finally, objective coverage of this subject without preaching
ive read several books on this topic, and this is the best of them.the author faces the reality that humans will take advantage of emerging genetic technologies as they become available, safe, and affordable.it really is an "inevitable genetic future", but most authors are lost on that fact as they yammer endlessly about this and that precaution.people are comfortable with the status quo and try to preserve it.pioneers see that it wont last and look beyond.make no mistake, this author too addresses precautions but doesnt overdo it like other commentators.the authors stance on redesigning humans is not so much unqualified support for it as it is acceptance of its inevitability.the author does support it but in a dignified manner i thought, not in a cheerleading fashion.
A Candid Look at Man's Future
Throughout the world, there are ongoing debates over whether the human genome should be tampered with.Legislation has already been passed prohibiting numerous variants of genetic engineering as it applies to humans.But in this book, Gregory Stock explains that we will eventually have the technology to change ourselves intrinsically, and that we will also use it.He strongly advises us to look toward the future and make decisions regarding how this newfound knowledge should be used, instead of simply whether it should be used.
Convincing, to a point
Gregory Stock writes well, and Redesigning Humans is an enjoyable read. Beyond that, nothing he puts foward is beyond the realm of reasonable possibility. Just the same, read with a bit of skepticism. He's a bit too much of a futurist, and while that's obviously the intention and draw of the book, I think it's much more worthwhile contrasted with something like Flesh and Machines: How Robots Will Change Us by Rodney Brooks ... Misleading, unfortunately
It's true that a woman's general health may play a role in her fertility (and certainly in her ability to carry a healthy pregnancy), and that certain medical problems can drastically increase the risk of infertility (untreated polycystic ovary syndrome, STDs).This book might be useful in suggesting some testing that women in their early 30s might do to help them decide how long it might be relatively safe to delay trying to conceive.

Excellent review on gynecological pathology
This book, written by Philip Clement, one of the contributor of the Blaustein's pathology of the female genital tract, presents a very good summary of the pertinent information about gynecological pathology. Most of the details are similar from the Blaustein's, but they are more concise and to-the-point. The only problem is that the information is not very up-to-date, but any residents preparing for exams or practicing pathologists should supplement textbooks with recent literature, no matter how recent it is published. Outdated information
I made the mistake of purchasing his older book called The A.R.T. of making babies updated edition. Do not buy unless your doing a research paper. This book was written in 1998 and the information is outdated. Make sure you purchase the 2005 edition. I wish amazon.com would have made this clearer. I did read it anyways and had the bookbeen filled with updated information it could be informative. I found the "Couple's guide to In Vitro Fertilization a much better book. Having recently gone through the procedure it was right on the money and very easy to read and understand.

Good source of information
My husband and I recently found out that IVF was probably our only hope at having a biological child.We live in an area where IVF is basically non-existent... as is the information that we've received.I wanted to find out everything I could about the IVF process, expenses, etc.This book was an excellent source of information from fertility testing, to the entire IVF process.It also went into depth on new procedures that can be used along with IVF.VERY inforamtive, and I would recommend to anyone craving knowledge about IVF.

Excellent reference guide
Susan Lark has provided a very good source of dietary information to help you control your fibroids.You start to understand the connection and to also understand that your body is just a little too good at some of thethings it does for you. Clear, concise, and covers most current knowledge..
A short, biceps-friendly "textbook" on reproduction that covers most of the current knowledge in the field. Very well organized, and beautifully set up. Look at those colorful pictures and diagrams. I enjoyreading this book very much.But, when we were preparing for ourendocrinology exam, we found something in table 3.4, p.39, on luteinizinghormone structure - it says that the beta-subunit of LH has twocarobohydrate chains (instead of one?). Hopefully it's just a small typo.Well, nobody's perfect. I still give it nine out of ten.

This book is a MUST HAVE for Nursing Students!
