As one of the veterinarians who contributed to this book, I was interested to see some of the comments, especially about garlic.

I was browsing around for natural cat health information, and read the review below, titled "Disappointing".
Disappointing!
Of the dozens of books I've purchased online, this book has the distinction of being the first one I've ever returned.Having read the comments of other reviewers, I expected this to be a cutting-edge remedy and nutrition guide.Instead, I found it to be a haphazard collation of miscellaneous remedies offered by a number of different vets.These remedies lack adequate detail on indications, contraindications, preparation, dosage and treatment, and at least one of the remedies I looked up was simply a promotion of the vet's own product.Homeopathic medicines were suggested as blanket remedies for things such as intestinal parasites, with no consideration for the complexities of homeopathic prescribing.Read more

Good Resource for Understanding Feline Issues
While this book won't necessarily give you all the solutions for your cats' behavior problems, it will give you a much better understanding of why they might be behaving the way they are and what the possibilities and/or alternatives are.
Best of its kind
This is an older book, but the best written on the subject. If you are having problems with your cat, this book could easily save your cat's life! It covers all kinds of problems, like cats that don't get along, cats that "spray", etc., and the reasons for them, and how to stop them. I have used it for several years on several problems that seemed "impossible", and it worked every time.

An entertaining read about drugging your cat
I only say that because so many of his solutions seem to revolve around medication, but I ran out and found a vet who would prescribe Buspirone for my spraying cat and after two weeks, it is only marginally helping. If it had been a huge and immediate success, I would have given this book 5 stars!

It is easy to look up information about specific drugs as the index is very thougher. The book is also set out in sections covering certain groups of drugs such as anaesthetics and also from a systems point of view, for example the respiratory system. Not bad, but would like something better...
I bought this book for a behavior elective I am taking in veterinary school.The book is very well organized with the first part of the book discussing behavior in general and familiarizing the reader with behavior terminology and different types of treatments and prevention (socialization, pharmacological intervention, and diet to name a few).The second half of the book targets more individual problems for dogs and then cats.The beginning of each chapter is clearly labeled with the contents to be found in the chapter, making the book very easy to navigate.

Herbal Handbook
Well this book is mainly only for the use for dogs.I was thinking it's be more like a herbal/ailment glossary.You know, about what's wrong with your pet and what herb to use for it.It does have that in the book but very little and it's got more literature in it than I had wanted.

the complete herbal book for the cat and dog.
This book is an excellent source of almost forgotten and useful information. I am constantly going back to reread sections and have bought it for my farming, animal loving daughters.

good overall idea, BUT...
First I will give the author due credit for her general ideas on natural rearing, caution of over-vaccination, recommendation of a natural raw diet and advice to provide plenty of exercise, sunshine and love.

Not being a rider myself, I was totally confused with the need for a sub-base and how the unique impact of a horses hoof can cause failure to the surface.
Disappointing
I got this book because I was planning to build my own arena and was very disappointed with the lack of practical advice it contained. The author is a soil scientist and it shows.The book is about soils and sand, and has very little to do with the practicalities of arena construction, nor is it even very clear about the range of surfaces available.Its lack of practical orientation can be illustrated by the(very brief)section on drainage where it states that: "Drainage refers to the potential of a soil to acquire an optimum level of moisture for a particular purpose."That really wasn't much use to me.In fact I found much more valuable information on equestrian arenas, including surfaces, but just searching the web. ... DISTURBING BUT USEFUL
Chimpanzee Politics: Power and Sex among Apes was a very disturbing book to read. Perhaps this is because of the way Franz de Waal chose to end the book.The story about how Luit finished his reign as "alpha male" was extremely upsetting.
Lots about Chimpazee Erections
De Waal investigates chimpanzee behavior in a zoo, which is at odds with chimpanzee behavior in the wild. The main difference is that the female chimps live together instead of foraging alone, which leads them to participate more in politics than usual. The book is about coalitions, how they're formed, and between whom. The longest part details how leadership changed from chimp to chimp to chimp. There is quite a bit about chimpanzee sex, especially how male chimps thrusts their hips forward and bounce their penises up and down to attract women. There is a nude shot of a chimpanzee penis, but you have to be told what it is. There is a lesbian monkey, and an ape rape, and they go together. A big arrow would have been helpful. The very best part is the postscript which depicts something that is treated fully in another book (de Waal is a salesman as well as a biologist); one of the chimps is murdered when the other chimps bite off his balls. It has some good pictures, it's kind of fun, but I wouldn't buy it.

Fascinating parallels to human behavior
The parallels de Waal draws between human and chimp politics are interesting, ironic, and often amusing. They seem so valid--if one can look objectively and without prejudice--that I found myself both fascinated and amused throughout the whole book at the similarities between both chimp and human customs and politics. The difference between us and the chimps is that a thin surface veneer of ideology and beliefs hides the true nature of politics for us, and the sex and the money which are really at the root of it.

Great questions, bad software
I agree with other reviewers, the questions are very nice, good explanations and fair difficulty level. The software makes you repeat questions lots of times, you can't review the ones you got right on test mode, so if you were lucky with your answer, you will never know why.My software also failed a couple of times making me quit in the middle of test review.

FANTASTIC BOOK
I did fabulous on Step I- yet I was a mediocre student in the first two years.Here's why.During the first two years, I tried to read a lot of textbooks and not those silly notes handed out by the instructors...because they were poorly presented and often contained weak, 1:1 relationships.Reading textbooks really exposed me to a lot of highly varied material, and consequently, I was exposed to more knowledge than the other students.But when Step I came around, I decided not to do the Kaplan thing: I mean, this isn't "occult" knowledge, is it?No, so I relied on this and the other review books in this "white book" series...Fantastic results!!!And for pictures, pay *close*attention* to the pictures in First Aid. Best success to you all!

What a waste of money...Do not buy!!!!!
First of all let me just say that the question you get on the book are repeated to you on the cd-rom, so for those of you thinking, like I did, that you're getting a total of 1400 questions, YOU'RE NOT. Second of all, the cd-rom doesn't have a save option so you'll be repeting questions each time you use it and you'll never do them all because of that. Third, the questions are either way to easy or impresively hard to find in your regular study reviews. And finally,to DAVE BROWN in Tempe AZ, the guy who wrote the first review on this book here: next time try and check everything about a item (book in this case) before you give it 5 stars, cause most people read these reviews and follow advise, and in this case yours sucked big time. ... Veterinary Parasitology: Refrence manual

A little more technical than I had planned for
This book is extremely detailed in anatomy. Although I like it, it's a little more detailed and technical than I had in mind for massage and stretching. It's almost like a mini text book. I found it a little on the heavy side for reading. I think this book is only for the most serious of students. It is chock full of technical descriptions, diagrams and some good black and white photos. I found myself skipping around trying to find something I might want to try on my horse but this book really isn't good for that. It really is more of a manual for the student of equine massage and physical therapy.

Slow going at first...
Technical jargon galore in the first few chapters but after that the rest is easier for us non-vets to understand.
