5-0 out of 5 stars 2nd & 3rd Edition
The latest printing of the Guide to Clinical Preventive Services includes the "3rd edition" addendum. The 3rd edition updates are new recommendations that in some cases replace chapters from the 2nd edition and the rest are entirely new.4-0 out of 5 stars Great info but now dated!
I have used this guide for many years in my practice as a family nurse practitioner.I have also required it of my FNP students.Yet, now is the time for an update as "gold standard" care is rapidly changing.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Great Resource!

5-0 out of 5 stars Should be mandatroy reading in college
John Adams is clearly one of the leading thinkers not only regarding Risk Management, but alsodecision-making where risk is involved. If you are expecting a book that limits itself to accident prevention and the purchase of insurance, you will be dilightfully suprised to find that Adams provides universal frameworks that apply to the entire universe of risk. Nor is this merely an ivory tower philosophical romp. Adams applies his frameworks to everything from the value of infant car seats to global warming to "zero accident" policiesin the workplace and does so with wit and empirical data. His conclusions are often very counterintuitive, but he provides the data to back up his conclusions, often with surprising results (for example, that mandatory infant car seats was correlated with an increase in infant deaths in auto accidents and that seat belt laws did not decrease injuries in auto accidents).
5-0 out of 5 stars Challenge Your Risk Foundation
This book is a by product of a research project called "Risk and Rationality."5-0 out of 5 stars Great book!
This is an outstanding little book -- very insightful and thoroughly enjoyable. I am a pediatrician who has been involved with writing practice guidelines to prevent a very low probability but devastating outcome (brain damage following jaundice in newborns). The discussion of different types of people with different attitudes towards risk helped clarify some of the dynamics of the guideline committees I have been on.In fact, I liked the book so much I sent a copy to the head of the current committee working on these guidelines.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally! A health program that ACTUALLY works!
This book is a must for anyone who is SERIOUS about their health and the health of their loved ones. Thanks Doctors Anderson and Breecher!I particularly enjoyed reading "Maury's Diary" on page 206.Your advice on melatonin has given me the restful sleep I've been missing for years.Keep up the good work

5-0 out of 5 stars Takes the mystery out of what antioxidants to take & amounts
This book clearly explains what antioxidants are and what they do to protect health (and how they do it). Dr. Anderson promises and appears to deliver a disease-reversal program that targets those with specific illnesses. These well-credentialed authors take the mystery out of what antioxidants and amounts to take. They do this by tailoring their recommendations to 3 possible health states:Good health that you want to maintain; Good health but risk factors such as diabetes or other genetic illnesses in your family, and lastly, poor health or chronic illness. Naturally those that are sick are counseled to consider taking a wider variety of antioxidants, including Melatonin. Regardless of the title, the authors don't believe antioxidants are "magic bullets," however they do believe antioxidant supplemenTS, coupled with other health-enhancing steps (the Program promised in the title), will help stave off or moderate diseases including cancer, cardiovascular ailments, and diabetes. The authors back their recommendations by citing and explaining numerous, current studies.Publisher's Weekly, in a review, pointed out that the book's glossary "is particularly useful." It is good, but I especially appreciated the recommendations about soy protein and other phytochemicals. It's worth the money ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Stopping Cancer at its Source
The book does a good job explaining how cancer starts and what factors are needed to give cancer the boost it needs to inhabit your body at the cellular level. It explains ways to prevent cancer and the simple things we can do to become activists against such a deadly disease. This book seems to be written for an audience of 9th grade, making it very easy to understand.

5-0 out of 5 stars A superb resource for health promotion
I teach a course on environmental health and have found this book to be an excellent resource for my students. Although this book was originally intended (I'm sure) as a book for ordinary consumers, I think it's best utilized as a teaching aid in health promotion. It's difficult to find good current resources in this area, and this book compliments widely-used, tried and true titles such as Silent Spring, by Rachel Carson. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good basic book on social marketing
This book provides a very good overview of social marketing.I use this as a text book in a graduate course that I teach and find it useful in giving students a clear idea of how social marketing relates to the broader topic of nonprofit marketing, without requring them to wade through all of the additional information that a more general marketing textbook would offer.Author Alan Andreason is a leading thinker on the topic of social marketing and has organized this relatively short book in a straightforward manner that makes it easy to separate the preparatory work from the actual execution of social marketing plans.
5-0 out of 5 stars The definitive book
This is the best book to give you grounding in social marketing. It also is a handy reference that you'll go back to again and again. It's well written and very accessible. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must-Read Book for Parents
The very words "ear infection" conjure up fear, dread and visions of antibiotics in most parents----yet few ever understand what a misnomer the term "ear infection" actually is. I purchased this book when my daughter was 8 months old and we were going on our third ear infection. I was desperate and disillusioned with the poor explanations my pediatrician handed me along with an antibiotic rx slip. What actually did he mean by "ear infection"?'Infections' are for the most part inflammations of the ear-----be they caused by virus or food sensitivities or (less commonly) bacteria. Yet we are treating most ear infections as if they are caused by a bacterial infection only. Block really drives a point home about food sensitivities----that many children are sensitive to dairy products, wheat, or corn (among others) and these items contribute to ear problems. After reading the book, we immediately took our daughter off dairy products permanently (and wheat for a year) and her health improved 100%----with only one more ear infection/inflammation, which we resolved easily and successfully without antibiotics. She has never had an ear problem again. I cannot recommend this book highly enough. While it is a bit amateurishly put together, and Block's writing style is at times cumbersome, it is nevertheless worthwhile stuff, and it REALLY important for parents to read and absorb.

5-0 out of 5 stars It actually works
After taking antibiotics over and over again for the same infection, I was at the end of my rope. I was amazed to find out that this method worked forme. This book is probably less expensive than an antibiotic prescription,so why not try it yourself?

5-0 out of 5 stars Refreshing!
I have used "NO MORE AMOXICILLIN" on myself and my 4 month old. While I was pregnant, I developed a very severe ear infection.Being that I was pregnant, I couldn't take any medication.I started using Dr. MaryAnn Block's technique through manipulation. My husband gave me 3treatments a day and before long my ear infection was gone and I feltgreat.I could actually feel my ears draining during the treatment. Itis always nice to find a way to cure you or your loved ones without the useof extra medication. This is definitely one of those.I have been doingthe manuipulation technique on my 4 month old son since he was born andeverytime he goes to the pediatrician she says that his ears look great.Ihave also purchased the video titled,"Treat Ear and RespiratoryInfections WITHOUT Antibiotics!"This gives even more in depthinformation and a hands on demonstration of the manipulation technique. Ihighly recommend this book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The best patient is the educated patient
Facing the prospect of a cervical spine fusion, I wanted all the information I could find. Dr Filler's book is a very easy and enjoyable read. The book has general chapters on spine health, conditions and diseases that may necessitate surgery, and diagnostic and surgical procedures. Dr Filler then dedicates chapters to specific conditions and specific areas of the spine. He concludes with postoperative considerations and the future. I'm no stranger to major surgery. This is the best book of its kind that I have read. I shared the book with family members. It helped me understand my condition and better communicate with my surgeon.

5-0 out of 5 stars For those you want a better understanding of their spine conditions
This is an excellent book for those who want to be in control of their health. I run a specialist clinic, Core Concepts, for back pain in Singapore. For our patients that want to have a thorough understanding of their condition and treatment options, we strongly recommend this book.
5-0 out of 5 stars Easy to Read ... Thorough Information
I am facing major back surgery soon and this book was invaluable...it provided me with a thorough understanding of the anatomy of the spine and the details of the surgery which I will have.It is easy for a layman to understand and you can skip to the chapters that are appropriate for your particular ailment.I have already recommended it to two of my friends who also have severe back problems. It should be on the "MUST READ" list of anyone who has a back problem, no matter how large or small. ...
