5-0 out of 5 stars Emergency Medicine: Comprehensive Study Guide 6th edition
This book is a must. Its useful for any person who practice in the ER as well the outpatient. Is very good for general reference. The book give a review of the problem with a management oriented to the adequate level of care. Cover
4-0 out of 5 stars This book is an excellent learning tool!
This book is a great textbook of emergency medicine, and I've chosen it over others simply because it's comprehensive without the useless drivel. Each section includes the necessary anatomy and pathophysiological considerations for the respective disoders. The subset of conditions are mentioned with just enough facts to understand the morbidity to treat it.The pictures, diagrams, algorithmic flow-charts, and drug regimens are a nice compliment, however, most of your clinical experience is going to come from interships and residency, so to assume this book is all you'll need to get by in EM is crazy.I still think it's the best out there to read before putting your mind to work.

2-0 out of 5 stars Downward Spiral on Autopilot
*Emergency Medicine, A Comprehensive Study Guide* has long been a well-regarded standard emergency text, useful in day-to-day practice as well as for board preparation. This new edition has advanced the enlightened 'evidence-based recommendations' for changes in practice patterns, however, the lack of editorial control has resulted in a book packed with conflicting information. Each chapter is written by a different consultant, and unfortunately not all of them are up on this concept... we therefore get a series of conflicting statements when there is overlap in topics, and there is no attempt to reconcile this variability.Admittedly, opinions in much of medicine do vary; but outright conflict within a few pages in a standard text without discussion does harm to credibility.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic book
This is a terrific book. It's written at a very basic, reader-friendly level. Likewise, the information is presented in a logical, organized manner. Also, the Student CD-Rom contains tons of extra resources, that really helped me master the material.

5-0 out of 5 stars A good book for all "emergency heros"
This book is very useful because of its very good pictures and photographs. You can see all important facts at first sight. That is very good for people who want to review things they have learned some time ago. So that's why I think this is a very good book, not only for all "real" first responders. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars ACLS Study Guide 3rd ED
I love this book! The author sounds exactly like me...scared to death to take an ACLS course.I have just started using this book but so far it has helped to calm my fears/anxiety. I also have the American Heart Association book, but this one explains things very basically for those of us not in critical care and/or have no critical care experience. It gets to the point in an understandable way.I would recommend it to anyone!

This book is perfect for the scrub who wants to take every case but doesn't have the experience or just needs a brush-up.Even my instructors (both first-assists) recommended this book as a must-have.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Book!!!
This book is excellent for all the new surgical technologists and ST students out there! This book lays it down in simple, almost layman-like terms but is very thorough. Everythng you need to prepare for a case you have never done is in this book. I cannot say enough about how greatly helpful this book is! It has gotten me through alot of stressful situations! 5-0 out of 5 stars An amazing reference guide.
This book lays out everything you need to know in a concise, easy to follow format. If only it wasnt so friggin gigantic. So whether you need to run to the office to brush up on a procedure you havent attempted since your second year of residency or you need something heavy to bash the hell out of a Ganglion cyst (please dont actually do that), this is a great tool.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book for anyone interested in emergency medicine
I am an EMT working toward a degree in nursing or PA. I saw this book being used in the ER at UVA Medical Center and had to have it. It has been a great learning tool for me. I would recomend anyone practicing emergencymedicine to add this book to your library.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must-have book for practicing emergency physicians
This new edition of a classic text is essential for the busy emergency physician. Not only does it give clear instructions for performing procedures, it also provides relevant information about pathophysiology.Indication and contraindications are explained.Numerous helpful tables assist in the interpretation of test results. This book is much more than a how-to manual, and no emergency department should be without it. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars like it
I got the book for my ICU rotation, its a easy read. Goes over the imp stuff and the basics too. Liked it a lot.

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent book overall
Too little details in places (mechanical ventilation) but too wordy in others.Excellent cardiopulmonary phys review, good breadth of subjects.Kinda big book but fast reading.

5-0 out of 5 stars My favorite
This book is rare because it is original. It welcomes you to the real world of critical care as seen by one expert physician. It was probably never intended for quick reference or board prep. The relatively large print and generous spacing make the book bigger but more pleasant to read. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A reviewer
I used this book as my primary source...i read it twice before the exam. the cases are amazingly close to what you will get in the exam...trust me... you do not need a course, all you need is the first aid!!!!!!!!!!!!! any other sources can be used as a way of reviewing what you have already learned from that book. trust me you know the content of this book, you are one step ahead of the game.
5-0 out of 5 stars All you need to pass CS!
This book does a great job of describing the exam format, rules and content. You can easily pass the exam using this book alone. In fact, a few days with this little gem before CS is what most of my friends and I have done for preparation. The consensus is that we ALL felt very comfortable with the simulated patient format based on what we learned in First Aid alone. Of all the cases I had on the exam, only ONE was not specifically covered in First Aid for CS. Don't waste time with other books/resources. I was somewhat disappointed with First Aid for CK, but for CS...it's right on the money!

5-0 out of 5 stars #1 book for Step 2 CS
This book was excellent for the exam. It told me exactly what to expect and what I needed for the exam day. The cases in the back of the book where almost verbatim of what I saw on the exam. Reviewing specifc physical exams and specific questions for a particular chief complaint was very benefical. I highly recommend this book. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Handy book
I purchased this book to back me up in my clinical year instead of carrying the big and great Tintinalli's "Emergency Med."I think this little version does a good job in giving a concise information on emergency medicine.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good for rounds
Great resource to have when making rounds. Didn't seem as indepth as I would like it to be in some places.Good refresher kind of book, with other resources handy for more indepth information.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Tool for a ER rotation
So far, the Emergency Medicine Manual has been a great asset to have while doing my ER rotation. It fits conveniently into my coat pocket and after seeing a patient, I can quickly read up on whatever I suspect is main diagnosis, and therefore appear smart when I am being pimped by a resident or an attending. I would recommend it to anyone considering doing ER. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Paramedic Review Book
This book is great if you need to review for a Paramedic Exam. The book is excellantly divided into sections based on the type of injury/illness etc.The book has many of the same questions as the National Registery Exam and state exams. The book also comes with a CD for further review. Thanks in part to this book I have my NREMT-P certification.

5-0 out of 5 stars good study book
This workbook is a very good study tool for paramedic school. I would recommend every student to purchase this book.

2-0 out of 5 stars Wishy Washy
I found this book helpful in some aspects, but it definetly condradicts itself all over the place. In one place, it says that neonatal compressions are to be 5:1 and in another place it says 3:1 - as for my class tests, my teacher used the test manager that came with it, AND we learned 3:1, so I knew that was the answer, but nationally, when I write my certification exam, I dont know what they want to see, because my text book didn't teach me much!It was really easy to look up definetion and the algorithms were good and such...as well as the pictures from actual (or simulated) paramedic calls. But as for the contradictions and spelling mistakes, I can't give this book a very good rating.I highly suggest you invest in another book, it just isnt worth buying this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Essentials of Paramedic Care....Tragedy, or Not?
Well it is true that I have found a few typos already, and that was in the first few chapters. However, after reading the reviews I can show you quite a few typos. This book is good and it was the book of choice by my Paramedic instructor, because he wanted a book that was writen by a real medic, not just a former medic that is now a realestate agent.Anyways, even if the book has errors in it, remember that the most important instruction tool along with your book is your INSTRUCTOR, and how he or she instructs you.The book gives great concepts, knowledge, and how to apply those both to the field. I believe it will be a great preparation for lectures and where I can bring up questions to my instructor. You can't blame your not being prepared for the National Registry test on a book, it is based on you. Here is my advice, if you have a problem or question from the book."ASK YOUR INSTRUCTOR ABOUT IT."They are the ones that will set you on the right track, That's why Paramedic courses aren't independent studies.Anyways, I believe when I get done with school I will be ready to hit the streets.I believe this book will help me get there, with the help of my instructor of course. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for all small animal veterinarians, buy it!
I have worn out the first edition, which is just under 300 pages. This book is about twice the size but has more than 2X the info because the type is smaller. This is the book I often use daily to get me through poisonings, trauma and more. Each problem has the treatment completely listed, you do NOT have to page back and forth to find drugs, procedures, etc. Buy it, I'm glad I did!

This book is extremely detailed and has great illustrations.I compared this book for many hours to Roberts & Hedges (R&H) 4th ed and this book blows it away. The entire procedure is fully explained (as in both books), but this book shows you numerous different locations and ways of getting the same procedure done. This seems to lack in R&H.Also, the illustrations are great.R&H uses mainly black and white photos from the 1970's/80's where the person was not even using gloves and there is a footnote in every picture to use gloves.I think R&H needs to use new updated pictures if they want to even compete with this book. The increased use of color, great illustrations with key landmarks, numerous charts, and ease of explanation make this book essential in any emergency physician's library. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Very detailed
At least half this book is exactly the same as First Aid for the Medicine Clerkship, but it does a good job of describing pathophysiology, differential diagnosis, and surgical management of issues. It's helpful that it includes chapters on the various surgical subspecialties.
3-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good book..
The book (and others in the series I have used) is quite good, with clear, well-summarized material. There are a few caveats, however:Read more
