Excellent book - But it could use a "cosmetic" update
Good subject coverage, knowledgeable author, and plenty of uncluttered figures makes this book very worthwhile.The only thing missing from this excellent book is an update.Although this is the third edition (1998),almost all of the equipment photographs are from the early-to-mid 1970's. An extensive and broad Suggested Reading section follows most chapters butagain far far too many references are to early 1970's books and manuals. An update could earn this book a 5+ rating. ... Convoluted and confusing
This book is not the best as a textbook. Might be useful as a refresher or reference, but that's not what I had to use it for. It is wordy and is sometimes too detailed and sometimes not enough. It has no consistency, thanks to numerous authors. Also, the material is often outdated. Time to look for a different book.

Seeing it from clinical engineer eyes is different than seeing it from a biomedical engineer eyes; however, it is not as thoroughly covers topics as it seems from the author's repetition in the field.
Electronic Medical Instrumentation
As a coursebook, I found 'Medical Instrumentation' to be a sound survey of electrical medical diagnostic instrumentation.The book does review electrical therapeutic medical instrumentation; however, it's coverage is not as thorough.Read more

Very helpful study guide
Of the several books I own on surgical instrumentation, this one has the most clear and useful pictures of the instruments.The spiral binding is student-friendly and the info on each picture is a helpful study guide.I would recommend this book to anyone trying to learn their instruments.

Anyone who needs help with surgical instruments this is a very good book. It has pictures of the instruments far away and up close so you can see the tips.

The Best Photo Manual Out There!!!
This is the best photo manual I ever purchased! This book got me through school with ease. I was the first one in my class to buy the book. When I showed it to my classmates, they loved it and EVERY SINGLE ONE of my classmates bought it. I especially like that the picture is on one page and the name and description of the instrument on another. This layout makes it very handy for quizzing yourself or quizzing each other. I have other photo manuals that are no where near as helpful as this one! Purchase this book. You will not be disapointed!

Making Life Easier
What an impressive book - you get 400+ pages of ways to make life more comfortable for someone with Alzheimers.These also help the caregiver in a variety of situations.

Poorly written; mistakes in formulas and physiology throughout the book
This book needed quite a bit of editing. There are mistakes in the physiology overview sections of the book. There are formulas that are flat out incorrect. The english is poor. There are statements near the end of sections in the book that are not expounded upon. There are figures with captions that do not explain them. This isnt just a problem here or there but a recurring problem throughout the entire book. This book was needed for a course in biomedical instrumentation but with all the errors throughout the book, I would not recommend this to any Professor thinking of using it.

Invaluable
I got an earlier edition of this book in Physical Therapy school and it was invaluable in teaching the finer points of goniometry.I constantly used it as a source of information, until I became comfortable with measuring joint range of motion. Since I am now working in the inpatient arena, I mostly repeatedly measure knees, but refer back to it when I need to brush up on another joint.It has clear pictures and overall is a great reference book for anyone who has to evaluate joint ranges of motion. ... Nothing New, OK for beginners
This book brings nothing new to the table.It is a re-hash of any other useability engineering book.On top of that, it simply outlines topics.This would be good for a beginner only.Having several authors brings some different views, but makes reading difficult.Yet the most dissapointing is that the main author, Wiklund, is the worst writer in this text.This feels only like an attempt to make money from a useability textbook on medical devices, instead of an actual attempt to convey useful information that could help engineers improves lives. ... Summarizes FDA rules, but does not discuss them
I bought the book based on only one review, but was a bit disappointed. It did indeed list all relevant code, and referenced it for further study, but the codes themselves are hardly self-explanatory. Except for some introductory comments, there was very little in the way of further explanation on the topics in this book. Good at laying out the rules
