5-0 out of 5 stars A book to help you understand how the bodys systems work
There was such good information in this book about different items that can be causing health problems in the body. What is more important it talked about what a person can do about these problems to let them live ahealther lifestyle. The chapter on Cancer was really interesting I did notrealize there were so many types of Cancers. Also the section on why dietsdon't worked helped me to understand why they have not over the yearsworked for me.Also the section on that gave me insight on what I could doto get my doctor to help me better. It was also interesting to learn abouthow the mental, emotional and spirtual connection all works together and isso important. I also found the book easy to read and understand as it iswritten so someone who is non-medical can really grasp what Dr. Kellas istrying to stay. After reading Dr. Kellas's other two books I just had toread this one as I am on a journey to better help and he sure has thevision to show one the way.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good guide
If you are working with Stata this book will be a good help to understand the basic concepts of the multivarite analysis.

4-0 out of 5 stars Accessible Intermediate Text
Dupont's "Statistical Modeling for Biomedical Researchers" is an accessible, straightforward, easy-to-read text for students and/or researchers w/ some elementary background in biostatistics. As previous reviewers have indicated, this is largely a problem-based text, so for those of you who seek a detailed theoretical explanation of the tools presented therein, you may want to look elsewhere.A major advantage, however, is Dupont's presentation of how to run the respective analyses using the statistical software package, Stata, although it should be noted that the syntax presented is for version 7 of Stata -- not version 8.Parenthetically, all of the code -- w/ the exception of the graphing commands -- are essentially the same between versions. In short, this text is a good introduction to some of the techniques typically not discussed in an elementary biostatistics course, although the book is best characterized as an invaluable adjunct to more theoretical, comprehensive biostatistics textbooks.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very useful during statistics class
I used this book as the text for a biostatistics class that used STATA as the statistitical package.I found the organization, problems, and the STATA output the book provides, all very helpful. In addition, as I moved systematically through the book, the tips regarding using the STATA features were key to my learning many of the practical aspects of the STATA program. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Public Health Pedantically
Jenkins's work, while encompassing a large spectrum of public health information, provides the reader with a finer meaning of what the word pedantic means. At times his work rises to the level of insightful analysis of public health trends in some of the examples used for his lessons on behavioral interventions, but this is often not the case. This handbook often descends into the depths of feeble writing, or worse - patronization of the reader with a substandard lexicon and unfitting diction.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Outstanding Resource
As the other reviews were from students, I have to add, as a clinician, I find this book outstanding. It is an invaluable and comprehensive resource for any clinicain interested in wellness and prevention. It draws on expertise from leaders in the field and offers a breadth of evidence-based information on health promotion. The text includes multi-cultural perspectives which is an added benefit. I highly recommend this text to any health care professional interested in health promotion.

1-0 out of 5 stars Poorly written, difficult to read/
I am in nursing school and this is the worst book I have ha to read in my college career. It is difficult to read and much of the information is old.One reason it is hard to read is that 75% of the text is referencing to other research work and it disrupts the reading flow.Do not buy this book!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Radically Different Approach
Over the years, several books, manuals, self help guides have been written on the subject of AIDS and the conduct of social campaigns. However, few studies have provided such in-depth analysis of interventions as does the present book by these authors. Their analysis suggests a radically different approach to understanding and designing communication strategies to control and prevent the spread of HIV.

SMART PUMPING by Howard Wolpert is an excellent resource for those using an insulin pump or considering one.
5-0 out of 5 stars Very Practical Guideline
This excellent book provides very practical guideline to insulin pumping and covers all the aspects of pumping: from the best pump wearing to the complex tinny tuning of insulin regime. Usually such kind of books contains two main parts: the first one explains whom and why need the pump, while the second part retell user guide for a pump. The reviewing book is favorably different by substance. It bases on the modern scientific research published. I am longstanding diabetic and diabetic reader, but I discovered some new facts about the diabetes, its complications, and insulin therapy. Editorial Review

Privacy isn't all it's made out to be, says George Washington University scholar Amitai Etzioni. "Without privacy no society can long remain free," he writes, but our communities also have other goals that sometimes must override the privacy imperative. "Should the FBI be in a position to crack the encrypted messages employed by terrorists before they use them to orchestrate the next Oklahoma City bombing?" he asks. Etzioni's answer is a resounding "yes," and he applies similar logic to a number of areas. He believes, for example, that newborn babies should undergo HIV tests without parental consent because they could benefit from immediate treatment, even though mothers worried about personal revelations might object. He also supports the various sorts of "Megan's laws" that try to protect society against sex offenders. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Balanced View for the Privacy Debate
Since the 1960's, an emphasis on individualism and personal autonomy have shaped public policy debates, including debates about the right to personal privacy. While many scholars and advocacy groups claim that privacy is under seige, an alternate view of privacy exists, one in which it is weighed against other public interests. In The Limits of Privacy, Etzioni espouses a communitarian approach to determining the relative value and, as the title suggests, the limits of privacy.Privacy, the author argues, is not an absolute right, but is a right that must be carefully measured against the "common good," which for Etzioni is defined as public health and safety. At the heart of this book is the question of if and when we are justified in implementing measures that diminish privacy in the service of the common good.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent public policy book
If one seeks a current book that is creating great controversy in the public policy field, "The Limits of Privacy" should fulfill your search. This book combines philosophical discussions with actual issues and then draws its own conclusions.Whether one agrees or not with the author's opinions, this book definitely creates spirited debate.5-0 out of 5 stars One man's view of privacy
This book gives the pros and cons of several policies and practices concerning privacy. I found it refreshing to have a book that tries to be balanced. People at the extremes will not agree with the author's view thattechnnology is not all bad or all good. It is not a technical discussionbut I didn't find it to violate technical plausibilty at any point. ... Read more
