A thick book which could be much thinner
Working in optics, I purchased this book to get a wider scope of scanning techniques and possible optical schemes. The book is thick, up to eight hundred pages, and expensive. So, I expected a variety of optical schemes for laser/optical scanning. But I was disappointed with a great amount of topics, filling this book, which do not relate to scanning. For example, the chapters about M2 model, optical disk technology, image quality for scanning, are interesting in general but have rather distant relation to scanning. The chapter about motors and controllers is interesting, presenting the state-of-art of this technology, but it is overfilled with large, up to a page size, pictures which do not contain any information. For example, several pictures of printed-circuit boards with a great number of indistinguishable electronic components could be easily removed without any harm to the book. Also I doubt that pictures of standard diamond turning center, thin film deposition chamber, and other conventional industry technology are of any interest for professionals. At the same time such topics as infrared imaging scanners, reconnaissance systems, MEMS scanning/switching devices are completely ignored, as well as the rotating wedges technology. Interventional procedures for the body imager as well as interventionalist.
This book is weighted towards the interventional radiologist however topics and procedures for body imagers/general radiologists would also benefit.Each procedure is covered in detail from indication, preparation, procedure, complications and post procedure information.Also covered is relavent pharmacology for the radiologist including managing contrast reactions.The size is small enough for a jacket pocket and the text is clear and concise.

Excellent Source of Information
Every nurse working in Interventional Radiology should have this book. Bravo to Kandarpa and Aruny for bringing us this USEFUL, easy to use, information packed book.I cannot say enough good things about it, a must have book.... it's become my survival guide!

This is an excellent textbook of Minimally Invasive Surgical Procedures, containing eight sections of great interest to all of us, surgeons practicing both endoscopic and laparoscopic surgery. Excellent reference.
This is a comprehensive text covering all of the evergrowing list of procedures that can be done laparoscopically.The bibliography of contributing authors is filled with established experts and the editors are well recognized as pioneers in the field of minimally invasive surgery.Each chapter is filled with useful descriptions of the various procedures and is accompanied by accurate sketches.I think everyone is usually frustrated by the appearance of actual laparoscopic pictures due to their poor quality upon reproduction, but this book has seemingly found a way to circumvent that degradation because it is filled with actual laparascopic pictures that you can identify.Each chapter is followed by helpful suggestions and comments from the editors.As a second-year resident, I have found this book very helpful in outlining the advanced laparoscopic procedures prior to actually performing the procedure in the OR.It should prove useful to all surgical residents as well as practicing surgeons looking to increase their laparoscopic repertoire. ... Overall the book was a little too simplistic with not enough description of techniques and laser settings. I was looking for a more advanced text. Might be good for a beginner, but not enough pertinent info, diagrams, etc for those looking for a more in-depth and advanced study. ... Read more

It works.
For those of us who don't crave the pseudo-surgical lifestyle of vascular and interventional radiology and are perfectly happy in our diagnostic shoes, this book offers all we really need to know.Yes, Abrams or Castaneda have the advantage of volume and detail, but this book provides an excellent overview of the subspecialty.It's better for a general brush up than intensive orals review but the majority of answers for the written board can be found in its pages.Overall, a good book (and small enough to be portable). ... Very practical book on the Mohs technique.
The editors and authors do a very nice job of "how to" instruction.This would be a nice text for residents during their Mohs rotation or fellowship.I know of no other text that is as complete with practical knowledge on the subject of Mohs micrographic surgery. Practical Laboratory Information
Gross, Steinman, and Rapini have written the first Mohs surgery textbook for the ASMS crowd (American Society of Mohs Surgery) -it seems that most, if not all, of the contributors are of the non-fellowship-trained variety. Unlike Dr. Mohs' or Dr. Mikhail's textbooks, it focuses less on actual outcomes of treatment for different diagnoses than it does on practical aspects of a Mohs practice.It covers needed equipment to reimbursement issues to training a Mohs lab technician.The chapters are short (some at 2 pages) and the text is not dense.Its treatment of individual tumors is very cursory. A better text for pertinent discussion of cutaneous tumors encountered in a Mohs practice is Mary Maloney's Surgical Dermatopathology. Read more
