled "Tinsley & Harrison "(sic).... funny because Harrison's first name was Tinsley, as in Tinsley Harrison, MD).This is like a layperson reading a computer manual then taking apart his PC and trying to put it back together. To reiterate a layperson has a better chance of understanding Hippocrates' aphorisms in the original Greek than Harrison's. Remember a little knowledge is a dangerous thing. To the reviewer that has Tinsley Harrison's earlier edition textbook, the medical information there is as useful as a screen door in a submarine. If it's writing style, literature and actual history of medicine that you are after, may I suggest "The Practice and Principles of Medicine" bySir William Osler. ... Read more

Best Medical Dictionary By Far!
I love this text it is filled with great pictures to help you understand what they are talking about. It also has easy to understand reading. Very thuroughly put together!

Great Textbook
This book was required for my Medical Terminology class, but I love it.It is an excellent teacher.

Excellent Textbook!Received an "A" in my class also!
I just took this course at a local college and I thought this textbook was excellent.The materials are well laid out and the book includes many photos and drawings of medical procedures. The book includes the following sections for each chapter: anatomy, combining forms, prefixes, suffixes, terms built from word parts, terms not built from word parts, procedures, diseases, acronymns, and many excellent practice sections in each chapter.If you follow the layout of the chapters and do the practice exercies then you will do well in this class.Medical terminology is very logical and practical.Good luck!

My Mom is taking this book to the doctor for discussion points
This book recommends using it to help discuss with your doctor the PD medications, which is exactly what my Mom is going to do today. When I saw this book recently it was what my Mom had been wishing for to help her figure out how to help my Dad, who is developing Parkinson's hallucinations and paranoia issues after many years of battling this disease. These are known problems from both the disease, as well as the medications to treat the illness. The book gave me renewed hope and optimism for helping my Dad be more himself again. Adjustments of the various prescribed medications can make a difference in life quality by balancing medication negative side effects with their benefits. My Mom is taking my Dad to the doctor today to discuss his medications and she taking this book with her. It's nice to know she has the Mayo clinic doctor, in essence, to take with her to discuss points with the local doctor.

Outstanding atlas in a cheap binding
As with many Elsevier books, Spalton's is high quality context - and Spalton's is outstanding - but the book is bound in flimsy paper.Our copy arrived with the spine partially ripped at the joint; just resting this hefty volume on end ripped the front bottom corner of the cover. Looks great, but constructing a hardbound book with flimsy paper is a travesty.

Would have been 5 stars if it had been edited well and on non-glossy paper
Great book, but I actually like the earlier edition better.I have the latest edition, but was disappointed with the many errors in the book and on the CD that accompanies the book.The Index has numerous errors as topics are not listed on the pages stated in the index.The CD also has numerous errors as the pictures dont coincide with the chapters in the book even though they are supposed to.
The caption drawings make the atlas
This is a great resource for residents. A major problem with most atlases is that pictures of subtle findings are not properly annotated, so that the reader may miss the actual focus of the picture.Read more
