REQUIRED READING!!
I just finished this book and must say it has had a profound effect on the way I look at health, nutrition and the information we are spoonfed on a daily basis.I will never again eat dairy and will always question where the latest and greatest research findings came from and who funded them!This book should be required reading for every single American person today!Why the information in this book is not front page news speaks volumes about the influence agricultural lobby groups have on government, science and the media.

You've got to read this book!
I received this book as a gift. There are quite a few books on this subject on the market and this one is the best. I too could not put it down and finished it in 3 days. It's a huge book, a great resource that is well researched and written.. I have a few friends who've purchased this book and really loved it too. I can highly recommend this book.

This is a very interesting view of the advances being made in the electronic area of medicine.
A lively blend of autobiography and health industry survey

Not a very appealing text
Chapters are disjoint at times, with no reference to similar concepts between them.Almost as if they were all written separately without any editing to tie them all together.
Health Behavior and Health Education
This book is a must have for anyone in the health education field. It presents all major health behavior theories in a clear and understandable manner, applies theories to case studies at the end of each chapter, and offers a table summary of each theory's core constructs. The book is well written and with this third edition comes more updated research information.

Not for a novice
Unarguably, Glanz et al know their theories.That, along with how comprehensive this book is, is as much of a positive review as I can give.My criticism of this book is not the expertise of Glanz et al. Relief from chronic pain / EBV a bonus
I bought this book in desperation as my chronic inflammatatory pain and the crippling exhaustion from chronic Epstein Barr have had me so dependent upon Tylenol and aspirin I feared for my liver and stomach. The first thing I did ( with my docs ok ) was drop my statin drug and start taking 6 gms of flax seed oil and 1 gm of evening primrose oil daily, along with changing my diet. I have to tell you it was the best thing I've done. My muscle and joint pain - previously so bad I worked part time for a bit - is 85% gone!! My knees, my biggest problems, are so good I can walk in the evenings with my husband, where before I was in physical therapy to get through the grocery store. I couldnt even take care of my grandson for a whole evening alone, and now Gramma can get on the floor and play !
this book has missed the point
Another book offering limited help to those with asthma. As a sufferer for long enough until I learned about the Buteyko method. If you wish to take control of your condition, this is the only therapy that works and does it very well.

Epi for Public Health Practice
The book is very well written. Clean examples are given. The authors do a great job of avoiding complex and confusing examples. The book made epidemiology more interesting and much easier to understand than it could have been. I've seen a lot of health care texts and this one is by far the best book of its kind.Very current and thorough coverage of all aspects of health care delivery. Fluffy
This book is near 600 pages, but it could be condensed to 300 easily: by cutting back on some simplistic flow charts and over-explanation.Maybe the goal was to make the book readable for the high school level, but I didn't find its style or level appropriate for a graduate (MBA) textbook.One further annoyance was the authors' shameless and open promotion of socialized health care.A more balanced take would give the authors greater credibility. ... Good research, disjointed storytelling
This book covers a lot of ground and Barry has done some great research.What Barry does not do is maintain a consistently engaging narrative. As others have noted, the book could have used some judicious editing.It probably could have lost 100 pages in my view.

I would have given it a minus three stars if it had been available
This is the hardest to read textbook I have ever owned.Textbook authors need to understand that they are writing for students, not their peers.I want the basics.I want to be able to read it in my own language and not have to continually look up words that the majority of people never use.I have other things to do with my time besides trying to decipher what the authors are trying to say.It's as if it's written in code and you have to figure out what it means.It's like learning a different language.They could have put the important stuff in a book about 50 pages long and left out 400 pages of filler.

Good content Poor Design
The book is very helpful.The layout does not make for easy reading. The book would be much better with good visuals and less chunky paragraph style writing - the virtues of bullet points especially during pre-exam reading.

At last, a good intro to epi book for students!
This book is an excellent introduction to epidemiology. The authors present epidemiologic concepts in an easy-to-understand manner with interesting supportive examples from the fields of reproductive health and HIV epidemiology. In addition to the standard chapters on study design, bias, and confounding, the book also includes very good chapters on measurement error, causation, and screening, as well as tried-and-proven guidelines for a critical review of epidemiologic studies. Psychiatric Rehabilitation
In reviewing this book I found it to be interesting and educational at the same time. It is not dry reading for a subject that could well be that. I will be able to use this book in my clinical practice when I graduate this summer.

This book is written as the product of an Institute of Medicine initiative to reduce the mortality and morbidity from errors in the American healthcare system. The Institute of Medicine is a private organization created by congressional charter to advise the federal government on specific matters. A book that is continuously updated
An amazing book.I came to know it by being a student in the class that the authors teach at UC Irvine--AIDS Fundamentals (by far the most informative and interesting class I have ever taken). I read the second edition, originally--the great thing about this book is that it is consistantly updated textbook--if you read each edition as it appears, you keep up with the developments. This is a book to be read over and over.

Very Good Except....
The book is well-documented and gives complete and clear explanations of diseases, causes, and possible solutions - ultimately suggesting which product is a natural way to releive symptoms and improve health. That's fine, except they don't do enough to alert you that fixing one thing may be bad for another. While you can talk live to an "advisor" anytime, they are not medical doctors and may not be aware of negative consequences of an item. For example, if you have burning with urination, the book and advisors may lead you to take the potent "CRANMAX" which may be excellent for urinary tract infection. But if the burning is from prostrate problems, a heavy dose of cranberry juice (quite acidic) is not a good idea.

Easy Read that Explains How Policy is Made
I am taking a course in Health Policy and the Political System and opted to use this book instead of that recommended by my professor. This book examined all the important aspects of policy making - paying close attention to the political actors - and has helped tremendously in my understanding of the politics surrounding health policy.

I have used this book for a number of years now in a class I teach on the Politics of Health Policy (along with Kingdon's classic).
