Essentials of Nursing Research
Contacted seller to return the item because it was the wrong edition and recieved no response.

Not all it is cracked up to be
This book obviously rests on the laureates of Polit and Hungler who were once well known for their research texts.This is just a revision of the same old...same old. The chapter on qualitative research is incomplete, and the examples are outdated.There are many newer more up to date and creative texts that focus the students to CRITICALLY think about what they are reading as they read it.This text does not.Keep it on the shelf, or use it as a doorstop.

Not as impressive as I first thought
Daniel obviously knows his statistics; but, I wouldnt think that is too helpful for individuals reading or studying from his textbook.
Excellent Text for 2nd Statistics Class
I'm taking my first biostatistics class in medical school, but the text I am using in class (Rosner) has lost me.I subsequently borrowed Daniel's book from the library (only because it has 7th editions), and I am glad that I picked it!Daniel is a good writer.The book is well organized and laid out.Important concepts are emphased and explained with minimum mathematics involved.The well thought out examples are worth working through as well for clarification of the applications of important concepts.However, as a beginner in statistics, I was lost in the midst of mathematics on certain concepts (given that I have a relatively strong mathematics background) without really understanding the meaning of some very basic terms, like percentile, confidence intervals.

heavy on issues, provocative and with minimal mathematics
Senn is a great writer. He has written an excellent text on cross-over trials that raises many issues about when such design can be used and what their limitations are. This book covers the gamut of issues in drug development concentrating on important and sometimes subtle issues in clinical trials including design and analysis, intention to treat principle, multiple testing, Bayesian and frequentist approaches and interpretations, meta analysis, regulatory issues and ethics. Great reference text
This text is a great reference for everything from basic analysis to more advanced topics like longitudinal and time-to-event data. The book is well-written with relevant, current examples. If I had to choose one reference book, this would be it because of its depth and breadth of content (at the intermediate level).

From an M.D.'s perspective taking a Masters Degree in Stats
This was a terrible book. To say that it is user unfriendly is an understatement. It is wordy and too long, furthermore, it doesn't teach you what you need to know. It is difficult to reference things (for example, try looking up sensitivity in the index!) and the writing is very tangential. This is not a good book if you are just starting out. I would not receommend it.

nice intermediate level text in biostatistics
The authors write well and cover most of the important topics very thoroughly. They motivate the subject very well with a number of important and "real world" examples in the first chapter.Read more

The best in the business
Pett's work on nonparametric statistics is, without doubt, the best book available on nonparametric statistics.I have always been a champion of Siegel's classic.But Pett has an easy way of introducing each statistical procedure, explaining the mechanisms behind the procedure, clarifying the utilisation of the test, linking nicely with SPSS (albeit now a rather outdated version) and - best of all - gives guidelines for reporting the results.Pett's writing style is very accessible and precise - how nice to find a social worker who knows about statistics!Even novice researchers will find this book understandable.Check out her other work on factor analysis for a similarly outstanding work. ... MLA Style Guide...a great resource in most cases
When I picked this book up I was simply looking for ways to cite internet resources.It turns out the people at MLA have got a lot more to offer.The book did a great job at showing the hows and whys of writing well.Asfor citations, a critical aspect of most research, the Guide gave amultitude of different types of sources and how to cite them, not only inthe Works Cited but also in endnotes and footnotes.Perhaps my onlycomplaint would be the repetition in seperate chapters on citation.It wasnot initially clear what the purpose of the repetition was.That said, Iwill use this book again and again as a perfect tool when writing mypapers. ... An eye-opening expose and 'must have' acquisition.

Bold Expose without Sensationalism
In a remarkably bold 'report', the lurking dangers of recent trends in clinical trials through contract research organizations is well presented. Without adopting an obvious higher moral ground nor using a broad brush to paint all of Big Pharma as pure evil (as some recent books on Big Pharma have done), the author focuses purely on the issue of clinical trials. Using recent examples from various companies (all familiar names to the average reader), the author poses interesting ethical questions regarding the "use" of patients in developing countries.In a series of interesting observations, the author explains why it is more "economical" and "practical" for drug companies to perform the FDA-required trials using measures such as "events" (number o f deaths during a particular number of days, or n'th death).While the bulk of the book is devoted to examples ranging from India, Latin America, and Africa to discuss the modalities of clinical trials and raise pertinent questions, the conclusion of the book is not very substantial.However, the author does point out that drugs should be seen as "social goods" and not mere new products; thus the means of developing them should be fair. limited use
I found the information on behaviour and animal welfare to be limited and, in places, questionable.For example the use of single animal hanging cages is treated as standard husbandry -- despite the strong recommendation in most national laws and guidleines that social contact and environmental enrichment be provided to rats in the laboratory.

Excellent Ref Book
This book has a lot to say....excellent reference book. If you do anything with the rat, then you need this book inspite of the price. The authors did a thorough job.

Important but overpriced.
This book is a welcome addition for the in vivo investigator; we know so much about the theoretical bases of our experiments, but how many of us really have any formal knowledge of our most important research tools, theanimals themselves?For this reason, and in the interest of the generalwelfare of my experimental rats, I bought the book.There is muchinteresting and useful information presented by veterinarians whospecialize in lab animal medicine.Read more
