5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent, comprehensive, and easy to use
The Manual is a complete guide to the AMA style and also an excellent grammar book. The topics are easy to find and the tables and lists are comprehensive. It is a great companion to The Chicago Manual of Style because it details the grammar preferred by the AMA and contains needed terminology. This is a necessary reference for medical publications proofreaders and editors.

5-0 out of 5 stars A style manual you will rarely close
The specific goal of the American Medical Association Manual of Style: A Guide for Authors and Editors is to codify and collect the myriad instructions, rules, and dictums that AMA applies to the many journals, books, and other publications that are printed under its imprint. The more general goal, perhaps not stated, is to broaden the influence of those standards so they encompass more of the medical publishing community. 5-0 out of 5 stars thank you cheryl verson for that work

5-0 out of 5 stars the reader that couldn't stop reading it
For anybody interested in 4 hours of no sleep, buy this book. It is reasonably priced and fills a heretofore empty niche especially the parts written from the author's practical experience.

4-0 out of 5 stars I liked it
I had to buy this book for my Quantity Foods course as a part of my Dietetics major. I actually liked the book, and I am going to keep it for later use. I thought the book was organized very well. Some of the charts in Chapter 2 and 5 that we used quite often were a little hard to find (because there are so many!).
5-0 out of 5 stars Wow!!! A must have for all chefs
I had seen this book at a friends business and thought it was good.Since I have ordered and received it I have had the chance to really review the contents and find it one book that I can use daily. The CD rom is also fantastic in the number of recipes it contains. One nice feature is that you can size the recipes to what you need.Another great plus.Well worth the money. 5-0 out of 5 stars brilliant, brilliant textbook
This is a great textbook!A brilliant summation of dental implantology and restoration of implants. The text is incisive, ultra-modern, and is the product of a master thinker who understands his craft with brilliance bordering on genius. The author has written a text that is very rare in that it can impart a brilliant intuitive understanding of its subject to the reader. Most dental textbooks fail in this regard. One of the best dental textbooks ever written.Excellent illustrations and influential text that will provide the reader with a strong intuition about implantology.A truly evidence-based text, where the author takes great pains to cite just the right study to illustrate the right concept at the right time in the text.A welcome departure from much of the drivel that passes for dental scholarship nowadays. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book - But it could use a "cosmetic" update
Good subject coverage, knowledgeable author, and plenty of uncluttered figures makes this book very worthwhile. The only thing missing from this excellent book is an update.Although this is the third edition (1998),almost all of the equipment photographs are from the early-to-mid 1970's. An extensive and broad Suggested Reading section follows most chapters butagain far far too many references are to early 1970's books and manuals. An update could earn this book a 5+ rating. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Thorough, but not an everyday "users guide" to fats & oils
Enig's discussion is thorough, and a necessary correction to the nutrition science and food industy's deceptions concerning fats and cholesterol, all in the service of marketing transfat-laden food. However, the book is not that "user-friendly" for the non-scienfically-inclined, who are concerned about eating and health.
5-0 out of 5 stars Know Your Fats, EAT Your Fats
This is a great source of information on fats and oils, and even though I also have "Nourishing Traditions" and "Eat Fat, Lose Fat," I still felt that I learned something new. My health certainly has improved since I've incorporated more saturated fat in my diet.

5-0 out of 5 stars The most *essential* book on the nature of fats by a true scientist
Ignore the anonymous "reader"'s review titled "Disappointing." Anonymous reviews immediately create a suspect impression. For all anyone might know, the "reader" could be a well-known other "author" of a popular book on fats. The "reader" in his review does not come up with a cohesive enough overview on why Dr. Enig's book is "disappointing." He complains of issues that has nothing to do with Dr. Enig's research as a scientist, how the chemical structures and patterns of fatty acids *and* most importantly, how they work in the human body. He does not prove in any way of how Dr. Enig's knowledge of lipid chemistry fails. His assertion that the fatty acids in animal fat has changed from 100 years ago is a no-brainer and a plainly dumb arguing point: of course the quality of the fatty acids have changed, because most of the way animals are raised today is so different from how they were 100 years ago: conditions, feeding, and treatment. The only way one may compare a cow from 100 years ago is to raise them on pastures, in organic methods. It is a self-evident factor that we should only be eating animals raised naturally, out of warehouses, without synthetic injections.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very comprehensive introduction to the field
This text is the best introductory book available, it is comprehensive and will serve the reader as a reference throughout his/her career. The authors have made a significant contribution to the field with this text and will help many biomedical engineering programs and their students.

3-0 out of 5 stars Errors make it hard to learn
I've used this book now in 2 classes (including one taught by an author of one of the chapters) and have both times found the book hard to use.It is full of so many small errors you can never be sure whether the problems you are having are because you don't understand the material, or if there is another mistake in that section.Very frustrating. The problems are not limited to explicit errors either, there are issues with the presentation that makes me think it was poorly edited as well.Style, order, and omission of important points are among the sins. Some sections are pretty good, though.1-0 out of 5 stars review of biomedical engineering handbook

5-0 out of 5 stars Your Lifesaver in Fluid & Electrolytes Ocean!
I purchased this book with some doubt, because you see a very high variability in these series. Now, i am very happy. Every medical student and resident gets frustrated with fliuid and electrolytes. Reading textbooks makes it worse. I have seen a lot of attendings and Nephrologists (!!) who are scared of this subject. This book can help you tremendously. It is written in a very simple language and gives you the proper approach to fluid and electrolyte problems. It is full of practical examples that you will see every day and shows you how to solve them. After reading this book, you will be confident enough to deal with electrolytes. Instead of replacing electrolytes blindly with K-Dur and Neutra-Phos and .... and not knowing what to do with Hyponatremia, you will have a nice framework in your brain to deal with them. And the best part: It is a small book. Don't hesitate to get it. You won't regret.

2-0 out of 5 stars Good but not good enough!
This book does only provide some miner basic understanding of Na, K, and acid base pathophysiology and replacement. Other e-lytes such as magnesium, calcium, phosphor and especially the interaction of those is completely missing. The acid base part is ok for getting a basic understanding of whats going on.
5-0 out of 5 stars Practically Life savor for both you and patient
I hardly anytime would give "5" stars to any products, but this just blew my doubts and misunderstanding out to pieces. I don't want to sound too explicit, but actually it's better than sex when you understand something and everything come to senses.

    Editorial Review

Mehmet Oz is a Renaissance man of cardiac care, combining yoga, aromatherapy, hypnosis, energy healing, music therapy, acupuncture, and visual imagery into his surgery practice at the Complementary Care Unit of New York City's Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center. He's adamant that the relationship between traditional and alternative medicine should be symbiotic, not mutually exclusive. His patients are proof of this: when treated holistically, not as just "another transplant patient" with a plaque-addled heart, they perceive less pain during surgery and recuperation, are less likely to suffer depression, and heal more quickly.Read more

Dr. Oz, the heart wizard, is of Turkish descent and attempts to combine East and West traditions of healing during post-surgery.He is a heart surgeon located in New York City.First of all,he is searching for the elusive one universal healing endeavor. Some things we all need are recommended such as Love is a major healing force, as is religious faith in one God.He is of the opinion that modern medicine is not perfect.Nothing is perfect, not even beauty, he says.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Good Combination
The view that all types of medicine (western and eastern) working together makes sense. This book seems to encorage a balance between both.I enjoyed it.

    5-0 out of 5 stars a life-changing read
This is the most amazing nutrition book I've ever read- and I've read many. The amount of data, the photographs, the anecdotes, all point to an obvious conclusion. I am simply shocked that his work is not better known. After reading this book I understand why the health of so many in the world today is so poor. This book provides all the answers. I know with absolute certainty now what constitutes a healthy diet. This book will fascinate you, educate you, and leave you feeling shocked. HIGHLY recommended!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Answer to our Dietary and Health Confusion
One day we are told that fats are bad and that we must avoid them at all costs.Next we are told that carbs are the enemy. The experts cannot seem to make up their minds on which individual foods are good for you and which are bad.If all else fails, they fall back on the need for "moderation".Wouldn't it be nice if there were some really rock-solid nutritional research one could rely upon?Wouldn't it be comforting if we had research more compelling than "Food X just might raise your blood cholesterol a bit, and if that happens you just might be at a slightly higher risk for getting heart disease?"
5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing! The book anyone should read that cares about their health!
The single most important book ever written on diet. Thank goodness Dr. Price did his investigations when he did. I am finishing my PhD in holistic nutrition and this is the most important book I have read in my studies. Get it, read it and understand it! Then eat like our ancestors ate! ... Read more

    Editorial Review

There's a "Frank & Ernest" comic strip showing a chick breaking out of its shell, looking around, and saying, "Oh, wow! Paradigm shift!" Blame the late Thomas Kuhn. Few indeed are the philosophers or historians influential enough to make it into the funny papers, but Kuhn is one.Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Kuhn's rights and wrongs
Kuhn, like Popper before him, noticed a very important truth but failed to see it clearly and mixed it with a terribly harmful mistake. Before explaining that truth and that mistake, I would like to clarify the meaning of the term paradigm which Kuhn used in presenting his ideas. As he later acknowledged, he gave two different definitions of this term: (a) a paradigm is a successful model that is imitated to acquire new scientific knowledge, and (b) a paradigm is made up of all accepted knowledge and the methods and means of acquiring new knowledge. These two definitions become one if we assume that the concept "model" covers all accepted knowledge and the methods and means of acquiring new knowledge. The use of terms that are not clearly defined facilitates making mistakes.
5-0 out of 5 stars good read
One of its kind in its own subject area. Kuhn writes with clarity and passion to develop a plausible thesis about scientific discovery and how it comes about

5-0 out of 5 stars Comments as the driver of a new scientific revolution ina sub-field of physics
Thomas Kuhn's book has provided comfort for me personally. There is no need to go into the details of his arguments. For example, whether the old generation has to die before paradigm shift can take place is not the issue. The issue is whether scientists resist anything new that cannot be fitted into the existing paradigm.Whether it took ten years or a lifetime for people to accept the theory of the origin of ulcers is irrelevant.I am disagreeing with the review by Peter Hobson (Groton, CT USA), 12/25/2005].What's important is the initial reaction of the community to new ideas.I have evidence to support the observations and analysis by T. Kuhn.
