Great review
It's a great review book, not for basicknowledge though, you must have read the material elsewhere, this is just a nice one week crash review book.

excellent concise review
this is an excellent concise review of high yeild information.although nothing is a subsitute for regular reading of a surgical text, this is as close as it comes if you are preparing for the absite.it will take a few years to determine this book's utility with the new absite format, but in the meantime this is one of the best that i have seen.

Excellent comprehensive textbook
We are a new program and this atlas was recommended to us highly.We have used it for two semesters and it is not only a beautiful book, but one that the students find easy to use.The radiographs and all other illustrations are the best of all the books we reviewed.We especially like the summary tables of projections, the technique charts, and the anatomy summaries.We like to point out to students that they should be familiar with many of the projections in the text that are not essential since they often are ordered by physicians.Volume 3 is superb with specialty chapters.We use this volume instead of purchasing a specials type book.The surgery and geriatrics chapters are especially good for our students.We like the CT and cross-sectional also because our students need to know CT in many of their clinical sites.The accompanying workbook is very well done also.Our students like the pocket guide that is available because it contains a radiograph and a place to write their AEC techniques.We think the atlas is a steal because we can use it for five different courses in our new program.Our only complaint is that the pages are very shiney and reflect light.MB

Medical Information for semi-dummies
Have been buying this book for friends & relatives for years.After 25 yrs in the medical field, I can recommend it as a quick & useful reference"Get out the little red book" is a rallying cry in my circle.

Great household reference
Definitely for non-medical persons, this is a great book to have around the house when your friends/parents/kids call with their latest ailment. It gives concise, easy-to understand definitions, entries are easy to find, and it's remarkably comprehensive for the price and size.On the other hand, if you are a student in a health-related field, it doesn't cover all the root definitions.Go for the Taber's if that's what you need. ... A must-have for residents!
When I was an Internal Medicine resident I used to say: I am never alone on call; it is always me and "Dr. Washington"!
The book is being overrated
I personally feel that thethe book is small, being rightly meant to be carried by residents in wards, but cramped with borrowed information which exceeds the capacity of the book. A lot of it feature in other standard texts and nothing is new.The algorithms too are borrowed. Information on antibiotic usage and common tropical disorders in detail are lacking. Unnecessary publicity is being given to the book and The Osler Medical Handbook by Cheng and Zaas is far superior to this in all aspects. Another important aspect is that students reading the book do not read standard texts and are clearly at a disadvantage while appearing in examinations.The book needs to be rewritten in another format to be successful.
Used it on a volnteer medical mission to Louisiana!
Adult medicine is not my specialty so when I was deployed as a volunteer to St Bernard Parish, Louisiana as a volunteer I knew I'd be seeing all ages of patients. I needed a good easy to use quick reference and this book was highly recommended and now I know why!! It was very easy to find the info I needed to treat many, many illnesses and conditions that I needed to brush up on.

DRUG HANDBOOK
HAVE BEEN USING THIS BOOK FOR A COUPLE OF MONTHS-GENERALLY GOOD, HAVE NOTICED SOME DRUGS MISSING OR DIFFICULT TO CROSS REFERENCE...ALSO LACKING IN "ACTION OF MEDICATION"INFORMATION.

Organized presentation, but...
I went to look up Zarontin, and it wasn't in this book (had obscure information under ethosuximide, though). It is a commonly prescribed to control absence seizures. So I'd like to know why this drug wasn't in there. I went to make a suggestion to the publisher, and you have to fill out a questionaire to be a reviewer. I'm not going to go through all that to share a helpful suggestion.
Useful, well-organized & well-written; neat CD for patient guidance
As a physician, I used to turn to the PDR for drug guidance, but it seems that only the profitable [ie, proprietary] drugs are listed there. I've often used my RN wife's NDH, recently replaced by the 2006 version. Try to find niacin (for hypercholesterolemia) in the PDR for instance - whereas the NDH has a compact yet thorough description of indications, dosing, adverse effects and fundamentalpharmacology. The little CD enclosed prepares patient information on some 200 common drugs. All told, this is a neat yet compact drug reference guide. Not inexpensive, but highly recommended. ... Read more

A Valuable Resource
This book is a wonderful tool to use in developing groups for children and adolescents. Some of the activities are therapeutic in and of themselves, and others are useful for generating discussion on a number of topics. Innovative and easy to follow, I highly reccomend this book.

A good place to find descriptions of genuinely obscure drugs
This book contains references to some drugs that I couldn't find anywhere else.Drugs that are no longer in common use, that are used exclusively outside the US, or that have toxicity levels that are normally unacceptable may still find a listing in Martindale.The index is very thorough.I had only two complaints: 1) I don't understand why some drugs information is dropped when new editions come out --I would rather see the book simply grow, rather than sometimes requiring access to older editions, and 2) it doesn't present molecular structures (sigh).Still, the opportunity to find information that is otherwise simply unavailable (try to find dosing schedules for potassium bromide elsewhere, to pick an example) outweighs any complaints.

A must have for anyone in the nedical community.

A beautifully done and accessible neuroanatomy text.
This is one of several books I bought while in med school studyingneuroscience. This is a beautiful text, with wonderful drawings, good useof catscans and MRIs, and an excellent layout. It helped me considerably tolearn the anatomy of the spinal cord and brain. Since I am deaf and theycouldn't deal with it in a classroom (looking down at microscopes does notmake lipreading easy or help my interpreters)...they sent me to the morguewith medical students and nursing students. This book provided thebackground I needed to do well in this situation, because the drawings wereexplicit enough to be recognizeable when presented with the real thing. Ialso use this book with deaf students who I hope to encourage to go intoscience. The drawings always get them interested enough to ask questions,and that is what good science is about. Well rounded
John H., Phd Martin constructed a well-rounded neuroanatomical textbook.The material covers every anatomical aspect of the n.s. including chapters on embryonic development and vascular anatomy.The text is continuously tied in with detailed images (ct, mri, & myelin stained slices ofc.n.s.).The reading material is exceptionaly easy for its class.Thebook gets very detailed, and will make you a leading source onneuroanatomy.Author comment: "Even though this book came out a fewyears back in '96, the material today is still very similar and they do notget any user-friendlier."

Not very thorough
I would strongly recommend the Bates Guide To Physical Examination over this book.This book lacks many procedure details that would help a student learn physical assessment skills.There are some vocabulary terms in the chapters that are undefined, and the illustrations are very limited.

This is the best I've seen
I'm a medical student whose school uses Bates' guide... I must say that this book FAR surpasses Bates.Not only is the information complete, but the pictures and "jewels" it presents are wonderful.This is also better than the Schwartz (which I own also).If I could choose all over which book to buy of the three, I would DEFINITELY buy this one.

Worst book on the subject.
This was the worst purchase I have ever made.This is a poorly illustrated coffee table book on death.There is no educational value.Although it is obvious that the author (Jay Dix) had great cases during his career, they are very poorly photographed, and the publisher has done a pitiful job of reproducing them.If you have an interest in learning ANYTHING about the world of forensic pathology, this is NOT the book for you.At about a dollar per page, this book is not worth your time. ... Decent
This book does a pretty good job of explaining the basic concepts. But it doesn't seem to offer a complete coverage of the topics covered in the book.

Excellent for Physicist
We recently purchased this book and I find it extremely well written and useful. I would call it super for a physicist doing medical imaging research. The book reads like a reference text for a researcher. There are no cartoons or homework problems. The second edition is very up to date. The book could use some references to advanced information sources as it is a bit short on physics/mathematics details.

suitable for teaching medical physicist wannabes now
I currently own the first edition of this book, and after flipping throug this new expanded 2nd edition, I'll be upgrading soon.The first book is an excellent text to use for teaching radiology residents the principles of medical imaging.Now, this second edition with greatly expanded content and pictures looks like it would be suitable for teaching a course to medical physics students.All sections appear to be significantly expanded with the additional detail needed for medical physicists.Still excellent for residents, but might go into a little more detail than they need. ... Quick and concise
One of the better rapid review books out there, but not sufficient as a "sole" review source (although I don't think such a thing as a single review source exists for an exam such as this one).I found it to be a little more on target than First Aid, with better organization, more pertinent information, and concise enough that I could read it in just a few days.There were definitely some good things I picked up from it, and as with any of the review books you read, I would highly advise supplementing it with a lot of practice style questions. Good atlas, could be better.
I agree with the other review in that the actual real pictures were extremely helpful yet the depiction of tracts were difficult for me to follow at times.This is a required text for my neuroanatomy course, and it served a vital purpose.I like this text and would recommend it to anyone in the field.

I gave it four stars because I don't think I could recommend this atlas as a stand-alone sole reference for someone trying to master neuro-anatomy, but I do recommend it as part of your arsenal. ok but it lacks some stuff

Simple and to the point
Excellent book for beginners.It is simple and to the point without waffle.Beautiful pictures with good resolution.
Great descriptions and pictures
I like this book for blood cell maturation pictures and descriptions.I really like the spriral binding for ease of use.The only complaint that I have is that it does not use all three origins for describing the cells, even if the infrequently used names were in parentheses, it would be better than eliminating them entirely, i.e.Proerythroblast (pronormoblast, rubriblast).I had to write all over the book including all of the naming conventions, so I thought they should have been included.
