4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent source of tasks to be applied in the doctor's office!
This book is an important guide who will assist the interested parties in identifying and to choose strategies for the stress management.

5-0 out of 5 stars So much better than the Davis/McKay workbook!
I am a therapist and have been looking for decent stress management workbook for my clients. Eureka! I found it here. This book exceeded all expectations. It's excellent! The feedback from my clients is unanimous: Achieving the Mind-Body-Spirit Connection is extremely user friendly, with an uplifing positive approach. The exercises (over 70) are exceptional. My opinion is that the Davis/McKay book cannot hold a candle to this new stress management workbook. The world will be a better place for it. I give it my highest recommendation! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book
As a Shiatsu (3rd year)student, this book is so helpfull for me, that I am using it every day.
5-0 out of 5 stars What a great book!
This is the definitive book on feng shue!It is not for people who are looking for fluff - this is serious, and well thought out.It has really worked to get me to focus on the important things in life and has helped in explaining the balance that we all need to have. I am now giving this book as a gift to people I care about!Thank you, Ms. Reichstein, for writing such a wonderful book.

5-0 out of 5 stars You will be amazed !
We all love now to take care of our own health, right ?! Few of us understand, though, the Chinese medicine, unless you read a lot of books on same subject. And then you have to "digest" the information and apply it patiently to yourself. WE ALL ARE UNIQUE INDIVIDUALS. And the ones who will borrow or buy this book will prove to be the smart ones too. Not only that I would recommend this book to all of you who want to change your life for the better (and get rid of your daily pains) but this book --among the thousands written -- is an eye-opener to many other self-healing directions. Beware, at first you will say to yourself that you will need TIME and PATIENCE to go through it (which none of us HAVE anymore!), but you will feel smarter than any doctor in this world, after you assimilate the knowledge in this book. It is better than you imagined by its modest title. One of the best-kept secrets (until now !), trust me on this one. Good luck to all of you ! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A masterpiece of social research
Margaret Lock discusses how organ transplant interests fostered the notion of brain death in North America and Japan. Until recently, Japan did not accept brain death as a sufficient criterion of death, even when the Japanese had all the technology and medical skills to carry out organ transplantation. By contrasting the muted discussion about brain death in North America with the heated, well informed public debates in Japan, Lock makes readers uncomfortable. Are people declared brain dead in America really dead, or do neurologists simply assume that they are dead to allow transplantation to take place? When does death occur anyway; is it a process or an event? Should physicians determine death with technological guidelines, or should death be defined by the people who are the most implicated, like relatives? Lock does not provide easy answers to those questions but her exhaustive research indicates how a different consensus about brain death emerged in the East and the West.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Simplistic
Dieting for Dummies is a simplistic look at diets. Just skimming through the book you can get an idea of how to get on a diet, by cutting calories and all. The book is set up in an easy to read fashion (like other Dummy books) A good overview of dieting.

2-0 out of 5 stars Full of contradictory information
This book may be useful if you have only a modest amount to lose and know very little about weight loss.In that case, the advice here -- fill up on vegetables, don't skip meals -- may help you reach your goal. But, for anyone who has a more serious weight problem, this book may do more harm that good.
5-0 out of 5 stars This book is great

5-0 out of 5 stars Harvey Cushing - A Life in Surgery
The book is a good read, particularly to those interested in medicine and more particularly, medical history. The book is well written, informative and holds ones attention amazingly well. Although I have never read Michael Bliss (author) before, I will certainly be looking out for him in the future. I very much recommend reading the book.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best biography of Cushing
Harvey Cushing's life and achievements deserved the very best of a literary recounting and this is it. Previous biographies (including Fulton's "classic") of Cushing, the Father of Neurosurgery, were uniformly dull or disappointing. Michael Bliss has now written the very best Cushing biography and has undoubtedly set the standard for years to come. It is extremely readable despite being detailed in both the technical aspects of neurosurgery and also Cushing's private life. Cushing himself won a Pulitzer Prize for his biography of William Osler and this work is at least as good.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Biography of America's Pioneer in Neurosugery
It is a strange mystery why a man of such accomplishments and medical innovation in the history of neurosurgery, the American pioneer in fact, is not more well known in popular culture. Dr. Harvey Cushing has to be one of the most fascinating, complex and astounding medical personalities in the last century. He became the first of American medical men to be an international leader in this special field. Harvey was part of a long line of medical men, his great grandfather, grandfather and father were all competent physicians. A Yale graduate, later attending Harvard Medical and working at John Hopkins, he paved the way, as he called "The Northwest Passage", in the area of brain tumour surgery, his OR innovations, insistence on sterile working conditions, the use of clips to prevent excessive bleeding and the diagnosis of brain tumours, were all devised and applied by him, having operated on over 2000 patients with brain tumour related illnesses during his long career. This man takes the term "workaholic" and takes it to an entirely new level. A tireless researcher, recorder, bibliophile, surgeon and prolific writer, his drive and obsession for work and life, set the precedent for future surgeons. A truly remarkable individual.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fluid & Electrolytes Made Incredibly Easy
Where was this book when I was in undergraduate school? Now that I am teaching nursing I have found it very useful in that it has given me a rare opportunity to present a very complex and hard to understand block ofmaterial is a manner much easier for students to understand. It is packedwith easy to understand pictures, diagrams, and graphs that help teach theconcept in a way that is "reader friendly". The illustrations areunbelievable and a great tool used by the author to present the ideas tothe reader. I have even had requests from the Occupational Therapy facultyat our college to use the book for their lectures as well.. Great Job ! Iwould highly recommend it to anyone, whether a staff nurse or a facultymember at a university or college...

1-0 out of 5 stars Great book, if it didn't fall apart!
I am very dissapointed with the poor spiral binding on this book, (4th edition)! As a dietetic student, I don't have much money to spend on books as it is. As much as this one is priced, the publishers could have put a higher quality binding on it, (or made it a paperback, like previous editions). Pages are falling out constantly, especially since it the type of book you refer to all the time.

Editorial Review

"Alan's brain got run over by a speedboat," Cathy Crimmins writes. "Thatlast sentence reads like a bad country-western song lyric, but it's true. It wasa silly, horrible, stupid accident." And so begins the harrowing tale of afamily vacation gone awry when a speedboat collides with her husband's smallcraft, changing their lives forever. Crimmins (Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I laughed, I cried, and then I recommended it to everyone.
My wonderful husband had a brain anuerysm in 1992. I recommend this book to anyone, even if they don't know a soul with a brain injury. It's tragic, it's hysterically funny, it's soooo very real. The best book out there, on what life is like, for a family member, after a brain injury.

5-0 out of 5 stars harrowing and real
Having read several brain injury survivor memoirs, I was initially reluctant to read one written by a family member of a survivor - how could they possibly understand the experience? But Cathy Crimmins shows us 'the other side' - how the survivor can challenge everyone's tolerance with their suddenly bizarre, unsavoury, often hostile, and sadly unintended new behaviour and limitations. She doesn't sanitise the ordeal, but rather just tells it as she endured it. I'd love to read a companion book by her husband Alan (the brain injury survivor she writes about), for a look at how different the worlds of survivor and carer can be. And how about a sequel Cathy?

4-0 out of 5 stars Someone understands!
I ordered this book as a last chance - I had previously ordered and tried to understand many books that were way too technical. My husband too suffers from tramatic brain injury - this is this first book that I could relate to and know that I am not the only one going through this.It was amazing to me as Cathy describes her husband awakening from a coma and the things he first said - it could have been the same dialogue from my husband. An easy enough read, I have ordered several more copies for friends and family.Thank you for writing such a worthwhile book!!! ... Don't buy this book if you are looking for a Calorie Counter. This book is a good reference for a Nutritionist or Professional Practitioner, but not for every-day use for diet management.
2-0 out of 5 stars Fifth Edition, yet still incomplete.
I've used the Nutrition Almanac, Third Edition, for years. This 'new' addition has very few updates compared to the third. It feels like it's written by someone working strictly with Western Medicine, even though it does give a person direction to some Natural treatments for the listed ailments. Also the book does not go too deeply into describing any vitamin or mineral.
