Great assistance to energy work
A good reference book for those in an equine therapy role.

good introduction
This is an interesting and well written book on equine acupressure, and also the only on the market! Very clear and simple explanation on TCM (traditional chinese medicine) and principles behind it all. This is a keeper!
I purchased the book and the video tape. It is truly an excellent reference manual and I believe is a good basis start with. It's easy to understand and you can go out and start doing it. It's nice how the book has different ailments broken down so you can refer to a specific problem without wading through a bunch of text. My horses love it and I love doing it for them. ... Read more

Actually worth the money !
I really hesitated before I bought this book.I thought "how good could this POSSIBLY be for $150.00."All of my doubts were erased once I opened the cover.I am planning to build a large indoor arena with stable.Every single one of my questions were answered thoroughly and clearly in this book.Beyond that hundreds of details I had never even considered were brought to light in Eileen Wheelers book.
Excellent and Comprehensive!

Horses have no place in this book
I believe that a vast amount of viable space is wasted on horses in this book.While they technically are large animals, they're so vastly different from cattle that they deserve and have their own books which are great.
An invaluable reference for large animal medicine
This textbook is, in my experience, the best single medicine reference for large animals.It is designed for the graduate veterinarian and is not easy to read, but contains an immense amount of information (plus references) in a usable format.The index is comprehensive, which is useful as some conditions are discussed by different authors in disparate sections of the text.The text is divided into body systems, then subdivided into equine and ruminant diseases.There are also useful rule-out lists for major clinical signs provided at the beginning of the book.The illustrations and photographs are black-and-white and are largely the same as the previous edition, but this edition contains well-updated text material.Detractors from this text include minimal specific treatment information for some disease processes and the lack of a formulary.It also does not cover swine or camelid species.Nonetheless, I find this book far easier to read and use (with more comprehensive information) than the similar Blood and Radostits text.If you care to invest in several texts instead of a single one, try the Current Veterinary Therapy Equine Practice and Food Animal Practice (very easy to read).However, if you choose these keep in mind that you may need more than one volume of each, as each CVT volume is not comprehensive.My copy of Smith is constantly at hand, and has seen a great deal of use since I purchased it.I recommend this book to any large animal practitioner as a necessary reference. ... A Must for Miniature Horse Breeders

As an owner of both Arabian horses and Miniature Horses I decided to buy this Veterinary Guide especialy printed with information on the wellbeing of the miniature horse ,the book was reccomended to me , I have found it very helpful , full of information to all kinds of ailments in the miniatures, covering just about everything you would need to know without the expense, Ibought this book to join my other veterinary books and, the information and advice is well worth reading, I'd suggest everybody keeps one , it's not just a reference book it's my miniature horses bible !!!!!!!,

it was GREAT!
had this book been smaller, it would have been perfect! or had more photos.... i used it as a reference while i was working on my horse and it was kind of hard to manage both the massage and the reading at the same time;)

best book I have found in a decade
Having been an equine bodywork practioner in So. Cal for over a decade, I have looked at many massage books.This book is by far the most comprehensive as far as anatomy and function of the horse.One word of caution, be careful when performing the stretches he demonstrates in the book, not always the best human biomechanics are used!

This is an excellent book on equine massage. It covers anatomy in sufficient details and is well illustrated. The different moves are well explained and supported with clear pictures. I found the information on hydrotherapy, kinesiology, conformation and stretching surprisingly interesting. It gives you an overall view of the horse and it makes the book so much more useful.Read more

The Complete Book of Foaling
This is book is a complete guide for the foaling attendant.It gives handy supply lists, ideas for predicting the foaling date, and wonderful nutritional advice.There is a lot of good info on warning signs of "things going wrong" and how and when to help the mare out.Great book!It's the second copy I've owned.

Good Quick Referance
Working as a riding Instructor and manager or a riding school this is a great book to have as a quick and easy referance.
maybe 4 stars, more a quick reference than comprehensive
This was one of those books that I had a quick flick through at first and thought it was rather light in content. On second reading there was indeed a mention of 'every illness' and the front section had excellent diagrams on physiology and anatomy - including the nervous system which is often not included in anatomy diagrams.

Thank God for this book!!

Not being a rider myself, I was totally confused with the need for a sub-base and how the unique impact of a horses hoof can cause failure to the surface.
Disappointing
I got this book because I was planning to build my own arena and was very disappointed with the lack of practical advice it contained. The author is a soil scientist and it shows.The book is about soils and sand, and has very little to do with the practicalities of arena construction, nor is it even very clear about the range of surfaces available.Its lack of practical orientation can be illustrated by the(very brief)section on drainage where it states that: "Drainage refers to the potential of a soil to acquire an optimum level of moisture for a particular purpose."That really wasn't much use to me.In fact I found much more valuable information on equestrian arenas, including surfaces, but just searching the web. ... A little more technical than I had planned for
This book is extremely detailed in anatomy. Although I like it, it's a little more detailed and technical than I had in mind for massage and stretching. It's almost like a mini text book. I found it a little on the heavy side for reading. I think this book is only for the most serious of students. It is chock full of technical descriptions, diagrams and some good black and white photos. I found myself skipping around trying to find something I might want to try on my horse but this book really isn't good for that. It really is more of a manual for the student of equine massage and physical therapy.

Slow going at first...
Technical jargon galore in the first few chapters but after that the rest is easier for us non-vets to understand.

wonderful detailed photos of horse anatomy!
I am a pre-vet student and I have learned so much from this book. This book shows and names everything inside of the horse. It is very graphic with photos of freshly dissected specimens that are clearly labeled. Pleasant and informative
Provides people new to breeding a good overall view of the process.It is easy to read and a good reference.This is not the highly technical manual that would turn away the amatuer.At the same time it lacks depth to be a truly serious resource.

The images are horrible!
This is an unfortunate effort in that the ultrasound images that ought to be the highlightof this text are just simply inadequate. Far to many of the ultrasound images are too bright and lack resolution. They do not clearly demonstrate the various lesions. In fact, anyone who uses this text to learn either what a diagnostic image is, or how to interpret an image will be sorely disappointed. The exceptions are the cardiology images and the reproductive images. The text is okay, but with the poor images I would look elsewhere. ... Read more
