More authoritative, readable and practical than Harrison's
You may just be interested in only Harrison's and may ignor Cecil's. But if you pay some attentions and seriously consider Cecil's, I am sure you will find out a lot of superb practical chapters and approaches to patients. Many of the chapters were written by world experts and authorities. Compared with Harrison's, Cecil's may contain more world experts and authorities. Many many chapters, written by the authors from the major well known subspecialty textbooks, were excellent and easy to understand. I highly recommend this textbook to medical students, internal medicine residents and internists.
An authentic world class premier book
This authentic world class bookis truly amazing. It contains enormous information which is recent and evidence-based.The updates that feature online weekly are simply superb.The algorithms and tables in colour are reader friendly.The authors, Professors Goldman and Ausiello, have kept up its basic structure while carrying out extensive renewals.The paper colour is the only drawback and it could have been more white and appealing.The book in paperback cover now in India could have been hardbound as before.Kudos to Elsevier and the editors.

I am using this book for my current Nursing program, and thus far has been very helpful.It breaks everything down, and gives several examples and opportunities for practice.It also builds on everything you've already learned so that you can see how to apply it.I found the pre-test and post-test to be great so that you can gain an understanding of what your math level is before and after reviewing the 1st 8 chapters.If you are already good at basic math, you can skip the first 8 chapters because they are just a review.Overall, a great book, and not hard to understand. ... Saunders Pharma ceutical Word Book
This Word Book is WONDERFUL, and definitely should be with anyone doing medical transcription!The format makes it very easy to locate drug names, and even note briefly what the drug is used for.
Excellent drug reference for Medical Transcriptionists
This book has everything.I know that after I check my other resources, the internet, and this book, then the drug will not be found with the description provided and I know I can leave a blank without fear of being accused of doing an incomplete job.Other transcriptionists that I have worked with highly recommended this book before I bought it so I already knew I was getting the best.I cannot wait until the 2007 version comes out on CD ROM.

Pronunciation
I am not fully satisfied with the 'Audio' part of the SEMD as we click to hear the word pronunciation. Some words are abruptly ended without being fully pronounced. Think something wrong with the audio editing. Further spell-check could have been included as part of this Dictionary as most people refer to Dictionaries not only for the 'meaning' but also for the correct spelling of the words too. I personally can't afford to buy another edition for spell-check of medical terms alone!
Truly Awesome!
As a new transcriptionist (without any formal training), I was struggling with medical terms. Stedman's Spellchecker has improved my speed and skills immensely. You can simply right click on a misspelled word and the correct spelling is brought up. Click on the correct spelling and it is inserted into your document. It is truly awesome!Read more

Incredible informative pocketguide for SLP's!
Wonderful guide and so easy to read.Very concise and easy to flip to the exact disorder you are wondering how to treat or assess!One of the best SLP books I have!

I know the techniques work from personal experience
The author of this book also happens to be my speech therapist. I suspect he's been using these treatments on me, and they've been working. To the snake oil guy: if there is any bias in this book, it is towards effectiveness. Unlike mentalistic psychology (believe me, we've had endless arguments about mentalism vs. behavioralism), Dr. Hegde tries to use the scientific method to approach any number of communicative disorders. The treatments are based in the scientific method, and are, by definition, verifiable, repeatable, and emperical. No mentalism here!

Wonderful Reference
This is an excellent resource for a practicing speech-language pathologist in any setting. It quickly reminds you of all of the things you learned in graduate school, but have since forgotten. It is much easier to look up information here than to dig through all of your old textbooks and notes. I am shocked that Amazon even printed the earlier review giving this text only one star. It did the job

Mathematical & Biostatistical Epidemiological Methods
This is a very good textbook and reference for those seeking to model and understand epidemiology techniques.Calculus and probability theory are introduced at a basic level and the book progresses onto advanced concepts of statistical modeling.It has an A to Z format which makes it useful for looking up topics easily.The book starts out with fundamental techniques but explores complicated topics in greater detail toward the end of the single volume.I really like it as an MPH Student interested in epidemiology and plan on using it alot more in my career.Five Hundred dollars is alot, but probably worth it.This book is possibly not an absolute necessity, but I am glad I purchased it when I did, in the first year of the MPH Program.

Psychiatrist Review
This book really "works"-it's getting rid of the stress in my medical practice.The text is fast reading, no-balony, actually entertaining-loaded with great examples, quotes, and vignettes that drive home the many pearls (and a fair scattering of diamonds) or practical wisdom.I was immediately able to tell this book was written by practicing docs just like me:no wheezy absrtractions, no boring theory-mongoring, and no long lists of desirable (but impossible-to -achieve) "ideal" practices.Instead this is smart, practical stuff I have been able to use immediately to save myself hassles and wasted time/motion/effort.I highly recommend to all physicians the section on how to leverage your relationships to produce more, and also the section on continuing education, which was an eye-opener for me.I personally feel that every practicing physician should have a copy of this book,and use what's in it.Get this book today-it will work for you.

The book is in okay condition, however the cover was a little torn.It included both CD's which I use to suppliment the course.

There are better books out there.....
This book is a good introduction to medical terminology.It is not as comprehensive as some that are on the market, though.My edition did not come with a CD, but shows it as an optional tool.This book lacks a glossary and pronunciation of the medical terms.It does explain body processes in a way that makes it easy for the novice to understand, and that makes the book worth owning. ... I Hide Mine...
I have bought at least 3 earlier versions of this book.While it can't have every abbreviation, since some doctors are fond of making up their own, it still comes very close.Because I work in an acute care hospital reviewing the records for coding purposes, this book is worth every penny.It's hard enough to deal with the proverbial physician scrawl without trying to figure out the latest acronym.I'll share this book with others in the Medial Record department, but I never leave it out of my sight:)

Medicine is not an exact science, but it doesn't mean that doctors (and nurses) can make up their own abbreviations or use ones that have three conflicting meanings! I am now able to make them aware how dangerously they are practicing, and the backup source to point it out. Since they now "borrow your book Marylou", transcribing orders is not only safer, but less stressfull as it has cut down on "bogus" abbreviations. Great book,I use it daily!

Expensive, but certainly the best illustrated anatomy atlas
While perhaps one of the more expensive human anatomy atlases, Sobotta is definitely the best illustrated atlas of human anatomy available. But remember that Sobotta comes in two separate volumes. Volume 1 having the head, neck and upper extremities; and volume 2 with everything else. So when buying, remember that you must get both books for the whole body.

The Language of Medicine
overall I am very happy with my purchase.The book arrived in good condition and in a timely manner.

Make easy Medicine
This book is really a great book.It makes figuring out and understanding medical terms a breeze.The exercises are incredibly easy because they are using the rote method.I think the author is using the rote method because it's pretty effective.The terms are clearly explained.The book is easy to follow and the CD that comes with it also uses rote.It might seem mindless, but after doing the 1st few chapters, I was able to read my A&P books without any problem (I have never taken A&P class yet).So if you need to understand and parse medical terms in a hurry, this is the book for you.It's well worth the price.

Much better than I expected!
I must say that I was pleasantly surprised at the size and quality of this book! I happened to purchase the 6th edition, and I'm glad I did. The first thing that caught my eye was the impressive layout. Next, I was impressed with the colors and awesome diagrams! The book also comes with a CD-ROM program (which includes images and video clips) that is truly helpful in testing and evaluating what you've learned using a variety ofstimulating methods.
