In Agreeance
I agree with the other reviewer - their emphasis on timing having to be perfect has caused quite a lot of anxiety for me.After all, there's only so much we can control about this process and the rest is part nature, part luck. I would reccomend this book to someone doing home IVI's with fresh sperm, but it will only cause more angst to those doing frozen IUI's with their doctor.

Ok, but a tad melodramatic
This was the first pregnancy book I read.Frankly, I found it a bit scary.The authors clearly had a very hard time with conception and with their small-town North Carolina doctors.That seems to have made them a tad fanatical about moms-to-be doing *everything* "right" or they'll never have a child.And I'm not sure the authros' (expectation and) experience of homophobia is particularly informative for those of us in more progressive settings.I very much appreciate the info. It could happen again
Although this is a book about a specific place during a specific period, what makes it so chilling is how it describes a descent of little steps into a nightmare world.For those who may even have lived through it thinking "it wasn't that bad," this book provides the opportunity to take a step back and realize "it was worse than we even imagined."Ms. Kligman's account is clarion call for the importance of taking a stand in every society in order to preserve the values we hold dear, but which are in fact as fragile as the weakest among us.

Vai, Alexandru, n-a fost atat de rau!
I'm an American woman living and working in Romania, and I have to disagree with Alexandru.From all I hear from my friends both male and female, this book isn't off-target at all.It IS true that many people sayCeasescu's policies didn't affect their lives "all that much",but the people who did have unwanted pregnancies or were harassed becausethey didn't have enough children were and are real people.I enjoyed thisbook and would recommend it to anyone interested in reproductive issues --in either Romania or the U.S.

Unprofessionally written, innacurate statistics
None ofthedata are believable! The statistics are made up and it lacks objectivity as if written by an emotional and nervous wreck. Originally from Romania, I can testify that data on births and abortion could not andcannot yet be obtained, also the reasoning behind data is consequentlyfalse. Sperm Wars-A great theory
Although the author has a vast knowledge of animal husbandry, I believe he makes some leaps across the boundaries of genus and species to prove his theories with that knowledge. Overall the book was great on many levels.It gives us a good insight to the behavioral imprinting of sexual habits that most people do in fact make.I am in agreement with the author on a lot of his assumptions, but the hard facts are not presented in this book, at least not for human subjects. I'm glad I bought it because it gives us a lot to think about in the realm of human sexuality.
Fun stuff from the strange laboratory of nature....
Who would've thought that mastrubation, oral sex, rape, S & M and homosexuality have reproductive advantages?Or that every human sexual behavior and perversion has an equivalent in birds or monkeys?
Seduction, Stimulation, Social interaction, and Deception.
All the makings of a epic, so forget 'the rules'!

Immensely helpful guide to PMS
I bought Dr. Taylor's book as soon as it came out and it's been an immensely helpful guide in helping me (along with the help of my therapist and ob/gyn) realize how powerful hormones can be - it's been a huge relief to realize that it's not "all in my head"! I found the exercises, especially the PMS tracking chart, to be very insightful. If PMS or PMDD is an issue for you and you like self-help books, I highly recommend Taking Back the Month.

excellent resource for women, clinicians, and educators
Taylor and Colino have written an excellent research-based guide to managing PMS. I have used the examples and guides found in the book to teach women in the clinical setting, and I have used it to teach nurse practitioner students about options for PMS management. I particularly like the straight forward suggestions that target healthy lifestyle choices. Women who follow the diet, exercise, and stress management guidelines that effectively manage symptoms of PMS have the added benefit of knowing they are contributing to their overall health. Thank you for this wonderful contribution to women's health.

Every woman should read this book!
I am a menopausal mother with a pubescent daughter. Both of us are free of hormonal troubles, thanks largely to the advice of this terrific book. It is so full of facts and figures, from both regular and alternative medicine. It covers every possible scenario. I can't imagine anyone that couldn't find a solution for their specific needs. This book is easy to use because each chapter relates to your specific interest, or you can read it cover to cover, which I suggest, since it has great advice on living a successful, healthful, stress free life. I particularly like how, at the end of a chapter, you're given ways to assess your condition and "to do" lists that help solve specific problems. Excellent
This book presents the historical background behind obstetric anesthesia.In covering the developments in anesthesia, the author also summarizes major developments in the general field of medicine, especially since the 1840s.He stresses how much medicine changed from 1800 to 1900, and how the discovery and development of anesthesia played an important role in these changes.He also points out how medicine evolved from being based on tradition and assumptions into a truly scientific field during this period, and how by the end of this period, doctors could no longer simply claim that a procedure worked- -they actually had to prove it with carefully designed studies. My husband and I both found this book very informative and well written.Having received it as a gift while expecting our second child this timely and thoughtful gift gave us new issues and angles to consider regarding anesthesia and childbirth.This book is written in a clear, concise style and is easily understood by those not in the medical field.I would highly recommend this book to expectant mothers/fathers and to their ob/gyn physicians and nurses.We gave this book to the physician who delivered our beautiful son.

what a blessing we have this book
The obvious problem this author has is that if you have not given birth or are not thinking about it, you may not be that interested in the topic. Actually, Caton does quite a good job of showing how debates about use of anesthesia in childbirth tie in to larger cultural debates about medicine,progress, and the meaning of pain. In simple language, and with a goodeffort at giving all points of view fairly, he goes over both thescientific history of how drugs became available for childbirth and thesocial history of how the public (including doctors) responded. Yes, I didread it just after I had my child -- and I enjoyed it. I live in Japanwhere the debate over ``natural'' childbirth rages on. Very Informative
This book is very detailed in letting you know about the pros and cons of Progesterone vs. Estrogen. I found it to be very informative and actually am following the progeterone protocol and am having positive results. It was just good to know that what I was going though was not menopause but perimenopause and its not such a scary word once you know what it is all about.I would recommend this book to anyone interested in finding out the truth about what estrogen (estrogen dominance) can really do to you if you do not get the correct info. from the right sources.

Very technical read for a patient!
This book is a compilation of case studies.It is a technical read for a patient of acupucture going through IVF.There is a ton of valuable information in this book, it's just very hard to get through it if you aren't trained to decifer all the lingo.For a doc, I'm sure it's an easy read!

Excellent book!
This book is awesome!This is not a registry review book or anything, but for someone going into OB/GYN ultrasound this book is fabulous.It includes descriptions, signs/symptoms, and an US pic.This is really helpful with pathology that you may have heard of, but are not familiar with.Excellent book!
