5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Book!
This book should be required reading for anyone who recently joined Weight Watchers or is thinking of joining. I found this book to be more than helpful. This book is filled with quizzes, check-ins and wonderful advice. It also has recipes! There is a chapter related to every area of fitness plus a great chapter about biulding a transitional wardrobe. There are menu ideas for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks. I've really enjoyed this book. My only regret is not buying this book sooner.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not just for Weight Watchers members
I was surprised by how much I liked it.I had feared it'd simply be a lot of rah-rah W.W. fluff. On the contrary, it was a globally useful, general information/motivation book."Experiences last longer than flavors" and "no one but me puts food in my mouth."Lots of information on how to make INCREMENTAL changes in food quality/quantity and body movement.Lots of detailed info on things like types of fats, a very fair analysis of almost every type of weight loss method, and overcoming emotional challenges.I've read a lot of diet books in general... this one's a keeper and was definitely worth the money.150 pgs of info, 100 pgs of recipes, 15 pgs of daily goal charts.

5-0 out of 5 stars I Couldn't Put It Down!
I have been a WW leader for over 15 years and a member since 1975! I was sure that there was nothing in this book that would be new or motivating for me. I couldn't have been more wrong. This book was filled with more useful information than any single "diet" or nutrition book I've read (and, believe me, I've read them all...). Even as a leader, I hit my slumps and bumps in the road ... This book made me feel as if I were joining and embarking on new habits for the first time! It made me feel excited and enervated. Read it. You won't be sorry. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars International textbok of obesity
Childhood and adolescent obesity presents one of the most challenging and frustrating problems in medical practice. Obesity has particular concern, because of the health risk associated with it, such as hypertension, hyperlipidemia, hypertriglyceridemia, diabetes mellitus, coronary heart disease, pulmonary and renal problems, surgical risks and degenerative joint disease. All in all obesity causes significant morbidity and also a decreased life-expectancy.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Interventional procedures for the body imager as well as interventionalist.
This book is weighted towards the interventional radiologist however topics and procedures for body imagers/general radiologists would also benefit. Each procedure is covered in detail from indication, preparation, procedure, complications and post procedure information. Also covered is relavent pharmacology for the radiologist including managing contrast reactions. The size is small enough for a jacket pocket and the text is clear and concise.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Source of Information

5-0 out of 5 stars Required reading for healthcare providers
I love this book. The writing is wonderful makes you feel as though you are right there going through it with her.I could not put the book down.I have only been a nurse for 5yrs and I honestly hope that I have always treated my pts able to communicate or not with kindness and dignity.I can assure you after reading this I will most certainly be more aware of what I am doing and how I am interacting with my patients.I wish there were a sequal to know how she is doing now.I highly recommend this book.Any healthcare provider who would read this book and come away thinking Sue a whiner is not a healthcare worker I would want anywhere near me.Unfortunately Sue is accurate there are far too few compassionate healthcare providers these days in my opinion. One could hope that if more care providers were to read this book this very sad trend would change.Thank you Sue for a book giving the world the patients perspcetive of a hospital stay.I am forever greatful.

5-0 out of 5 stars Bed number Ten
This was one of the best books I have read in a long time.I ordered this bookby mail and recieved it on Friday afternoon and started reading it instantly. It is now sunday afternoon and I just finished it.I want so badly to talk to this lady to see how she is today!!To read how uncaring so many people were is so heart breaking to me.There were the few that took the time to be more attentive but everyone should have been that way!! I am a nurse at a Houston hospital and I see nurses and other staff act like that everyday and it breaks my heart because I am a very caring nurse and go above and beyond to help my patients.Every nurse needs to read this book to see how people can be feeling when you treat them that way!!I would recommend this book to everyone I work with and know!!

5-0 out of 5 stars A real tearjerker!
I am an RN and all too often, patients are faced with uncaring caregivers who perceive meeting patient's needs as "too much trouble". If there is a medical person who perceives Sue as a "whiner", I would not want that person to enter my room! The book is a compelling novel, I could not put it down! It included wonderful stories of her travels and family. I wished the book was longer, I hated for it to end. I cried throughout the last portion of the book because it was so touching. The one thing I think it lacks is getting its point across to caregivers. Some caregivers are too uncaring to fully comprehend the torture Sue went through lying there day after day, unable to move or speak, being at the mercy of others. I put it on my list as one of the best books I have ever read! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Keep this book by the microscope
This is the book that tells you how to actually do effective microscopy.Keep a copy by the microscope.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Introductory-Level Textbook
Dr. Murphy constructs a solid foundation on the basic concepts of geometrical optics, light, and color, and then provides excellent introductory reviews of important topics in light microscopy. The book is very well written and complex phenomena are clearly explained without the unnecessary math that often confuses students.Illustrations are numerous and help support the text very nicely, as do the suggested laboratory exercises that accompany each chapter.Discussions of digital cameras and image processing are timely and provide the essential concepts necessary to tackle more advanced treatises. In the opinion of the Molecular Expressions microscopy website team, this book is by far the best entry-level textbook in the field.

5-0 out of 5 stars Well Written and Useful
"This well written text provides a clear, uncluttered overview of the principles and practice of modern light microscopy. It contains many helpful teaching exercises and diagrams. It should prove useful in a wide range of courses from the undergraduate to the postgraduate level."Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Tuskegee Experiment & Crack Epidemic
Bad Blood points out that the US Surgeon General at the time was Hugh Smith Cumming. In 1939 he was responsible more than any other person for creating the system we now have in place that controls narcotics and other banned substances which San Jose Mercury News journalist and Pulitizer Prize Winner, Gary Webb, said was controlled by a handful of power elites through the CIA.
4-0 out of 5 stars African-American Victims Of Government Laboratory Experiments!!!
One of the least known facts of U.S. history is the government sponsored syphilis experiment conducted upon 399 African-American men from 1932 to 1972.Over the course of these five decades, the U.S. Public Health Service exploited African-American sharecroppers in its effort to determine if the long-term affects of syphilis were different for black people than it was for white people. During the trials, the doctors who conducted the experimentations intentionally denied these men treatment; never informed them of syphilis' destructiveness to their health; and ignored the fact that these men were infecting their respective wives and sexual partners with the disease. As the experiments continued, doctors calculatedly deceived the subjects, informing them that they were suffering from what was categorized as: "bad blood".As the disease ravaged the minds and bodies of these unsuspecting men, no effort was made by the physicians of the Public Health Service to either inform them regarding the disease or provide them with treatment in an effort to curtail its devastating effects.

4-0 out of 5 stars It's exactly what the title claims
The Handbook is a slim volume of mainly viscera-bowel patterns, delineating common signs and symptoms, including tongue and pulse manifestations for each one, appropriate treatment principles, and one or two characteristic treatments. It is more terse than other similar works, and all the more useful because of its brevity.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Highly Recommended
"...an intriguing work targeted toward biologists wanting to solve problems...provides a compendium of many biological insights and breakthroughs and will be a useful resource...highly recommended." (Choice, Vol. 41, No. 7, March 2004)

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent for bioinformatics from a user's perspective
Unlike the previous review, I found the user perspective, rather than the mathematical perspective refreshing.I have been teaching bioinformatics to CS students for several years and all too often the students are great at algorithms and theory but do not understand the user they are designing for. This book teaches just that -- how to use bioinformatics from a user or researcher's viewpoint.Medical students and biologists will find it useful for direct applicability to their work, but I also reccomend it for bioinformatics students who need to complement their theoretical background with practical use.All too often, CS students of bioinformatics can design a great database with powerful access tools, but with a horrible interface because they don't have this perspective.3-0 out of 5 stars Bioinformatics for computational dummies
A genious attempt to present bioinformatics as if it is a discipline without any computational content. Perfect for students who lost any hope to understand what is the engine drivingbioinformatics tools but want simply to memorize how to use them instead. Must be a very comfortable reading for biologists but is as exciting as a long carefully designed restaurant menu for a mathematician. If the author wants to raise a new generation of biologists with this book then biology and *real* bioinformatics will be divorced forever. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Masterpiece in Biomechanics!
What I would say is not a comprehensive review of what the great book talks, but just telling you a truth: if you have engineering and mathamatics background and wanna combine your background to do research in physiology, Fung's book is absolutely a must-buy. This book is profound, but it is actually rooted in nearly all fields of biomechanics research. 5-0 out of 5 stars Simply the Best
Fung takes a continuum mechanics approach to the principles that underly the human body. All of the ideas in the text are backed up with solid research and easy to understand equations, as well as text descriptions.Fung is also responsible for researching many of the ideas of biomechanics, and so, the text takes on a personal view not found in other books. All inall, the best book out there for introductory biomechanics, but one thatyou will use for the rest of your life. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Good Wide-Ranging Nursing History Book
This is one of the best nursing history books available. It covers the period of nursing from pre-history through modern ages.Because the period of time covered is so vast, that very period is both the book's greatest strength and its weakness.
5-0 out of 5 stars The perfect gift for a nurse
This book is a great gift idea for all nurses.I bought one during mysenior year of nursing school to help with a take-home exam. Not only didit help with the exam, but it was actually very interesting to read.Theformat of the book is nice because it has a timeline, and is organized bymajor historical events in nursing. Even if you don't like reading abouthistory, the pictures tell a story themselves. It is a great coffee tablebook to have just to flip through and enjoy the beautiful artwork andpictures of nurses from past to present.

5-0 out of 5 stars Every nurse should own this book
This book is a treasure for the profession of nursing. I saw the first edition of this book while a nursing student in the author's nursing history course. Dr. Donahoe performed extensive research in writing this book. It is a moving account of those things that drew me to the professionof nursing and a thorough education for those unaware of nursing's history. The artwork is phenomenal and shows how nurses have been captured in artthroughout history as well. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Doesn't adequately cover medical device regulation
Mostly this book covers (perhaps adequately) FDA regulation of the development and approval process of new drugs. These new drugs are (by and large) developed by huge drug companies who doubtless employ teams of lawyers in connection with their FDA submissions and regulatory compliance, and it is quite likely that nearly all involved in that process with such companies would find this to be a "lite" description of FDA drug regulations, and will have little use for this book.(Imagine a beer having only 10 calories, not the 90 or so found in Miller Lite.)
