An excellent strength training reference manual
I work out regularly, and when doing strength training, I frequently have questions about which muscles I am working, whether I am performing the moves with correct form, etc.I decided to read this book after reading the author's companion work, Women's Strength Training Anatomy, which focuses on lower body only, whereas this volume offers a full-body review.
Strength Training Anatomy
Excellent strength training manual. I actually own the original version, but just had to buy the revised one as well. Do not regret the decision. This a clear, concise, well-laid out guide to weight training. I've been lifting for 9 years so I'm pretty advanced. Since I need to change my routines every 4-6 weeks, I always look to this handy book to put together new ones.

Great Resource
I have used this book extensively in family medicine clinic and it is a great resource.I only gave it 4 stars because I thought the pages in the previous version were easier to read with larger print, particularly for my geriatric patients.The newer edition has updated handouts but the design is not as patient friendly.It would also be nice to see the text come with a CD ROM of the text in pdf formats to print patient handouts from.

Most important book in my library.
Every certified athletic trainer, primary care physician, coach, or anyone else who has contact with the injured athlete should own this book. I use this text every day. It is the most useful resource in my professional library. This book is so easy to understand it makes an excellent text for parents of active young people. Dr. Rouzier's book is a "home run".

Every Office Should Have This Book!

all you need for the CSCS exam!
like kent_mc2 this is all you need for the CSCS exam. This and the Exam Content Descriptions. Do all the questions in each chapter and read the chapters that you are weak on and skim the chapters you feel strong in. Use the chapter questions to see if you need to go over the chapter again. This can be done in a few days if you have some kind of science or exercise science background or other PTtraining. Some of the basic sciences at the beginning can be a bit intimidating if you did not take basic sciences in college, but only a small percentage of the exam is basic sciences. I keep this book as a reference now.

Essentially the Essentials
The essentials is just what it states - it covers the essentials! It is not the last word on everything written for everyone. It is primarily a teaching reference. This is a reference that has the research and science behind it to back up the statements.

An Excellent Reference Book
This is the only reference book I have and need on Exercise Physiology. Most useful to me are chapters on performance enhacement, high altitude acclimatisation and physical training for seniors. The first few introductory chapters and the first few pages of each chapter remind me of my basic life sciences. The authors then focus on the application of cell biology to training. The thing I like most about this book, is that there is no "guru talk". Every piece of advice is based on currect research.

Although it runs to 1158 pages, this winning book, long recognized as THE leading exercise physiology text, stays succinct and engaging--and not one page too long. Excellent Information
The book include many useful information, most of all, within the numerous schools of fitness testing and indicator, ACSM is still the most professional and reliable source.

Invaluable
This book by the American College of Sports Medicine is an invaluable resourse for anyone in the field of Exercise Physioloy or other related fitness fields. I use it on a regular basis as a quick reference guide for fitness testing and evaluation. This also a necessary book for anyone taking one of the ACSM certification tests. I highly recommend this book.

worth a buy if you do not mind typos
Clinical Application of Neuromuscular Techniques is an alternative to Travell's Trigger Point Manual if you do not do TP injections. It has great pictures, well explained treatment techniques (if you are up to date with your anatomy and medical terms) and lots of references. The disadvantage are typos (the editor must have had a bad day and was unable to write the German words for the references right, but also some English words are off!) Parts of the text are repeated in the book twice, what I thought is unnecessary and only adds to the number of pages but not the quality of content.

Great book for the money!
I'm an Advanced Practitioner of Massage Therapy and find this book VERY helpful.The Muscle Energy Techniques (M.E.T.s) are explained very thoroughly, and the accompanying drawings, and or pictures, are very helpful.While familiar with the M.E.T.s, having this book as a reference for all the upper body muscles, and their positioning for the best M.E.T. applications, is very rewarding. I'd recommend this book highly to anyone that has a basic understanding of the therapeutic aspects of massage and M.E.T.s. Clinical Application of Neuromuscular Techniques - Vol. I
This is a really clearly written, concise book, with drawings and pictures of muscle positions, trigger points, etc.I bought the Jane Travell Myofascial Pain and Dysfunction Books before this one came out, and for the money wish I had bought the Clinical Application of Neuromuscular Tech. Book.Unless you are a Physician, who wants to inject the patient's trigger points with a saline solution, and then you better be very exact in your aim with the needle, I think the Clinical Application of Neurom. Tech. Book is a much more practical, useful, hands on,straight forward book that addresses all the trigger points, origins and insertions of the muscles in a very user friendly way.Until this book came out, Jane Travell's was the only great reference guide; but what patient really likes injections?Now this book surpasses Dr. Travells, in that all the material in it is useful and usable.Can't wait for Vol. II, Lower Body, to come out. ... Kids shouldn't always idolize great athletes
Game of shadows was recently printed in March 2006. The book was written by two men to show the truth behind some of the greatest athletes throughout the world. The two men summarized over five years of information they gathered together from the Internal Revenue Service's Criminal Investigations and other companies on steroid use in sports. It would start off explaining the important of sports and how sports have a big impact on kids and teenagers. Then it would show investigation reports from years ago on different football and baseball players. The details they use on each of the characters after they would work out or before they work out seems like your looking at a picture of them. Also since it's a true story and all of the characters are real people then many of us (readers) can relate to at least one thing that a character is going through. I enjoyed the book a lot because it showed me how star athletes don't always have it made easy even if they are not doing anything wrong. Most people think that all the fame and riches make it a better life and an easier way to live but everytime you read another chapter in this book you realize its wrong and star athletes have to worry about simple things like where they throw their trash away at. The only downfall to this book is the ending where it didn't really explain what happened to Barry Bonds. The theme of this book is "cheaters never prosper".

Stright to the point
First things first: this is essentially a term paper, or a series of articles strung together. While that's not a bad thing, you shouldn't expect great *writing* here. That said, it's adequately done, and exhaustively researched... which is disturbing because there is no doubt that Bonds, and the rest of these guys cheated. No doubt at all. And they make no apologies for it either, essentially claiming since everyone else was doing it they had to do it too in order to compete (an excuse for bad behavior I hadn't heard since grammar school). Yes, this book takes an especially hard look at Barry Bonds, and for good reason. Inexplicably, yet luckily for him, he was the only one of dozens to not outright admit steroid use in his grand jury testimony, even though the extent of the evidence was essentially the same for all the athletes involved. And although the authors put forth a steady stream of facts, interviews and other hard evidence that Bonds is in fact guilty, we need only the very public "evidence" that at age 36, when every other human on the planet's body begins breaking down, Barry Bonds put on 40 pounds of pure muscle and increased his stats in every area of the game by an incredible margin. After reading this book I firmly believe that he, Palmiero, McGwire, Giambi, Jones, et all should have asterisks by their records. And the argument that "we don't know what Babe Ruth was injecting!" is a weak argument: the other thing this book does well is act as a steroid primer, and the modern drugs and techniques are simply no match for whatever those old timer could get their hands on. So, even thought it will make you mad, and maybe even sad, if you're a fan of baseball, or sports in general, you need to read this book.

first off the authors made a very good case with the numerous accounts of governmental patronizing attitude towards some athletes that have supposedly cheated on their record breaking and personal best of their respective sports, while at the same time harshly criticizicing other countries denial of doping practices for not coming forward and admitting their less than rigorous demands they impose upon their athletes to what the writers call it''the American hypocrisy" when effectively dealing with this problem.

Add specifity to any running program
This book complete's any running book collection.It goes in depth into the biomechanics of running, specific weight training exersizes for breakthrough running, and specific stretching for runners.This book covers the information that most other books only breifly skim over.The knowledge that Michael Yessis shares in this book could be eaisily added to any running program, to make you a faster, and more efficient runner.I would reccommend this book to anyone who is serious about running and looking to add more specifity to their running program.If you want to run faster, and farther without getting injured this is a book for you.

How serious do you want to get about your running?
This book would be great for anyone who is serious about running and desires to find ways to increase performance.The sections that break down the actual mechanics of running are complicated, but I found them to be interesting.The sections on stretching and weightlifting exercises specifically for running are outstanding.The chapter on the effects shoes have on feet and the case for spending more time barefoot is also a highlight. Awesome!

Essential for MSK radiologist but a little dry
This remains an essential textbook for musculoskeletal radiologists although one criticism would be that is a little dry .It steers clear of the opinion which makes books by Resnick or Helms so entertaining and useful. Stoller and some of the authors he has used for the chapters are enormously experiencedand it would be good to read a more personal perspective .

Fine Text for Orthopaedic MRI
This book provides thorough reviews of disease process involving each joint. There are also chapters discussing bone and soft tissue tumors. Illustrations include MR images, intraoperative images, and pathologicspecimen. I have found it very informative and helpful for my radiologyresidency. An invaluable resource
The second edition (2001) of this work is indeed an outstanding resource.My daily work includes imaging of sports and musculoskeletal injuries.I find this book frequently useful to supplement deficiencies in my knowledge and experience, and a most useful companion to the second edition (2001) of "Musculoskeletal Ultrasound" by Marnix van Holsbeeck and Joseph Introcaso. Great book for physical therapists - incredible value
This is an astounding book. When was the last time you saw a 900+ page hard cover book packed with useful photographs and excellent line drawings...The practical advice in this book is unparalleled. Best Sports Medicine Book I've Ever Used!
The Second edition of Clinical Sports Medicine is the best reference book I have come across as an athletic therapist and professional fitness and lifestyle consultant. I find it very easy to navigate with great illustrations and information.The references are all very recent and evidence-based so you feel confident in following the authors' recommendations.It is particularly good value at 67 US dollars - most hardcover books of this size are about twice that price. The corresponding website has updated information, including relevant published papers, which I find quite helpful also.These authors have really done a fabulous job of classifying sports medicine information in a logical and easy-to-use format. Highly recommended as an NSCA-PT study guide, or referencebook.
This is pretty much the only book I've been reading for the past couple of months as I prepared for the NSCA's personal trainer exam.I am fairly sure I passed the exam, and I doubt I could have passed without the help of this book and NSCA's exercise techniques DVD which is sold separately.[Update - I DID pass the exam!:-) ]This 674 text is packed full of information and can not be breezed through Harriet Klausner style.

For a great sport management foundation, read and learn this
I am a junior at the University of Massachusetts, and I had the opportunity to read and study this book for my Sports Management class this past spring. A little disappointing
Anyone reading the title of this book might justifiably assume it was going to deal with the type of energy manifested in Qi Gong, EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques), acupuncture, Quantum-Touch and many other energy therapies - subtle energy it is often called.

Two thumbs up!
Some of the topics in the book are quite technical but you'll be able to understand them after a few times of rereading. The book does not show you routines to follow but what it does is show you what methods worked and did not work. This book is for all those who want to understand the science behind strength training. It does not give you a specific program but it equips you with the knowledge on how to develop your own. This book deserves a space in your strength training library and is a must for any serious lifter, coach and athlete.

Decades of experience
This book is based on decades of methodically documented training of Russian athletes. Rather than use hypothesis of what training methods SHOULD work, found so commonly in U.S. training literature, what you'll read in this book is scrupulous analysis of what actually worked and what didn't work. There is no equivalent in the U.S. athletic training system; no one has tracked and scientifically analyzed the training of U.S. athletes like the Russians did with their centralized training programs.
